Oh and while I'm in a giddy mood she's just won a gold and silver medal in her last Gymnastics competition, just had to get that off my very proud puffed up chest. Sorry thats got nothing to do with SATS but I just had to tell someone as its extra extra special for her and she works so hard against her "problems" {grin}

my dd got all 3's on her stats at the end of year 2 this year.

doobydoo · 19/07/2006 10:25

Cor well done..level 8!I am in awe.Ikwym about being chuffed especially if you feel you didn't get on well at school.I feel that about ds with the way he is..he seems good at everything, including sport which i was pants at.Well done again all you kids of mnetters!

RTKangaMummy · 19/07/2006 10:34

Kangaboy got level 5 in Maths, Science and English

Mind you I totally disagree with all the time wasted on all the bloomin' practise papers and practise tests and all the stress the whole class was put under.

I would prefer it if they went in on SATs week and sat down and did the papers and then it would NOT have wasted all his time during Year 6.

he was predicted level 5 and so why waste all those weeks and weeks practising for them if he was going to get a 5 anyway???????????

RTKangaMummy · 19/07/2006 10:35

Sorry that was a bit of a rant

This is my dd's first year of SATs. The school pulled us in to explain them. They said that in previous years the Gov had wanted the individual SAT results and weren't v interested in the teacher's assessments, but this year the Gov don't want the SAT results, only the teacher's assessments. No one seemed to know why they had to do SATs at all. I suggested a boycott, but no one went for it (just in case). Can anyone tell me what's actually going on with these things?

SecondhandRose · 24/07/2006 11:57

Just got back from holiday to find the school report on the doormat. We've been given Sats results for the first time ever with no explanation whatsoever of what they mean. I know my DD is bright but what does all 3's actually mean please? Have been googling Sats but not coming up with much.

fairyjay · 24/07/2006 13:09

Ds got an 8 in his Maths - the only SATS subject his school enters.

We are proud of him, but this is a boy who struggled to hit 'average' at the first set of SATS, and has never really been considered academic. He is surprising us all a little (although secretly I always knew that he was very special!!), but aren't we all very quick to label our kids, when their ability levels can fluctuate so much over the years.

My daughter's KS3 SATs reults were extremely good, and that's all I'll say on the matter. I find bragging parents a social no~no and it has to be said that I've been on the receiving end of quite a bit of bragging in my time LOL! Too bad on one occasion that the boasting mother had no idea that she was talking to the mother of the kid who came top in the year at the end of KS2!

One thing i do find regretful is the amount of time that schools take out to do revision for the SATs exams. My daughter was bored rigid in Year 6 while the teachers went back over all the work previoulsy done. There was also a great deal of negativity shown towards that entire Year 6 when SOME of the children got lower marks than expected in their mock SATs. The headteacher was extremely negative and unfocussed in targeting his critcisms and labelled the entire year group as "diabolical". My daughter ~ whose mock results were exactly as predicted ~ found the atmosphere horrible (as well as boring.

It was all too plain that the school lived and breathed by it SATs results and also carried the brunt of 'subsidising' the less~good schools in keeping up the LA's general results. The headteacher admitted as much to me.

Shame.

I find the idea that some parents will bribe their children to do better in the SATs apalling.

The SATs should be no big deal ~ day~to~day teacher assessment gives a far better picture.

Runnerbean · 24/08/2006 02:24

My dd also achieved 3C in all subjects end of year 2.

She just did an online IQ test for 8-14 year olds (she is only just 7)
and supposedly she has an IQ of 130. Is that good?

The school recognized she was G&T in nursery and moved her up early into reception. However, after two years of being bored and unchallenged in the classroom I have de-registered her from school and we have been home edding since July.

Judy1234 · 01/09/2006 23:16

Mine didn't do SATS as many private schools don't do them but IQ of 130 is good. The grammar school level used to be about 120 I think and that was what was thought you'd need for university.

helsy · 01/09/2006 23:34

My dd1 was assessed in class 1 (which she's just finished) and got mostly 3s and 2as - is that good, then? Just saw that some of you were saying 3 in KS1 is good and she'll be doing that next year.
Really, not false modesty, just don't know. Teacher says lots of things about her being "an excellent all-rounder", thinks she'll thrive without being singled out in any way, but I don't want her getting bored. Her reading age was 8 when she'd just turned 5.

WhereDidTheYearsGo · 19/09/2006 20:02

Can't resist a boast here - my ds's ENTRE YEAR got level 8 in Maths!!!! (year 9)

rustybear · 19/09/2006 20:48

Oh well, if we're bragging about schools - you used to be able to get an EP (exceptional performance) in KS3 SATs - the year my DS did it , there were 150 in the entire country - and his school got 35 of them. Next yesr they scrapped it.

cryptmonkey · 18/10/2006 10:24

Runnerbean, where can you do the online test for 8-14 yo?
