Anyone with underactive thyroid?

Been on thyroxine for underactive thyroid for just over a year and medication is getting me so stressed... levels up and down until they stayed on 200mcg. Memory is terrible and I forget to take the tablets, and to go back to the docs for more. Tablets make my heart beat really loudly which worries me, and make it extremely difficult to get more than an hour or twos sleep a night, literally lying awake for about 5 hours. When I don't take the tablets I feel tired/withdrawn/unable to concentrate on anything and stress makes everything ten times worse, so always trying not to get stressed... weight is increasing or staying the same whatever. I've talked to my doctor and had my tablets reduced 6 mth ago but he says there's nothing more he can do.

Seriously considering trying something like Alvidar or Thyax, has anyone tried these?

I'm hypothyroid and take 100mcg thyroxine and 0.025mcg of cynomel (T3). I take them as soon as I wake up, before I go down stairs. I thought it was better to take them on an empty stomach. Maybe see if you can drop your thyroxine dosage and add in the T3. I went on T3 as well because thyroxine itself didn't help and I just felt exhausted but all blood tests were normal. Not all GP's like prescribing it, my sisters prof refuses to give it to her.

Mountain girl I tried to convince my gp to start me on the t3 and thyroxine and was told it was only available in america! Due another blood test in three weeks so will see gp after results are back, I feel crap all the time and so tired I am unable to sleep and then feel worse. I take 100mg one day and 125 the next, was on 125 per day but had palpitations so have lowered dose and feel even worse, tired fat and hair falling out but I am normal! After 13 years of feeling this bad maybe they will tahe pity on me and try t3

Prettypurpledaisy, I do hope you get the correct treatment, keep asking for it and tell the misinformed that T3 is available in the UK. Otherwise ask your GP to put you on a natural thyroid extract, I think you can get that in the UK, I can't get it over here in France though.
