i slipped while getting out of the bath, hit my right hand side approx where ribs are on the side of the bath - not too painful.

But, i cracked my head on the sink, just above my eye, which has turned black already and is rapidly swelling and tingling. I feel a little sick, but thought if it was concussion that i would have to actually be sick??

I am here on my own, sitting crying and shaking - what is best to do? (please be gentle, i am in a bit of a state)

not bleeding, just plenty swelling. Have got an ice pack on the moment - am hyperventilating now (am an anxious person anyway) It just where my eyebrow is.

(am trying to calm to think rationally)

Can you ring NHS direct Jet? did you loose consciousness at all? they will assess you, and hopefully tell you all is fine as you are conscious and not bleeding

However they will tell you what signs to look for if you need to go to hospital, if you suddenly start feeling sick, double vision etc

Your ex is a twat, your health is more important than his annoyance at you not being in when he arrives, just text him and tell him you need to go and get checked out

Lizzylou · 24/01/2010 15:32

Aww Jet, I think I agree with Shiney, you've given yourself a shock, of course you feel upset and shaky.

As Vinny says, ring NHS Direct and see what they say.

Don't panic, if you have to go to hospital, you have to. Your ex will just have to wear that I'm afraid.

Flightattendant · 24/01/2010 15:41

I would advocate getting some clothes on first in this situation then reassess.

How far is it to hospital? You need to call your children's father now, to avoid showdown later, and hopefully he can keep them a bit longer. Otherwise once he has already left you might not get him.
Then ring a taxi to A&E.
Shouldn't bee too full on a sunday pm. Hope you are Ok x

Flightattendant · 24/01/2010 15:42

Oh dear this was half an hour ago, how are you jet?

jetcatisfrozen · 24/01/2010 15:45

i rang nhs direct, they said to take a couple of paracetamol and to sit quietly. I hvae got just over an hour before the girls come back, so will try an pull myself together before then.

my head is still tingling, and is feeling very heavy, and still feeling sick, but nhs nurse said she didnt think i had fractured anything - no fluids from ears or anything.

jetcatisfrozen · 24/01/2010 16:01

thanks guys, am beginning to calm a little. I now feel like i need to actually be sick to get rid of the feeling sick if that makes sense!

SOrry for being a bit of a drama queen

You need to go to A&E.

I bashed my head. NHS Direct said I was fine.

Ended up at hospital later with concussion and whip lash.

Glad you are feeling calmer jet. When the DC's come back, get junior to look after mini for a bit and just have a picnic tea or something that junior can get ready?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 24/01/2010 17:04

the same thing happened to me as FAB and i felt just like you, i would get seen.

well, i was sick, but feel a lot better for it. Head is still banging, but nausea and light headedness has gone.

Am under strict instructions to ring NHS direct back if anything changes, but i think if i did get worse i would simply just ring 999 if it was the middle of the night. Not sure what i would do with the kids, so am hoping that wont happen

The shock has completely gone now, so i am hoping that is a good sign.

Fab, hope you are ok now - and i am listening to what you say i promise, and if i do start to feel worse again, i will think of you and ring 999 immediately

being sick after a head injury is supposed to be one of the things that means you need to be checked out, AFAIK.
