I got news this morning that one of my friends died yesterday. She was in her very early 30's, two young children and everything to live for. Despite a mastectomy a couple of years ago, the cancer spread and she is gone. I can't tell you how dreadful I feel.

It is so important that we check our breasts regularly. It takes a few minutes and could save your life.
One of my best friends had a message just like this one, but it was face to face and by her boyfriends exgf who also had just had a mastectomy because of breast cancer. This message from such an unlikely messenger almost certainly saved my best friends life.

Pass the message on please ladies. Make sure your friends and family are nudged into remembering to check.

Hola, hope alls well! havent been on mumsnet for a little while. Just wanted to check in and see how everyone is xxx

smee · 16/07/2010 12:55

Thanks Beaaware, haven't heard of that one. Will look it up on Amazon and see what people say about it. Though as you mentioned books for anyone diagnosed, I've found 'The Breast Cancer Survival Manual' really helpful. Terrible title imo, but it's v. good on medical facts and what questions to ask/ treatment options. American but most of it is applicable to UK too.

I've been bag making (well a few) and have quite a few to make. I have an order for two in Lanzarote!!! chuffed to bits, I'm going international Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/10/2010 07:15

hey that's fab -well done - shipping abroad !!

Have been v busy drawing & painting- pictures and cards and a book a few months ago.
Am off to the breast clinic for my 6 month check up next week.

SoloBlackWidowSpidersWebSite · 26/10/2010 11:50

Hope that goes well.
My friend has just had her first mammogram after her op 12 months ago. All clear thankfully, but the Tamoxifen caused her some problems which have now been removed surgically and she feels great! thankfully :)
She's having some reconstruction work done next month as she's a bit lopsided and her nipple isn't right. After that, hopefully there'll just be the yearly mammograms.

Can't seem to grab anyone's attention to this thread this time...Hmm

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/10/2010 15:36

ah,well we'll just keep posting ! Glad things are looking up for your friend and hope her reconstruction goes well. I will put up with the bit of wonkiness - I have most of my breast anyway, just a bit crooked Grin

SoloBlackWidowSpidersWebSite · 26/10/2010 21:48

Yes, hers is too, but it's the nipple she's got problems with; difficult to clean in the unnatural groove she's been left with. I don't think she'll be left with even cup sizes afterwards, but she is happy with that. I keep telling her, they're her victory scars.
