I got news this morning that one of my friends died yesterday. She was in her very early 30's, two young children and everything to live for. Despite a mastectomy a couple of years ago, the cancer spread and she is gone. I can't tell you how dreadful I feel.

It is so important that we check our breasts regularly. It takes a few minutes and could save your life.
One of my best friends had a message just like this one, but it was face to face and by her boyfriends exgf who also had just had a mastectomy because of breast cancer. This message from such an unlikely messenger almost certainly saved my best friends life.

Pass the message on please ladies. Make sure your friends and family are nudged into remembering to check.

hot !! don't know whether tamoxifen makes it worse
Also have cracked rib from falling over the weekend before last (I was organising my Strawberry tea for Breast Cancer Care and getting in a flap) - much better today, was really painful since about half way through last week...eeeee

ifancyashandy · 29/06/2010 22:02

It most certainly is HOT! But I'm thinking this is better than cold and windy!

Oooh - cracked rip - that sounds nasty! Can you take arnica along with tamoxifen? It helps reduce bruising. Or you can get it as a cream to apply on top but don't think that works as well.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/06/2010 07:25

I used arnica gel and then put on some of dh's nice massage oil which he uses on his knee - smells nice, anyway ! But really, it's beginning to feel a lot less ouchy !

I had a bit of a headache after my celebratory few glasses but it was worth it. How is the cracked rib Mary?
My boob is incredibly sore still, car journeys are almost unbearable due to the jiggling about even if I hold my boob still with both hands. I hold as much as I can but I still can't stop the wobbles. On Saturday I went out for my first proper walk and noticed things were more sore on the drive home afterwards. By Sunday morning it was so sore I actually cried like a big girl's blouse. Did nothing all day Sunday and by the evening things were more bearable. Other people I have spoken to seem to be out and about by now (3 weeks after two lumps removed.) I am still so sore I would not get into a car at the moment. My boobs are very large (I am only 5'1" so they are completely out of proportion to the rest of me)- do you think this might be the problem? One of the lumps was a good 6" into my breast hence needing a drain in place afterwards. I have to go back in at the end of July and at this rate I won't have recovered from the first surgery! I thought I would be back at work by now. I am hoping one of you will have some advice for me please or maybe will know someone with a simliar experience?

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/07/2010 22:27

pegotty - sorry to hear you are so sore- why not whisk to the tamoxifen thread - am sure you'll get some advice there..will find the link

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/07/2010 22:28

here

ifancyashandy · 05/07/2010 22:56

Ah, Pegotty, so sorry to hear you're so sore. Can you call your nurse and ask if they can suggest / give you anything?

How's your rib MAS?

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/07/2010 07:25

hello ifancy - thanks for asking - they are very much better- a bit stiff today as i was lying on that side

smee · 06/07/2010 13:23

peggoty, are you wearing a bra at all? If so, have you tried sports bras? That's what was recommended to me, as they support you best. Also, are you taking pain killers? Maybe ibuprofen would be a help (ie anti-inflammatory). I'd say call your Nurse though asap, as they should have some good ideas. sounds to me as though you're badly bruised still. Poor you though.

ifancyashandy · 06/07/2010 20:50

Ooh. Ouch! Nick some more of DH's special cream!

I got my appoinment for my excision biopsy today - 29th of this month. I'm amazed (and delighted) that it's come through so quickly when we pretty much know it's benign.

I too shall be requiring a sports bra I'm thinking! Opinion - will I be able to lift my arms over my head (so can wear a crop top sports bra) or should I get a fastening one?

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/07/2010 22:43

I would think you'd be able to lift your arms ok,but a kerfuffle to put a pull on crop top thing on,so front fastening prob. best. It'll be a relief to just get it done I'm sure ifancy.

solo · 07/07/2010 00:38

Just popping in to say hello to you all and hope you are all ok...and not breaking bones!!!!!!! MAS you daft woman! are you sure you weren't on the plonk?!

Beaaware · 09/07/2010 09:48

Going for my follow up DITI shortly, which is "Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging", it is a 15 minute non invasive test which offers the opportuntiy of early detection of breast disease, has anyone else had this, would be interested to know what they thought of it.

smee · 09/07/2010 10:08

Never even heard of it Beawware. Let us know how it goes.

Beaaware · 09/07/2010 11:07

silentcatastrophe · 13/07/2010 11:32

I have no nipple on my reconstructed side, so have taken to wearing nipple tassles. Now, who's to know?!

Beaaware · 13/07/2010 13:37

hi smee,
it's this week, and the results take about a week to come through, they are sent to the US for specialists to look at, will let u know the outcome.

ifancyashandy · 13/07/2010 16:11

Ah but Silent, can you twirl them?!

smee · 13/07/2010 17:11

Beaaware, how very international of your breasts. How interesting though.

ifancy, I was going to ask that! How are you?

Beaaware · 15/07/2010 22:53

I noticed a book in the DITI clinic today which was titled "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer" by Dr.John.R.Lee, David Zava & Virginia Hopkins, did'nt get time to read it, but may be of interest to anyone on this thread.
