I got news this morning that one of my friends died yesterday. She was in her very early 30's, two young children and everything to live for. Despite a mastectomy a couple of years ago, the cancer spread and she is gone. I can't tell you how dreadful I feel.

It is so important that we check our breasts regularly. It takes a few minutes and could save your life.
One of my best friends had a message just like this one, but it was face to face and by her boyfriends exgf who also had just had a mastectomy because of breast cancer. This message from such an unlikely messenger almost certainly saved my best friends life.

Pass the message on please ladies. Make sure your friends and family are nudged into remembering to check.

will be thinking of you with fingers crossed

This is turning in to a fiasco! I have now had Sundays appointment cancelled because the locum was being flown in from England and they now can't get him/her on a flight because of the volcanic ash!

If this wasn't so serious it would be laughable!

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/04/2010 11:23

no !!! oh Amapoleon what a palaver you're having to go through :-(

Amapoleon · 16/04/2010 11:44

They are looking in to having it done in Spain now, should know by this afternoon.

My aunt in the UK who found her lump after me has had all the tests been diagnosed, had a lumpectomy and has now started radiotherapy. I'm glad for her but this just worries me more.

Amapoleon · 16/04/2010 18:43

I have now got an appointment for Tuesday in Spain, so not so bad. Lets hope the surgeon at my hospital lives locally or lord knows when my op will be, hahaha.

I hope you don't mind me waffling on , on this thread. I haven't told many people in RL so it's good to have a moan

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/04/2010 19:22

feel free to moan or grumble here Amapoleon- and will be thinking of you on Tuesday

Amapoleon · 19/04/2010 21:47

Hola, have my biopsy tomorrow, looking forward to it in a strange kind of way. I just want to get out of limbo really.

I have been told I have to fast for 6 hours before, I have never heard of this, except before operations. Is this the case in the UK too?

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/04/2010 07:14

no fasting before biopsy here !
Am thinking of you - am also having minor op today -in and hour and a half in fact- small lump on head, nothing serious or worrying but am horribly wimpy about these things !

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/04/2010 09:33

all done - I wasn't too wibbly. Daren't investigate it though.
Lots of luck Amapoleon.

Amapoleon · 20/04/2010 20:23

Glad your op went well!

Well if I hadn't been on mumsnet for so long, you ,would think I was a troll if you read my on going saga.

Got to the hospital, had another mammogram and ultrasound to decide which biopsy he was going to do. Only to be told that I now have an infection and they can't see the lump properly

I had the other lump drained, hmm nice and sent off for analysis, should take about a week. I then had to go to Gibraltar to give them the Spanish report and they are not happy, so they are sending me for an MRI. Lord knows what that entails.

You've guessed it, the mri can only be done in Spain. So another round trip of 3 hours to look forward to, hahaha.

So I still don't know what is the matter with me but I am calm!

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/04/2010 21:14

blimey - you poor girl

solo · 20/04/2010 23:56

Sorry to hear all the problems Amapoleon...keep positive though

silentcatastrophe · 21/04/2010 10:58

I had an MRI last October. Lots of chunking and whirring, and lying very still for a long time. I think mine took about 45 mins. I go to the hospital next week to get the results. I have been hasled by my nurse, and my reconstructed side isn't all that comfortable. Buger bugger bugger. I am quite frightened. Well done Amapoleon for keeping calm! I have also been discharged from the stupid hospital because I called them to let them know that our car had broken down and I wouldn't be able to make my appointment. They are sooooooo stupid sometimes. Bloody hell.

Amapoleon · 21/04/2010 15:54

Oh blimey, so it's not just me then!
That's a long wait for results! Will be keeping everything crossed for you.

solo · 21/04/2010 23:19

Bump

Amapoleon · 22/04/2010 15:21

I've got my appointment through for my mri, It's on Tuesday. I'm glad it's come but I am a bit claustrophobic, so I hope I don't freak out.

silentcatastrophe · 22/04/2010 17:44

I get my results on Tuesday. It's not that bad in the tube. Try to go to sleep and relax! It's all the crashing and banging that it does!

Amapoleon · 23/04/2010 15:20

Latest twist! My MRI has been postponed because of the infection. 3 more blooming weeks!

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/04/2010 15:45

crikey ! am so sorry this is dragging on.
I think I saw you on the BCC forums - I am chipper on there, but don't post much.

Amapoleon · 23/04/2010 16:50

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/04/2010 17:15

Amapoleon · 23/04/2010 17:46
