Hayfever - OK so who's really suffering?

Cause I know I am.

I'm taking Zirtek, Beconase (sp?) and eyedrops and still feel crap basically. Anyone come accross a miracle cure yet?

And is it just me or do you have a nose full of horrible bogies that cling to the lining of your nose? Sorry if TMI!!

My dd2, aged 13, is suffering terribly so I have every sympathy with you. She is on the strongest you can get from Doctors and has even had a course of steroids but nothing seems to work. Any tips for eyes as that is the worst part for her.

My ds2 (13)is bad too, particularly his eyes. And in the night he had a huge nose bleed as a result of all the sneezing and blowing he's doing.

Cant someone start a campaign to make the owners of privet hedges either cut them or get rid of the damn things?

me. my eyes are streaming and i feel i cant see throughthem properly..people must think i`m crying all the time because the tears are literally rolling down my face!! the worse thing is that my hay fever is usually gone by now as i get mine when the leaves and blossom are coming out on the trees only but it must a be bad one this year as it seems to be getting worse..dammit!!

I have it too, but not that bad this year

shut your windows after 6pm
use a nasal spray and eye drops
dont scratch your eyes or blow your nose

I mean dont BLOW YOUR NOSE it makes it much worse, try to limit it as much as possible

and DONT SCRATCH YOUR EYES t

this is how I limit mine, plus limit outdoor time, but its the windows shut after 6pm that helps the most

How does blowing your nose make it worse? I thoyught it would get rid of all the pollen.

Bambi, same for me, I think it's because the spring months were so wet, the pollen from the trees didn't come out as much IYSWIM.

Has anyone tried the local honey thing?

ds1, ds2 and dp are all suffering. Me, i can't get any sleep for the endless requests for drinks, tissues, cold cloths...

This is the worst year i've ever had it... and i stupidly thought that by moving to the coast, it would ease my symptoms.
I have the itchy streaming eyes, the constantly snotty nose and the sneezing. But for me, the worst thing is the tickle right at the back of my mouth!! I can tickle it with my tongue which kind of helps but gargling is the only cure!
Does anyone else get this tickle, as i've only ever heard my brother complain of it?!

My DH wakes up sneezing and goes to bed the same. He seems really bad with it this year .
I don't suffer too much - its more cut flowers which starts me off!
Just waitng to see if it has any affect on DS. Can you get hay fever at 4 months old????

womba, I get that. I actually got a straw last night and sharpened the edge so I could put it down my throat and scratch the annoying itch (I know, probably not medically a good thing to do!). That 'itch' also spreads so that it itches at the back of my throat and then deep in my ear - obviously I guess, along all the nasal/ear/throat passages!

pleaserewind, did you see gloworm's message on one of the other threads? The stuff she recommends is something called bioforce luffa (from health shops)

My DD is 6 and suffering badly (for the first time this year). I'm giving her piriton syrup and eye drops for hayfever which do help a lot. She seems worse at school and better at weekends so I guess there is some tree there that is triggering it. They do take care of her though - note in her book bag tonight that the nurse saw her at lunchtime and gave her cold wet towels for her eyes (about all they can do).

Womba - i get the itchy palette thing too, and it goes deep into my ear too.

Fio2 - it's IMPOSSIBLE NOT to blow my nose.

I find that with double medication - beconase nasal spray and clarityn then I'm okay mostly.

after a very delayed start to my hayfever its now on with full aggression despite taking tabs my eyes are still itchy so am off today to buy drops.

agree with the itchy palette it's awful, nobody I know actually gets it. I feel quite down by the end of the summer, I know there could be a lot worse things out there but hayfever really makes you feel miserable [sad}

i get itchy palette too and the horrid itching deep inside my ears. Also need an inhaler as I sound like bagpipes

GIRLS,GIRLS, DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. TRY THE VASELINE ON THE INSIDE OF YOUR NOSTRILS TRICK. IT WORKS FOR ME. NEEDS REAPPLYING IF YOU HAVE A GOOD BLOW. TRY IT!

Suffering badly here. Thought I'd outgrown it as last year I was fine but this year... god it's bad. My poor ds1 (13) is suffering terribly. His eyes, nose etc even had a nosebleed in the night. So far the cheapy pills are good (stops sneezes and eye itches) but nothing's been working on the itchy nose. Drives me nuts!

Just a tip for those of you that buy clarityn, zirtek etc:

I have found that the cheap Galpharm brand is EXACTLY the same - check the ingredients of the brand you buy and save yourself a fortune. They are called Hayfever and Allergy Relief, one in the blue box and one in green. They are 89p - available in Boots (bottom shelf, hidden away so you buy the expensive one!), Superdrug, Savers chemists, possibly other chemists too. My dad and my DH both use them.

Well it does seem to help. Eyes nose and throat all connected. The less pollen you breath up yer hooter the better you will be. I am in our homeoffice now (up the garden) with door open with nowt more than some vaseline up me snoz. (oh I am dressed)Havent sneezed yet, no itchy pallet at the mo and eyes seem watery but NOT itchy.
