Covered in about 30+ insect bites since Friday & have severe aches & pains in whole body

Could this be related or do I have some strange virus? I also have a headache and feel nauseous, but dont have a cold or cough. All I could do yesterday was sleep on and off all day. Some of the discomfort was alleviated by nurofen and an anti histamine.

daft question alert. Have you actually been bitten by insects. i.e. did you think you had been bitten at the time or are you assuming that's what they are?

Are the bites going down or are any of them getting worse (red area getting bigger)

melsy · 15/11/2009 10:51

Well Im nt sure , I just noticed on Friday I had these small red round lumps on my elbows all down my legs and buttock. They are getting more red and some have spread together a bit. Are you thinking boils?

Nice convo lol

Ive now got a temp of 37.5

melsy · 15/11/2009 10:52

even my eye balls hurt!

nellie12 · 15/11/2009 10:57

no wasn't thinking boils. (just what you want on a sunday morning)

It sounds viral. Your temp doesn't sound bad at the moment but you would be justified ringing the out of hours service. dont bother with nhs direct they'll just tell you to see your gp.

Hope you're better soon. It sounds horrible.

melsy · 15/11/2009 11:00

They are very itchy and sore, I can even put my elbows down.

Yes was wondering wether I should call barndoc. Could it be SF?? oohh gawd!

OP posts:
nellie12 · 15/11/2009 11:07

I haven't seen it listed as symptoms of sf. So probably not. Well at least you wont have to take tamiflu

melsy · 15/11/2009 11:13

I suppose Ive just linked it to SF as I have awful aches and pains through my body.

OP posts:
itsmeolord · 15/11/2009 11:14

Shingles?

displayuntilbestbefore · 15/11/2009 11:15

whatever it's linked to, I really would get yourself checked out - sounds viral, and nasty! Rather than turn up at the out of hours in case you're contagious, call out of hours to speak to a doctor first - don't delay! Hope you get it sorted.

nellie12 · 15/11/2009 11:15

no thats infection/ viral but without being able to see the rash I wouldn't know. If its infection gp will give ab's if viral it may just be a case of continue and take piriton or may give something else. As I say without seeing it its impossible to tell.

melsy · 15/11/2009 11:51

have called barndoc , theyve said to go to A&E. Off there now , oh the joy!

OP posts:
displayuntilbestbefore · 15/11/2009 20:23

melsy - how are you? Did you get seen at A&E?
Hope you're sorted and feeling better.....

melsy · 15/11/2009 21:47

Ive only just been home the last 20mins.

After 4 docs in A&E (the 1st 3 didnt know what I had at all), the final one diagnosed it as Erythema Nodosum & linked it all to problems Ive been having in my bowels!

Have been told to go back to gp and get a quick referral to a gastroenterologist & a dermatologists to get to the bottom (pardon the pun), of my underlying bowel problems.

So even though Ive spent a long old 8hrs there, I now have a name and a link to whats been going on with me.

Im off to bed now , as dh is telling me off for not looking after myself

OP posts:
largeginandtonic · 15/11/2009 21:52

Isi t all down one side of your body?

It sounds like classic shingles to me!

Surely the docs would have realised that though...

nellie12 · 15/11/2009 22:02

oh thats a new one. glad you're getting sorted out.

displayuntilbestbefore · 15/11/2009 23:24

melsy - glad you got seen - good luck with the referral!

melsy · 16/11/2009 08:39

I never new something like this could be so painful, Ive even got them in my mouth and under my big toe! I feel like an old women , I can hardly move. The one pain killer that helped is nurofen , but as the condition is secondary to bowel problems , Ive been advised not to take it!

This website was quite informative lastnight for the condition.

At least its something I may be covered by on insurance! Nothing else is since having children!

I just want to sleep all the time , but I have to get on the phone today and do some research to get some specialist appointments.

Thinking back I think I may have had these before,(thinking they were bad bites on holiday), but nowere near as pronounced as this weekend. Theyre now covering most of my body except chest and torso.

OP posts:
alypaly · 16/11/2009 11:17

i had this years ago and the related bowel disorders and a really good consultant did so manty tests as he was quite worried. He did one for sarcoidosis which has very similar symptoms. He was brilliant as he looked at hte worst scenario first and worked backwards...cant thank him enough for my full MOT.

melsy · 16/11/2009 11:20

are you ok now alypaly? IVe only just heard of sarcoidosis on here today looking up my skin thing

OP posts:
melsy · 16/11/2009 11:30

I dare'nt look up sarcoidosis , other wise will start worrying!

Ive found a gastroenterologist today and have an emergency appointment with them tonight at a local hospital. Im trying not to think to much about the tests they might want to carry out.

OP posts:
alypaly · 16/11/2009 11:33

Yes im fine now...thanks.
Mine eventually ended up as chronic parvo virus which i contracted from DS2( slapped cheek syndrome) but didnt know at the time. Just kept geting really painful abdomen which felt really solid on right side, itchy skin, rashes on neck and face, flushing, itchy scalp, sore, hot joints on hands feet and knees, felt like death warmed up. Always tired, depressed, no appetite, weepy.
Ended up with some pretty heavy treatment but thankfully ....all gone .....i hope. They did say it might come back but at least i know the treatment works.

alypaly · 16/11/2009 11:35

try not to worry yourself about sarcoidosis ,but my consultant wanted to check for that first as it is very serious and life threatening and he really believed i had it. As it was so serious ,he wanted to rule it out first and then work back to the less frightening ones. I hope you havent got e.n.
