Tiny lump on my cervix

So i was having a good feel about at the position of my cervix today....as you do and i can feel a little lump next to the opening. I don't remember it being there when i have felt before but it has been a few months. I had an erpc a couple of months ago so i was wondering whether it could be a bit of damage caused by that. Instincts tell me it's nothing to worry about but just wondered whether anyone has had anything similar or knows what it might be. Can just imagine having that conversation with my gp !!!

I believe it is quite common to have harmless polyps on the cervix, however if you are concerned then you should go and have it checked out.

I always remember Jackie magazine saying that it's just like a mechanic looking under the bonnet of a car. I'm sure your doc has seen a thousand fanjoes.

Hi... I occasionally get a lump too - read somewhere they are called nabothian cysts and are harmless. Mine was checked out when I had a smear test last week and all seemed fine according to the nurse. May be worth checking out to be on the safe side but sure it is nothing to worry about....

i found a group of lumps in my vagina (cant beleive i just typed the V word!) about a fingers depth in, was V worried - went to the doc who checked them out for me - she said they were fluid retention cysts and go by themselves, they went. I did feel one on my cervix once, felt the same as the others so didnt bother doc - it went. I would be inclined to get it checked though - only because it would play on my mind if i didnt

I had one of these too and was told about it at my smear test....I promptly went home to feel it and after a bit of fiddling I too could feel it..I was not at all worried as doc told me it was a harmless nabothian cyst...and were quite common. When I went to have my coil fitted the consultant thought she would remove it as she thought it could be a polyp..turned out it was a fluid filled cyst and she popped it when trying to remove it.... she sent the "bits" for analysis...all fine and nothing to worry about..but has made me have a scout around down there when I am feeling for my threads. One thing I do remember them telling me was not to think just because it is my vagina or cervix that it is not prone to spots and blemishes like any other area of my face, back legs etc etc...Reassured me that did.

Thanks everyone - i'll keep an eye on it, well not literally that would be an achievement!! I'll ge it checked out if it changes or doesn't go away in a couple of weeks.

sounds like a polyp - i had these

when you have sex does it/you bleed?

i would go and get it checked out - prob nothing but you never know

How embarrassing! I was having a check in the shower during a through wash (as you do)and found a lump near the opening of my cervix - I immediately started funeral plans and how I was going to announce it (facebook was my method of choice).

I called my husband from the car, as he was at work when I was in the shower, who asked if that is what I had been doing whilst sitting in the carpark! I also called my Mum and my sister who laughed and asked how I knew there was a lump there - cringe!

After promptly making a Dr's appointment, the be bemused GP also quizzically asked just how I had managed to find a lump there - I wish I had thought faster on my feet and told her I was looking for gold as I was really beginning to feel like a freak at this point. She then goes on to say that she can not feel anything - damn! And that cervix's are generally lumpy.

Memorial service plans on hold, I call my mum and sister to be greeted with shrieks of laughter and comments of "well I don't wash that thoroughly!" Dirty buggers is all I can say.

So I am very glad that when I googled 'cervical lump' I came across this discussion which re assured me that I am not the only cervix fondling freak around!

I know this thread is old but I can assure you that you are not the only freak!

I sometimes get a bit achey down below and have a little check about (its good to be familiar with your own body). I found 1 bigger lump and 2 smaller lumps that were not there before.

I had the same kind of comment from my doctor as to how I found it and she said that she couldn't find it either and asked if I could see if I could find it at that time (it then went beyond weird at this stage) .

Anyway the outcome was that she said I should have a smear test (I seem to have every 2 years because of my concerns). Booking that in this week so fingers crossed everything is ok.

I had a feel around last night again and my cervix seemed lower than usual and the bigger lump seemed to be bigger than last week. I am not sure whether this is to do with the stage you are in in your cycle. Will report back with any findings.

Good to know I am not the only one that gets worried!!

hi there just found your thread after finding a lump on my cervix. had a smear about 1 month ago and all normal kind of thought i would wait and see if went away.......is this sticking my head in the sand ????

@mooeyspadooey... wahahaha!!! I had to really have a good giggle at your post. I too found a lump tonight, tiny as it is - by the opening of my cervix. For many years it has been a habit to wash that far up. I do it every single day when I bathe. So, noticing this lump has freaked me out as 2 years ago I had a colposcopy due to stage 2 HPV. Naturally I too have been planning my funeral and Facebook goodbyes to all my friends, but after reading this I feel slightly better. Like there is at least a glimmer of hope that it's not terminal cancer and I'm going to kick the bucket in 3 months time. By the way, I screamed for my husband to come and feel it too, which he could, but admit he looked at me oddly, like I was asking him to fly to the moon or something. It's just a cervix for God's sake! Anyway, I am still going to my gynoncologist to have this checked out to set my mind at ease or send me fleeing to the nearest funeral parlour, and blow him if he thinks I'm weird for cleaning up by my cervix. I told my mom and at least she didn't think I was odd for checking up there. I think it's important for us to know our bodies this well, it's the only body we have and we need to take good care of it. If I could scrounge around in my gut and have a feelsy of my innards you're dang straight I would too. Thanks for the info ladies, at least now I can sleep a teensy bit easier tonight.

Just a note to add to this, nothing wrong with examining your cervix - probably a good idea, we should all get to know our bodies so we can be aware of changes.

But it's not a good idea to be using soap and washing that far up, it can lead to irritation of the mucus membrane and infection, you only need to use water, and you only need to wash the outside parts - vulva, labia, with water. It's a self cleaning body part and doesn't need cleaning out.

CF- it is not a good idea to wash your vagina. It is self-cleansing- and any attempts to clean it will make you more likely to develop infections or irritations, like thrush etc.

washing your vulva- the external bits- is all that is necessary and even then you should avoid soap and just use warm water.

Okay, so relieved to find this thread! Just found a large lump at the opening of my cervix. Was just at the doc for my annual, so I'm sure I'll find out if there's an issue, but after a quick dial (and hang up) to one of my best friends, I found this thread and feel much better about not running in a panic frenzy to my friends! :-)

My doc told me last week that the cervix drops during our period, and I read on wikipedia that it opens a little, so I'm guessing I'm thinking that's just an indicator for me... In any case, thanks for being brave to post about having a feel about your cervixes. Very helpful!

So, I'm not a parent. I'm new to the forum, and I know this is a place for moms and such but my situation is a little different.
I'm 20, and I have a mirena iud in for bout a year now.
Just the other day, I was checking the strings and felt a ball like thing next to my opening up there. I've never felt it before and I'm kinda worried.
Sadly I don't have health insurance and I've just moved to a new town so I don't have a doctor at all, my last womans doctor moved away and her office closed so now I'm kinda outta luck.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I am not a parent, but I found this thread and wanted to comment. I have always washed myself inside, every day when I bathe. About a month ago I found a tiny lump just to the left of the hole in my cervix. I went for a smear test with the nurse. She couldn't find anything and the smear test came back negative, but I was still concerned, so I booked to see my doctor. He gave me an internal and looked inside me with a transparent speclum. Both of them asked how I found the lump and I told them, 'I wash up there'. I didn't feel embarrassed telling them, I was just surprised at their surprise. I cannot imagine not washing up there. Anyway, the doctor couldn't see or feel the said lump. But I could, so I asked for an ultrasound scan. Scan found nothing to be worried about but I'm still not completely satisfied...I am not paranoid but remember Jade Goody? I have now requested an appointment with a gynae, but firstly, they have booked me in with another doctor at the surgery who is very experienced with internals, to see if she can find the lump. I must say I think my GP's surgery is very professional and I am very happy at the trouble they have gone to, to put my mind at rest. After reading about others on this page I actually feel less anxious and hopefully will find out it's just a small cyst, and that I will live.

So relieved to have found this thread, found a lump and was so scared made an appointment straight away to have a smear test which is long overdue, The posts have stopped me from being in a complete state of hysterical panic.

I know that this subject thread is old, but I had to thank you all for your honesty in your posts. Because it is normal to have "a feel" and to have the bumps on your cervix. I first noticed them when I was 20 and went to and STD clinic in panic. The doctor was really great and said he would remove it if I wished but told me that they were completely natural and that they would come back now and again and not to worry. Remembering his advice made me think to post this, the doctor was right as they have come and gone and because tonight, during "a feel" (lol) another little bubble had appeared right at the neck of the cervix. I was a bit worried then found this sight and it all fit into place. Am I still worried.......Nope. x

I had 3 appear this year. Had cervical erosion too so not sure if they're related. Gynae got rid of them last week when she did a cauterization and biopsy.

Hi Girls!

I found a bump on my cervix when I was washing inside and started to worry about it a lot. It feels like a hard pea. So I went to my GP and she told me that it is a cyst. As I looked really worried, she referred me to a gynaecologist for a reassurance. The gynaecologist confirmed that this bump is just a nabothian cyst. He said me that there is no need to remove it as it is harmless.
So please don't worry much if you found a bump on your cervix. Check it with your GP or Gynae for a peace of mind. I am sure it is just a cyst just like mine. They are really common and don't cause any problems :)

Well I found this thread after doing a Google search as you do for lumps on cervix.

I too have found one but it's about the size of a large grape maybe even strawberry size
My cervix is behind the lump and I have to reach behind it to feel the threads of my coil.

I think need to get it checked by the Dr but how do you open that conversation "hi yeah so I was ha ing a hey diddle as you do and noticed this lump about half a finger lengthback. While I was there thought I'd check for my coil threads as well they are up behind the llumpoh yeah I also bleed during and after sex and my current period has been going on for just over 3 weeks now. So doc what do you think?"

I did ring my mum about it she said go Dr but I don't think I'd be able to look my Dr in the face .

At least read I g this I don't feel so alone

Mrs5 yes you can face the doc. After all it has got to be better than me. In my early 20s at my smear (possibly my first one) I mentioned to the nurse that I could feel a lump 'up there' (this had been worrying me for quite some time).

Nurse told me..... "that's your cervix"

Oh. I had no idea. Blush
