I don't know how much of it I can take. My lovely, lovely, Dad passed away on 6th February and we laid him to rest on Monday.

Now, my poor Mum, who is already in bad health, is very, very, poorly and they may admit her to Intensive Care tonight.

I just want my Mum to be well.

I've had enough.

You poor thing

I dont know what to say but I could'nt let this go unanswered

What seems to be the problem with your mum?

Have you got a friend or relly to talk to?

scrooged · 18/02/2009 20:59

All I can do is send you the biggest hug I have ever given. We are never sent more then we can handle, even if we think we can't cope. Just know that there are people around you that can help you and support you and that you are not, nor ever will be, alone.

Take care pet, remember that you are not alone through this.

spicemonster · 18/02/2009 20:59

Oh I am really sorry to hear that. Have you got anyone to give you a hug?

Oh no , how truly awful for you. Sending you much love and strength xx

LilRedWG · 18/02/2009 21:10

Thanks guys. DH is here and has arranged for MIL to have DD tomorrow.

Basically, Mum has been ill since having most of her small intestine removed at the end of August. She has had very bad odema, chronic diahrria (sp ), malnutrition and also has terrible arthritis. As a result she has been in hospital for the past month. She came home for the weekend and was a little forgetful, but we all put it down to stress/grief.

Today she became very vague/confused and they discovered that the oxygen they were giving her to help with a chest infection was actually making her worse. They have diagnosed Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with CO2 retention, which means that whilst her O2 levels are low any effort to use oxygen to raise them also raises her CO2 levels, causing confusion etc.

They've just put her back on the oxygen and will be checking her CO2 levels every hour - if she doesn't improve it'll be intensive care.

My Mum doesn't deserve this, especially not at the moment. She has handled her illness with such good humour and grace (especially considering she's been hospital/house bound for almost six months now).

It's crap, I hate it and I want to hide under my duvet.

oh red, im so sorry. this is so shit. is there anything at all i can do?

Hassled · 18/02/2009 21:13

I'm so sorry. Wish I knew what to say.

TotalChaos · 18/02/2009 21:14

sorry you are going through such a hard time and your mum is so unwell. COPD is hard enough without the added complication of the CO2 problems. hope they sort out the CO2 problem soon.

Tillyscoutsmum · 18/02/2009 21:15

red What an absolutely shitty time you're all having at the moment. I'll be thinking of you and hoping your mom gets better really soon.

MaureenMLove · 18/02/2009 21:17

Aw lovely! I don't know what to say. Just know that we are thinking of you. xxx

giraffescantdancethetango · 18/02/2009 21:19

LilRedWG · 18/02/2009 21:21

Thanks all. I'm off to bed in a few minutes. The hospital has my sister's numbers and she will keep me updated as and when.
