mine are getting worse, I am a real cow for about 2 weeks of the month - from ovulation until day 1 or 2 of my period.
Also get pains at ovulation and for a week before the period.
Proper PITA! They used to be better when I had aromatherapy masssage once a month and then also with a REIKI massage.

Family think I am just a miserable moo and tend to forget the two good weeks a month I have!

I am 38

cheesescone · 09/02/2009 13:47

thanks that sounds just like me pains at every stage and get soooooo wound up by everything. i heard on radio about a herb called agnus castus so im going to get some from health shop. i refuse to give up chocolate coffee and alchohol tho, lifes shitty enough at times. i am a pita no doubt, about two days a month when im nice

I seem to go for a few months with relatively little pain, and then will have a couple of months of being unable to function for at least the few days. So don't assume it will always be this bad - it may sort itself out.

Magnesium supplements had a huge effect on my PMT - I really recommend them. Boots/supermarkets sell them.

It could be a sign of fibroids in your womb, however - might be worth a chat with your GP. They do an ultrasound scan to spot them.

cheesescone · 09/02/2009 13:55

thanks for ideas. think will see gp but as you said not always this bad. god this is pants though. think i do need to eat better and not just concentrate on kids

Hmm. I've just started mine, 5 days early, very painful and heavy, plus a dull heavy feeling down there.

Generally they are better, I used to suffer very badly from dehabilitating cramps in my younger years, with gushes of blood. Now it's more manageable, but I've noticed them getting irregular.

One month can be like this and my PMT will go through the roof, another month will be ok, no pain and not too heavy.

I'm only 37 but my sister at 42 is going through the pre-menopausal stage so I've a feeling I'll be early too.

DontSwimInTheLiffey · 09/02/2009 14:00

Mine got better shortly after children but now my youngest is 3 they're starting to pain again, not really terribly though, but just, I hardly noticed them before.

Try Liquorice Root, in capsule form. It's less problematic than AGnus Castus. It has helped my pms headaches

Mine are getting heavier and lasting longer. I'm 38.
Also PMT is getting bad, frm the day I ovulate til about 2 days into my period.
It's really difficult for me to decide whether to go to GP or not, it's so hard to say what's normal and what isn't.
I sometimes stand up or get out of bed, and TMI, can feel clots passing. Most months I am having to change pads every 90 minutes, or wake at night and run to bathroom and sleep on a towel.

Rhubarb · 09/02/2009 14:08

Oooh I hate that feeling when you stand up manky! But tbh, having been a sufferer of very bad periods, it would have to be bloody awful ('scuse the pun) for me to go to the GPs.

Sleeping on a towel was normal, as was changing it every 90mins - so long as that doesn't last more than 2 days. Not wanting to stand up, passing large clots, terrible cramps in stomach, legs and back. Numbness of vagina. Disgustingly awful pmt.

The only thing that's changed with mine are the irregularity of them.

onthepier · 09/02/2009 14:14

Do many of you find that you now get headaches with periods? I do, since my periods returned after having my second child. Sometimes the headache will last for two days + I feel wiped out during it. Aspirins + paracetomols don't seem to touch it, but somebody suggested evening primrose oil, might give that a go!

I do think you get more symptoms/heavier periods as you get older.

cheesescone · 09/02/2009 14:16

god its just shite! doc put me on anti depressants a couple of years ago and guess what, i put on loads of weight and that really cheerd me up. .i suppose just wait for it to pass but would just like miracle cure. there must be one somewhere?Oh and absolutely no idea when to expect them

I've not found anything that works for me, sorry.

mankyscotslass · 09/02/2009 14:35

Rhubarb, at least mine are regular as clockwork, every 28 days. They last about 10 days now as well, from the first spotting/staining, til the last day of staining. I just get fed up. I alqays had painful periods even as a teenager...at one point I was on Ponstan Forte for them.
Told DH I would rather be permanently pregnant, and I had bad pregnancies, lol.
I'm going to try some of the herbal things and see if that helps.
Onthepier, I get badheadaches the day I come on...I nerver used to.

RamblingRosa · 09/02/2009 14:41

Yep! Mine are getting worse. Have been loads worse since having DD (16mo).

desertmum · 09/02/2009 17:19

Mine are terrible - I'm 50 now and get sick and nauseous for days before, terrible stomach pains and nausea during, PMT, you name it . . . I am thinking seriously of having ahysterectomy to try and resolve all this. It's crap. Also get headaches - it's like I've got some sort of terrible disease.

Aaaaagh. Just coming to the end of it now. Finally beginning to feel marginally human again.

Tula2 · 09/02/2009 18:28

Hi

Mine have all of a sudden went the opposite.

They used to be completely pain free and mildly heavy.

The last two months though I have had really bad cramp but they only last about two days.

What going on?

catweazle · 09/02/2009 18:35

Mine are getting really painful again and all over the place. A week or so early, really heavy or really light. I'm 45.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 09/02/2009 18:38

Glad to have found this thread as I've been wondering what is going on, I'm all over the shop with it all. Last night ovulation pains (which I never used to get) sodding woke me up.

I find that some months I'm a week or so late but still get period pain, then another lot of period pain when it comes. I never used to feel sick with it but quite often do now. Not a lot of fun any of this is it !

BobDowne · 09/02/2009 18:43

Mine have definitely got worse over the last 3 or 4 years.
Much heavier, some months get the clots passing thing, ugh. More painful, and i get very moody for first 2 days.
Also periods always used to be every 6 weeks which was nice, now 4 weeks.
Is this the menopause approaching? (i'm 42)

mrsdisorganised · 09/02/2009 19:16

Weird I was just talking to my mum about this!! I'm nearly 30 and my periods are horrndous now....before dc's they never used to be this bad, I'm moody from the end of ovulation and each month convinced I'm pregnant as I'm so nauseous...yuck! Then it's cramps, heavy and more dark clouds overhead when af actually arrives.....

Wolfgirl · 09/02/2009 19:23

In answer to thread question.... abso-bloody-lutely!

saramoon · 10/02/2009 08:47

Yes, dreadful, hate them, are definitely getting worse with age.

SalmonintheLiffey · 11/02/2009 08:16

If you go to the gp about pre menstrual headaches (mine bad,but not migraines quite) what do they do for you?

Kb30 · 12/12/2017 22:26

I'm am 30years old and the older I get the worse I feel my boobs kill me my stomach hurts I feel sick and my skin itchy me and my husband are trying for a baby so Contraception is no good I'm at my wits ends and have to take time off work with it I have tried feminax menifanic acid and nothing works Help

TheHodgeHeg · 13/12/2017 03:00

Yes! I was going to make a thread like this. Over the past year really I've noticed my periods are so much worse. I don't actually bleed because I have a mirena coil but for a couple of days each month I'm a total cow. I know it's my hormones but it's so hard to control myself. In the week leading up to this I'll get progressively more irritable, depressed and anxious.

After a couple of days of peak irritation and anxiety (plus a headache) it's like a light bulb has switched on and I'm back to normal.

Happy to know it's only going to get worse...I'm in my late twenties and no kids yet. I wish we could just switch it all off. I feel ruled by my hormones.
