The bad bit was five days then four weeks of exhaustion and vomiting.

scrooged · 06/12/2008 18:58

I'm so tired now.

Thanks.

Is that the one with stabby earache despite being maxed out on painkillers?

scrooged · 06/12/2008 19:03

Shooting pains in my head behind my ear, cough, fever, exhaustion, did have leg pain. I'm taking ibuprofen and cocodamol. This does the trick but the headache comes back before I can take any more drugs.

I had some blood tests done and my potassium levels were through the floor because of it - I ate tons of bananas and took a mineral supplement and they did recover (as did I) albeit quite slowly.

I only mention it because my leg pains were caused by the low potassium levels (very common if you've been vomiting or taking a lot of painkillers).

SleighGirl · 06/12/2008 19:48

still got it, 7 days so far, haven't actually been sick just felt queasy for days on end. Have sinus pain from hell taking ibuprofen, paracetamol & codeine just to try and sleep..........

scrooged · 06/12/2008 20:04

Ahh. I've not taken many painkillers. I do feel away with the faries though. The leg pains were in the first couple of days. I couldn't manage to take ds to school on Thursday because I felt so ill. I can't sleep properly. I keep waking up every hour. It's driving me nuts. I can't take any more time off my course though.

Still keep getting all hot & cold, dh and I both very fed up with it. dd2 caught it and puked up "spectacularly" at school whilst making youghurt dip.........

bellaBuonNatalevita · 06/12/2008 20:23

Took DS1 (11.5) just over a week to start feeling anywhere near normal.

scrooged · 06/12/2008 20:35

So about a week then?

OP posts:
bellaBuonNatalevita · 06/12/2008 20:38

Hope it does not last too long for you scrooged.

scrooged · 06/12/2008 20:38

I've lost a few pounds, look like shit, my eyes are black and sunken. I could go in on Monday looking like this in the hope they send me home??

I've had similar things in the past and they have been a fortnight, then a week of wobbliness.
Can you get much rest?

SleighGirl · 06/12/2008 20:40

Dh has been 10 days already, I really hope it goes much more quickly for you.

scrooged · 06/12/2008 20:44

I've had it since Wednesday. I had time off last week and have to go back on Monday as I get told off if I have too much time off but I really don't want to spread it around. ds is quite good and does let me rest.

Elibean · 06/12/2008 21:16

If its the coughy one, and not the vomiting one, then dd had fever for 5-6 days, and is now very tired and pale, but much better, on the 7th.

There are some right orrible bugs around this month (have vague recollection said the same this time last year )....get well soon!

scrooged · 06/12/2008 21:17

Thanks.

Welcome

FWIW, GP told me that it could last up to 10 days, and dd had the whole of last week off school - and I'm seriously considering keeping her off on Monday if she's as tired tomorrow as she was today. I don't know where you work/study, but if they tell you off I would threaten them with a GP note - its no picnic!

scrooged · 06/12/2008 21:48

I'm a radiography student. I'm only allowed a very small amount of time off, the course leader has already told me she doesn't want me to have time off as she thinks I may be doing assignments for another course (long story, I'm finishing a MSc off). I'm sure my GP will write a note if I can manage to get an appointment with him though.

Elibean · 07/12/2008 11:33

Hope you're better today, but yes, do get an apt with your GP if you can, otherwise! Exploding head is not the same as bunking for other course work, am sure she'd accept a note

Grublin · 07/12/2008 12:19

Anyone had the really hot eyes with this?
I can't get warm, headaches, ears sore, neck aches, awful cough where I end up almost choking and cant breathe. And constant sniffy runny nose. Today I've lost my appetite.
god it sucks.

Angeliz · 07/12/2008 12:24

We (me, DP, dd1(7), dd2(3) +ds(2) ) have all been ill all week.
Temperature, vomitting, headaches backaches, shooting pains in ears, sore eyes runny noses and EXHAUSTED!!
We are wondering about a walk on the beach today but none seem keen.............
It has got to be the worst thing we've all had, it just zapped us.

scrooged · 07/12/2008 21:45

The head's alot better today thanks but the lungs are spluttering and feel like they have been stamped on. Still have no energy or appetite.

I havn't heard of hot eyes. This sounds horrid .

It must be a nightmare if all of you have this Angeloz . At least it won't pass in between you all so it won't take weeks to go.

Glad your head is feeling better Scrooged.
Managed to muster up some energy yesterday to get some washing on, needless to say I dozed of several times too.
Took DS1 to preschool this afternoon, now ready for another sleep!
Still cold, eyes are still hot, think I've got the onset of diarrhoea now too.

ate some home made mushroom and bacon soup yesterday lunch time and a couple of fish fingers last night. might have some scrambled egg later.
