misdee · 02/02/2005 19:00

he is still waiting for a bed at harefield. the hospital are working with dr banner as far as i know, and they are trying to see what tests they can do here and what needs doing at harefield. his lungs are good, asnd his cardiologist doesnt belive he ever had pneumonia and is pretty annoyed at other hospital for not getting dh properly checked out, even tho we tried to tell the hospital what is wrong. all dh symptons he has had for the past few months point to heart failure, but did they listento us? errrrr no.

at least now he is getting the care he needs and will soon be at harefield.

Good luck misdee, hope the bed comes up very soon, and very well done for keeping at those doctors for the right treatment. My father was wrongly diagnosed with pnuemonia when in fact he had pulmonary emboli which were much more serious.

Berries · 03/02/2005 09:55

Thinking of you misdee. My father also had the same thing happen to him, also following a bout of the 'flu'. He did have a lot of treatment, but they managed to bring it under control and he continued with a very active life. At least he will soon be at the best place possible for him. Hope things improve soon xxx

Thanks for your answers misdee. So was he ill with the virus for long before you got him to hospital? With my brother it seemed so quick although he might have been feeling ill for longer than he told us at the time. He's one of those people who just keeps on trooping even when he's at the end of his physical tether. It's just so weird to think that a flu virus can have such devastating effects. Although I do remember once meeting a young girl who'd got a virus and it had actually paralysed her from the waist down. She'd been in hospital for 9 months. Prior to the virus she'd been a normal 14-year-old. Very very scary.

misdee · 03/02/2005 10:04

think it was 1-2weeks he was ill for. my birthday was the 11th april, he fell ill in the week after, and was in hospital by the 22nd april

mummylonglegs · 03/02/2005 10:22

It must have been hard to come to terms with it as it was a virus?

I have to say, I have a horrible flu at the moment which I can't shift and I feel more worried about it than I have anything else I've ever had. Purely because of hearing about your dh, having the experience with my brother etc. You can never take one's health for granted can you?

anorak · 03/02/2005 10:46

Best wishes to you both, misdee. xxx

noddyholder · 03/02/2005 10:57

Really hope he gets the right treatment soon there are some really brilliant meds for heart failure now which may give him a better quality of day to day life while he waits for a transplant xx

NameChangingMancMidlander · 03/02/2005 11:06

Fingers crossed for him (and you).

bonym · 03/02/2005 17:11

Hi misdee - glad to hear things seem to be moving in the right direction at last - thinking of you all ((((((hugs)))))))

misdee · 03/02/2005 19:50

still waiting. maybe tomorrow.

bought him loads of new pj's, seeing i wont be able to get to see him much thought he should go well prepared. the man wants to have a bath but there are no baths on the ward, he cant shower as it leaves him exhausted, so he is asking for a seat to be put in for him. says there is only so much washing he can do at a wash basin lol.

thinking of you misdee, hope he gets a place soon

how are you coping with kids and bump at the moment? do you have any support

misdee · 03/02/2005 20:09

i am feeling guilty about my kids as i have so much support i am hardly seeing them. does that sound silly?

i walk dd1 to school with dd2, MIl picks up dd1 from school and gives her tea most evenings and drops her back in time for bath and bed. as visiting hrs are 2pm onwards it bloomin hard trying to juggle everything. dd2 has been spending a lot of time at mieows as she gets on well with mieows dd2.

Twiglett · 03/02/2005 20:10

ah yes guilt .. a useless and undeserved emotion .. stop it immediately

misdee · 03/02/2005 20:11

lol, the great and wonderful twiglett has spoken

mummylonglegs · 03/02/2005 22:07

Don't feel guilty misdee. If they're with 'extended family' and that includes friends, they'll be perfectly secure. It's good that you have close people near by.

Oh I hope they get him a bloody bed soon!!

Potty1 · 03/02/2005 22:28

Don't feel guilty misdee - It's damn hard and you can only spread yourself so far. When dd was in hospital once I only saw my ds's 6 times in 8 weeks.....they were 5 and 2 ....I felt cr*p about it and they were having a whale of a time with my mum.

misdee · 04/02/2005 09:38

now i'm panicing, got a message yesterday telling me my maternity care has been changed toi the hospital dh is currently in, and i have a booking in appointment there monday to go thro my notes etc, but now i am worried dh will be moved on monday. argh!!!

btw its a nicer cleaner hospital than the local one, and i had a fantastic borth with dd2 there, so arent worried about that, but am getting a bit upset that it looks likely dh will miss it.

OP posts:
anorak · 04/02/2005 09:42

Wow misdee, changing maternity care to dh's hospital - all sounds like you are starring in a TV hospital drama! He's not going to have much excuse not to get to the hospital in time, is he?

Try not to stress, what will be will be, and hopefully it will all be sorted soon.

misdee · 04/02/2005 09:45

i think we should have our own show lol. its like eastenders here atm (but with no dirty den)

OP posts:
misdee · 04/02/2005 09:48

oh, dh was swabbed for MRSA yesterday. harefield wont take anyone until they have a clear test.

OP posts:
jampots · 04/02/2005 09:49

misdee - when is baby due?

Potty1 · 04/02/2005 09:49

And thank the lord for that misdee! (no Dirty Den I mean)....fingers crossed that all the plans come together and your dh gets to see this buba enter the world

misdee · 04/02/2005 09:51

baby is due 4th march, which is really 4 weeks away, but dd2 was 1 week early, and i am feeling very twingey already with this one. dh could be waiting for a bed for weeks (one guy has been in for over 3 weeks waiting to be moved to another hospital)

OP posts:
triceratops · 04/02/2005 09:58

wishing all good luck to you and your dh misdee.

I thought that if you were in hospital you could get a bed bath from a buxom young nurse, or is that only in carry on films? These days you probably get a swipe with a wet one from one of the cleaners .

Seriously though it must be a terribly hard time for both you and your husband. Hang in there.

misdee · 04/02/2005 09:59

think a swipe is all he'd get, or a male nurse, he wouldnt be happy lol.

he wants good clean tho he says, as he is due to have an angiogram, and doesnt want the docs round the groin area till he has had a good scrub, and wants to use more than a bowl of water lol.
