Has anyone had an insect bite go like this?

I got bitten - pretty sure it was a mosquito- about three weeks ago. It started as just a normal bite but has gone like it looks in the photo. I did an online request with my GP’s this morning and sent the photo, they phoned me and made me an appointment for this afternoon. I don’t usually react to bites much at all.

How are you doing; are you responding well to the new antibiotics?

Good thank you, it’s improving, all the surrounding redness has gone i think the new antibiotics are doing the trick.

I'm pleased, I can see what you mean! I'm a bit scared to ask though... is that ointment or ooze/ pus?

That's a relief that at least some is ointment! Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Yup I have skeeter syndrome. Every time I get bit I react like that

FadedRed · 09/07/2026 16:05

That looks so much better, Op, and the inflammation around the wound has died down.

Yes. I needed strong antibiotics, was fine after finishing the course.

I had one like that once (or maybe twice). I think it was a horsefly rather than a mozzie but my good friend ended up in hospital in Egypt with mozzie bites like that.

Mine was like a gunshot wound. It was actually pulsing. I ended up on 3 different antibiotics and the last lot had a shit load of warnings and said they were for brain infections 😐

It's horrible. So sorry... must be awful in the heat. Keep your legs up on cusions and use some icepacks. Feel better soon Flowers

They gave me Flucloxacillin first time round and I’m now on Co-trimoxazole and they are working.

Glad it's working! Must be so uncomfortable.

Yourinmyspot · 09/07/2026 21:57

Thanks it’s a lot better now, just getting it better and now I’ve got Covid!

Oh bloody hell!

MsGreying · 09/07/2026 22:29

Ouch!
Sympathy that looks uncomfortable.

All healed up now, that second lot of antibiotics did the trick. Just need this Covid to do one now!

I had an infected bite with tracking lines going from it. I had no idea at the time that was an issue, but thankfully someone more qualified then I made sure I saw a Dr for antibiotics pronto!
