Has anyone had an insect bite go like this?

I got bitten - pretty sure it was a mosquito- about three weeks ago. It started as just a normal bite but has gone like it looks in the photo. I did an online request with my GP’s this morning and sent the photo, they phoned me and made me an appointment for this afternoon. I don’t usually react to bites much at all.

I've had similar on three occasions - I don't really react to things as always in garden or fields. However, horsefly, spider and yellow lady bird caused bad bite or contact reaction. Poxicillan applied round the edges (not on broken skin) helped the itching. I used wound wash and dried with sterlie gauze, along with anibiotics. Left it open to air when not being knocked, like on sheets in bed.

As your immunosuppressed, I would seek further medical advice due to the second wound.

That looks worse than the first one! Have you got any left over meds?

Bloody hell op, I thought I reacted badly to bites but based on your photos I definitely do not. Good progress on the first one but the last one probably does need close monitoring when also considering you are immunosuppressed.

Just get yourself to A&E OP. My adult son had cellulitis in the New Year and it was treated and cleared up within a fortnight. x

Yes my son had that happen on his arm after he was bitten by a spider... He had to have antibiotics for the first time in his life... I couldn't believe how bad it got!

I contacted my GP’s this morning with a photo on their online form, they phoned me back ten mins later and I’ve got an appointment at 11am. Certainly can’t complain about our GP surgery especially on a Monday morning. It’s not spread or got any worse overnight.

Oh goodness! There seems to be something going on with you at the moment. I have Skeeter Syndrome and have been on immune suppressants, but never encountered anything like this. I hope your GP appointment today was helpful. Please keep us informed and wishing you rapid healing!

How did you get on with the doctor today?

They gave me some antibiotics and swabbed it again. I don’t know what’s going on at the moment. I rarely get insect bites and when I do they don’t turn like this. I’ve had Covid a couple of weeks ago too, I think I’ve just got a bit run down and taking the MMF and prednisolone don’t help. Think I just need a rest!

Can you get a rest? This seems fairly significant to me, and worth taking time off for.

That’s infected and needs a course of antibiotics very quickly!

Gosh that looks painful! Have you figured out what's been biting you? I had a bad bite back in Feb-think it was a horse fly or something. It itched like crazy for 2 weeks and then finally healed but I have a nice purple patch still all these months later. Can easily imagine it getting infected if I was immunocompromised because I was scratching it like crazy every night!

I live in Australia with my English DH. He’s certainly a mozzie magnet but has never had a bad reaction. We were in the UK a few weeks ago and he got a bite on his ankle. His whole ankle swelled up and went bright red and hard with a patch of little blisters around the bite. We got antiseptic cream onto it straight away and it starred to improve. I was concerned about cellulitis. Still have no idea what bit him.

Literally what are GPs for these days in your view? Bother the doctor? Its their fucking JOB!

That looks nasty and infected. I bet it's driving you mad too. I'm sure yours will be fine once treated. I react badly to bites too so have much empathy for you 😘

I considered going to the pharmacist but I don’t think they would be allowed to give me antibiotics due to the medication I’m on. I don’t think they can do swabs either.
