Feel like I have something stuck in my esophogus...

Its not painful but uncomfortable. Like when you have swallowed something and you can feel it moving down into your stomach. Except it doesn't clear itself. I have had it on and off for a few days and it is really noticeable at the moment. Anyone had experience of this ?

sometimes food can "scrape" on its way down and leave oyu feeling alittle like this, so can refluxing acid from your stomach kinda like heartburn, and finally there is something called "globus hystericus" when people feel there is something in their throat and it is a psychosomatic symptom ( i.e due to stress or panic or worry and hte brain produces a physical sensation as a way of dealing with it ) you can try some gaviscon which might ease it.

thanks mummydoc - interesting about the globus hystericus. I did wonder if I was imagining it, but it is definitely there today. It keeps going away and coming back... Might try some Gaviscon first and see what happens.

I've had this sensation for a couple of months. Feels like there's something stuck at the back of my throat and I keep clearing my throat and swallowing to try to clear it.

I went to the Dr about a month back and he could see nothing but referred me to ENT consultant at the hospital.
My appointment came through and I went last friday.
She put a camera up my nose and down the back of my throat

oooh oggsfrog - sorry to hear you've had it as well. It's very disconcerting isn't it ? I of course have freaked myself out by googling and coming up with cancer and all sorts. Will try and chill about it and ring the docs if it persists. Hope you feel better soon.

Starlight - I am sure I'm not preggers. I did suffer from bad heartburn in my 2 pregnancies and this is quite different. Will look up the other thing...

It does feel like I have something stuck there Starlight - I am pretty sure I'm not pregnant though (at least I hope not !)

twist - a psychosomatic problem is imagined it does produce a genuinely felt symptom it just isn't caused by an organic cause i.e an illness, so for instance globus hystericus is basically your brain trying to tell you all is not well with your mental health ( stress for instance) by producing this feeling of your throat being blocked , if the feeling was being produced because of a tumour it owuld be described as an organic cause as opposed to a psychosomatic cause. btw throat or oesophageal cancer very rarely presents like that an dis very rare aswell. can oyu tell my afternoon surgery is boring me !

I wonder if it's anxiety or stress related. I also get the feeling that something is stuck in my throat and it's a horrible sensation. When I learned that this was a classic stress/anxiety symptom it actually made me feel better. I just try to ignore it now and it DOES go away.

But if this is lower down, towards your stomach, I'd be thinking of reflux. Are you on any medication? I once had an antibiotic that gave me a pain in the chest and it was diagnosed as 'reflux oesophagitis', and it was a recognised side-effect of the medication.

Reflux is also stress related, isn't it?

mummydoc - relieved to hear that cancers are relatively rare ! Maybe I will speak to my GP anyway to see if we can get to the root of it. Thanks for the info as well

missEB - I am on thyroxine but nothing else. It is deffo higher up.

I felt like that and then went down with a cough which became a chest infection , requiring an inhaler

I had something like that - the doctor referred me to the hospital. In the end it was decided I was not using my voice box properly and I was given some exercises- the best one being to pretend to yawn with my mouth shut - I had to do this several times a day. after about a week I really noticed a difference. It has now gone and when I feel it coming back I do the exercises and it goes in a day or two - hth

omg i thought i was the only pearson in the world that felt like there was something stuck in there throat ive had it on and off for years but this time its stayed the longest it at the front just above the wind pipe its not sore or doesnt affect my eating etc but really annoying.i am a real worrier i always think somethings wrong with me some times it affects my tummy aswell i think it might be a mix of stress and acid reflux im too scared to go to docs as i have a phobia of them lol

I have this too!!! Have had it for a few months, and went to see the doc a month or so ago. She said not to worry, but if it persists she'll refer me to an ENT specialist, but I'm too scared to go back! It also affects my tum at times too...so am wondering if it's reflux/hernia - am also terrified it's something sinister. It's definitely worse when I'm worrying about it, and I've had week long periods when it's been okay, particularly if I've had my mind taken off it. Hope you get it sorted soon!

I had this 15 years ago after a very traumatic c.section delivery of dd1. I was convinced they had left something in my throat after the anaesthetic. Then I developed panic attacks and pnd. Anyway here I am 15 years later and my big sister died last week and I have that old familiar feeling in my throat again. It's like someone pressing their finger on my throat, or always feeling like I have a lump in my throat and need to clear it. This time I know what it is and it will go away when my body stops feeling stressed. I know it sounds daft but distraction always seemed to help me, seeing friends and trying to keep busy.

its nice to know that there are people with the same and we can support each other if defo is worse when im stressed or worried about something,it always happens to us women eh.well everyone keep ur chins up x

I feel like I have something stuck in my throth.and I think acid is keep coming up to my throat and it burns.I had this for few days now. I dont know if it is something bad?should I go to see the doctor?please help me

I am suffering really bad with this at the moment. I am 20 weeks pregnant. Dr diagnosed acid reflux but gavsicon just makes me vomit. Although this sensation also bring my sickness back on as its like someone permanently sticking their fingers down my throat. I've read it can be stress related but never suffered from this symptom in the past. I now feel more stressed and anxious because of this. Like a vicious circle.

I'm having these symptoms right now :( I have just ate some toast even chewing it so small before I swallow but still it hurts wen going down, even swallowing saliva has a burning sensation, I am at hospital this afternoon for a pretty op app as I'm I the 11th of December for a procedure that is working the life out of me :( x
