Pain started yesterday morning, stabbing pains in my stomach, feel like I have been hit/kicked.
Today, came home from work because hurt so much, been in bed most of the day. If I lie down and feel my stomach, the pain is on the right hand side, below the belly button and in all that area down to my groin.
Help - what could it be?
have had a poorly tummy since yesterday night, and I have been sick twice today, but I had the pain before being sick, so not pulled muscles iyswim
Help please!!!
TIA

Appendicitis?

bran · 28/05/2008 15:38

I think you might need it checked out just to make sure it's not appendicitis. I hope you're feeling better soon and it turns out to be only trapped wind.

Piffle · 28/05/2008 15:39

appendix? I'd go and get it checked. I had it when pregnant on right hand side. Thought it was weird as pain got steadily worse until I was sick a few times but like you I knew it was not sick bug.

HereComeTheGirls · 28/05/2008 15:40

That should definitely be checked out I think, even if it passes the GP will understand why you made the appointment, don't worry! Hope you feel better soon!

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 28/05/2008 15:40

would trapped wind be that far down?

I thought appendicitis was pain at the back, but could be wrong!

dammit. will have to try to get into the docs (chance will be a fine thing!)

I thoughtvthat too elf but nope. Classic appendicitis. Be prepared btw for quick surgery admission if it is appendicitis. I'd prob bypass gp and try a&e

Piffle · 28/05/2008 15:42

other thing is if you are midcycle ovulation pain? I get bad bad pains. Or make sure zero chAnce of pregnancy?

nervousal · 28/05/2008 15:43

If you can't get appointment at Drs why not try calling NHS Direct/NHS 24 for some advice?

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 28/05/2008 15:43

ah, DH will be impressed - he told me to ring the doctor this morning when I said I was going home (after he was cross that I went to work in the first place) and I thought it would blow over...

brimfull · 28/05/2008 16:01

right iliac fossa pain, may be appendicitis

Piffle · 28/05/2008 16:43

wishing you luck hopefully its nothing serious x

more · 28/05/2008 16:46

It sounds like appendictis. If you can't get an appointment with your doctor today, call out the emergency doctor, someone will be out and very likely you will get a free ride in the ambulance

Niecie · 28/05/2008 16:48

Appendicitis pain starts in the middle, just below the belly button and moves down to the right hand side.

Good job you are off to the doctors. It can flare up and die down but it can also get a lot worse very quickly.

I hope you get it sorted too.

EachPeachPearMum · 28/05/2008 17:42

Mesenteric adenitis- inflamation of the lymph nodes.
Symptoms are exactly like appendicitis- inc vomiting from the pain.

It goes after 3 days starving....

Well been to the doctor who said she wasn't entirely sure if appendix as she said it can be difficult to dignoise early on. So she said I could either come home and see how the pain goes, phone NHS direct if it gets worse and go to the walk in center, or she could refer me to the hospital.
She then referred me to the hospital (I was quite happy to come home and be miserable with the pain, but DH would be nagging!) so I am waiting for DH to get back to talk me to the hospital. Been told to pack an overnight bag, "just in case"
Eeeek.
Hoping NOT appendix as I've got tickets to see Sex and the City tomorrow with my sisters and my mum, dammit!!

If it hangs around your belly button and doesn't move, it could be mesenteric adenitis! My dd2 has ended up on a drip with it twice since Christmas as she couldn't stop vomiting. Both times she was also under observation for appendicitis as it is so similar. And the medics say it is agonising.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 28/05/2008 18:13

is it easy to diagnose?

brimfull · 28/05/2008 18:16
