Why is my nose subtly starting to look deformed??

Gottheick25 · 14/02/2025 22:55

Basically, the bin it's in the middle of my nose (inside the nostril like in the middle if that makes sense) one side is significant larger then the other. It's starting to be very noticable and he end of my nose is starting to bend if that makes sense. I can feel that the bone is almost poking out on one side. I hope this makes sense I've tried to explain best I can. Does anyone know what this is and how I can stop it?!?!?

Sounds like a deviated septum. I have this and as I age my nose seems to be wandering further across my face. You can get surgery but it's a bugger of a recovery. I just tilt my head downwards a lot and hope that I don't have to talk to many short people (I figure taller people can't see inside my nose!!)

Teaandapple · 14/02/2025 23:00

Well, I’m sure your nose looks fine, but I have been wondering if mine was becoming more bulbous. Noses continue to grow all through our lives apparently.

SnickersAndRipples · 14/02/2025 23:01

I have this and it is definitely getting worse as I get older. I’m so self conscious about it and look particularly awful from one side.

TheReturnOfFeathersMcGraw · 14/02/2025 23:03

My nose is quite wonky now, and I dont play rugby or any contact sports (my eldest did headbutt me a few times when he was a toddler but nothing too damaging!) How strange!

Gottheick25 · 14/02/2025 23:04

This is what looks like inside (not my actual nose) and then from he front it looks wonkey. What is it?! It has always been like this!

Mine is MUCH worse than that.

And then my actual nose. It just looks weird and it's getting worse!

That looks fine to me and quite symmetrical

It's making me paranoid. I'm only 30 and I feel it's ruining my face (I have a massive pig nose anyway so this just makes it worse!)

But what is that lump?!?

It does look fine to me but I can understand that you are focusing your attention on it and it is making you feel paranoid.
Might be worth speaking to your GP to see if they could refer you to ENT?

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 14/02/2025 23:08

I can't see a lump.
If you can, go and see your doctor.

Yes I think I will but I feel like they'll think I'm nuts rocking up whining about a sticky out bone in my nostrils lol I can't even find a name for anything on Google either.

The lump is your septum, surely? It's deviated (ie moved to the side) so you can see the base of it on one side). But it's nowhere near as bad as mine, so definitely nothing to worry about!

Choux · 14/02/2025 23:14

The 'lump' is the deviated septum

Thank you @Choux , I thought I was going mad for a minute there...

But the lump isn't on m actual nose, it's inside my nose in the lower corner and I feels like bone sticking out. Or am I being thick lol it hasn't always been like his and I feel like maybe it's one of many headbutts to the nose from my aggressive autistic toddler.

The nose never stops growing. It’ll grow until you die. Sometimes people faces get longer too. Thats what’s called being long of tooth. People get a long horsey looking face. I know, depressing.

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 14/02/2025 23:28

You should see your G.P. & request an ENT referral.

Google deviated septum, it’s been suggested by a PP and I agree.

Devianinc · 14/02/2025 23:33

And nobody’s face is perfectly symmetrical, one side is different from the other. Some people faces you can see it more clearly.

Thanks I've googled but I just dont this k it's that as it's not always been there and could a headbutt (or many cause this)
I've googled and come across enlarged turbinates hytrophy which also looks similar to what happening with my nose.

Ahsheeit · 14/02/2025 23:35

It's your septum, made from cartilage. You don't have a bone there.

Are you on zoom or FaceTime etc a lot? Apparently everyone hates their faces particularly noses because we have to see ourselves in those little screen boxes all day.

It looks fine to me, normal, I assume it's not causing you pain?
The angle of your photo is not the angle most people who see you will see you, so I don't think you should be concerned about what other people might think, it's not likely anyone would notice what you do about your own face.
