It is 8 years - and I think I have some phobia about going. And last time was because I had erosion.

lilolilmanchester · 24/04/2008 18:21

just had one, was petrified cos thought I had a problem. Didn't, it was clear.GP told me that you get the letters every 5 years but should have them every 3. Please go!

PandaG · 24/04/2008 18:23

last Friday

I agree, much less uncomfortable this time.

MargaretMountford · 24/04/2008 18:26

in December or November -

MrsTittleMouse · 24/04/2008 18:31

Last year. It was agony as my episiotomy scar hadn't healed well, but I knew that I didn't want to TTC without a clean bill of health.

mistressmiggins · 24/04/2008 19:52

I go every yr
I had abnormal cells and apparantely after that, you get one every yr for 10 yrs!
I will now go to one every 3 yrs and to be honest, I feel a little nervous about that.
Yes its uncomfortable but I feel secure knowing Ive been given the all clear.

I have a coil so I had it checked at same time

Milliways · 24/04/2008 20:08

I was in a Pathology lab today where they have HUNDREDS of smears waiting to be processed, and couldn't believe the numbers that were comimg in. No-one had warned them about the TAMPAX campaign, TV programmes, radio programmes etc that are everywhere at the moment!

beautifuldays · 24/04/2008 20:16

never had one, am terrified

mistressmiggins · 24/04/2008 20:32

beautifuldays
you need to have one
no need to be terrified
its a little uncomfortable but necessary

beautifuldays · 24/04/2008 20:39

i know i know

but i had a really horrid experience with a gp doing an internal after i had my first baby, that i just can't face it. feel sick just thinking about it tbh.

Lmccrean · 24/04/2008 20:53

I got letter about mine yesterday- my last 2 were abnormal. Im a bit worried. Thats a lie actually. Im terrified.

Lmccrean · 24/04/2008 20:54

must say tho, ive never found them physically uncomfortable.

Milliways · 24/04/2008 21:00

Were they abnormal or just "inadequate". Quite often the sample is insufficient for testing, or contaminated with blood, and if that happens twicw in a row they send you to hospital to ensure a consultant gets a proper sample (and a good look at same time)

Fllight · 24/04/2008 21:02

I think I had one about 2 years ago, before I got pregnant. Never got the result as it was at the GUM clinic (went for all clear as new relationship)

Beautiful days, would it help to talk about it? Poor you

Lmccrean · 25/04/2008 10:08

milliways - they were abnormal.

BohemianLilly · 25/04/2008 10:17

Ive never had one either, im 24 and have never been called for one...........might sort one out tho

largeginandtonic · 25/04/2008 10:27

I had one after dd, that was nearly 8 years ago I made an efforet to get one this year and then paniked a lot when the result came back as abnormal. I had to go in and have a Colposcopy last week, loop excision performed.

I worried so much because i knew that if there was something abnormal i had not had it checked for so long it could have been very serious.

I am hoping the results come back all clear but still feel very foolish for not having gone sooner. I have a bit of a fear of smears.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 25/04/2008 10:28

Mine was due last autumn but I'd had a miscarriage swiftly followed by another pregnancy. So it'll have to wait until I've er, healed up a bit! But it'll be well before the end of this year. It is important.

I check for breast lumps too.

largeginandtonic · 25/04/2008 10:29

Beautiful ditto the nasty examination I wouild rather give birth.

Lmccrean have you been called back for a Colposcopy or is just abnormal and go back and have a repeat smear?

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 25/04/2008 10:35

beautifuldays - go and see/talk to the Practice Nurse about smears. Ours is an absolute sweetie. She doesn't rush and uses as much gel as required, which is important post-birth, and the new plastic disposable instruments are much nicer than the old steel ones. You leave your top half dressed and cover yourself from waist down with a folded blanket so you're not exposed for ages. It's really OK.

Nappyzone · 26/04/2008 20:37

i got told mine was about due just after i had ds (hes now 17 months) - i never had a reminder letter so it has slipped on by - this is a good reminder for me and although i dread the thought i will book in for it this week like a good girl

ZeMNetterWithZeBigBoobies · 26/04/2008 20:46

Disenchanted and beautifuldays - Didn't your midwife discuss this at your booking in appointment and your GP never mentioned it at your 8 week check?

I'm shocked.

Please go and get it done.
