2 week wait cancer referral

Is anyone else currently in the 2ww for a suspected cancer referral? Thought I’d make a thread just so we could keep each other company and have a chat to distract ourselves as it really is an anxious wait! I was referred on the 13th, I saw the consultant on the 15th and my ultrasound is on Thursday.

I've been on it twice (raised ca125 & abdominal problems)

Just wanted to reassure you that only about 10% of referrals end with a cancer diagnosis, so the odds are always in your favour.

ForFairMoose · 27/08/2024 13:17

Thank you, it’s always helpful to hear from others who have been in the same boat. Hopefully the scan will go well and I will get some positive answers in September so I can stop worrying!

Saw consultant 16th Aug , had second CT scan on Thursday 11cm ovarian cyst and elevated CA125 , pre op Sept 11th

Zerro · 27/08/2024 13:39

I've been on it 4 times. Once turned out to be breast cancer but the rest were all clear.
I was referred for raised CA125 but not as a 2ww. It can be raised for many reasons other than ovarian cancer and the gynae told me that it's only really a useful test in monitoring patients who are known to have ovarian cancer.

ForFairMoose · 27/08/2024 15:17

Thanks for your responses. I hope you are doing okay now Zerro.

I’m keeping busy today and feeling somewhat better than yesterday, still nervous for scan but I suppose that is normal in these circumstances.

Am waiting to go into gynae oncology for outcome of second 2ww gynae referral this year, and am already known for to melanoma and bcc skin cancer.

Think the polyp they removed during colposcopy and hrt responsible for symptoms, am more worried they'll take me off HRT tbh.

Always do alone as just having DH makes it feel more of a 'thing'.

Hope you’re okay Phunky. At least there’s a couple of us waiting right now.

Scan and biopsy tomorrow afternoon. The needle that’s going to be going in my neck is making me more anxious than anything. I know it won’t hurt (as I’ve been asked to bring someone as I won’t be able to drive under local anaesthetic) but just the needle 😖

What's your referral for? Sounds like thyroid, I have had 2WW for thyroid and went prepared for a biopsy but when the consultant went over my MRI he decided I didn't need a biopsy.

Hope all goes well for your

Thank you! It is Head and neck, the lump is at the top of my neck so they thankfully haven’t mentioned anything about my thyroid. I’m glad to hear you didn’t need a biopsy in the end - I hope I won’t do. :)

How did things work out for you? Currently on a gynae 2WW and my anxiety is through the roof.

Another one on the wait for gynae issues. I had my scan and biopsy on Monday so now it's just a case of waiting anxiously for the results.

What type of scan did you have if you don’t mind me asking? Not sure what to expect. Also bleeding really heavily so not sure how much they can do/see.

I had an internal ultrasound followed by hystropy (sorry, I don't know how to spell that!). I'm bleeding too and they said it was absolutely fine and they are used to it.

Did you get any pain relief or anaesthetic for the hysteroscopy? Can’t remember if thats the one that people say can be painful. Do you have to wait on results now?

Sorry just realised you said you were waiting on results. Have they said how long?

KurtCobainLover · 16/10/2024 12:31

I didn’t have any pain relief but to be honest I didn’t find it that bad and it was quite quick. It felt very crampy then a pinch when they took the biopsy. The staff were lovely and made it clear I could stop at anytime and they’d book me in for it to do be done under GA but I just wanted to get it over and done with.

I should have the results early next week.

1984Winston · 16/10/2024 13:13

I'm currently waiting for biopsy results to see if I have Melanoma, despite being on the 2ww it's not been very quick, I rang the doctor at the beginning of August, saw my GP at the beginning of September and finally had my biopsy last week. Just want to know now!

I was only referred on Monday so haven’t heard anything yet but I’m having my gallbladder out on the 27th so worried about how I’m going to handle an appointment if its within days of that.

1984Winston · 17/10/2024 13:38

I've been constantly checking my NHS app and it no longer says I'm waiting for a referral (the biopsy appointment was never on there) so hoping maybe this means my results are back?

Oneearringlost · 17/10/2024 13:54

OP, to try and reasurre you, I was having a conversation with DH about this just last night.
He is a respiratory consultant.
The respiratory team got data yesterday to show that they are seeing ( to be clear, this is just the respiratory specialty), four times the number of fast track 2 week referrals that they saw 10 years ago but they aren't diagnosing ANY more cancers.
So it seems to be more a reflection of GPs referring more, due to fear of litigation, patient demand etc..than a true increase in cancer diagnoses. To be clear, again, this is only respiratory.
I hope your outcome is positive. The 2w referral does not necessarily mean the sinister result we all dread.
All the best, horrid time, nonetheless. Xx

I’m in Northern Ireland and we don’t have that app so it’s just a waiting game for a letter or phone call. Hopefully your results are in.

Wishing you all well. I was put on the 2 week pathway for suspected lung cancer. Had CT and bloods done the following week. Had an appointment for follow up with the GP 4 weeks after my referral date. By which time he had received the blood results but they had not found their way onto the app and I had received an all-clear letter from the hospital that had not found its way to the GP. If you have to select your own venue for any tests then do make sure it is one that automatically sends results to you or at least your GP. My bloods were done out of area (though nobody told me and the venue was very close to home plus was an available choice for online booking). Had I not chased the GP surgery for results (and been very rudely informed I had gone out of area) they would be languishing somewhere still.

1984Winston · 12/11/2024 14:28

I'm still waiting for my results, everyone keeps saying it must be fine if you haven't heard which is pissing me off no end!
