since pg ive had terrible gums - i go to dentist every few months and get a local anaesthetic to have my teeth cleaned and polished. anyway.

we moved last year and i was delighted to find the local dentist was taking nhs patients. so dds dh and i have been a few times now, dds are great and go no probs

last week i had a filling replaced right at the back - since then ive had an ulcer where he put in the local anaesthetic. its been agony so when i went in today to get another anaesthetic for my polish i told him this and he just shrugged. he then said "right we are going to clean and polish one side today and the other side next week so ill freeze one side"

i lie down and he gets the giant needle out i close my eyes and he starts injecting it right at the back of my mouth. ive had a few injections in my mouth and this one I KNOW is starting to go wrong. my whole neck feels like its being stabbed with knives. and my bottom lip feels like that too. i know as a nurse that he is probably putting the injection in too fast (i am thinking all this in a split second) so i lift my arm and tap his elbow to say "please stop"

he withdraws the needle sits back and starts SHOUTING at me "dont you dare grab my arm again i could have put that needle right into your neck"
well i didnt grab your arm i say
i started shaking and crying and still my neck feels horrendous. so i tell him this and he says "oh for god sake your neck isnt going to explode"
so i say back "yes i realise that im just telling you how it feels"
i am sobbing now and i just want to go home
"well you have to pay for your treatment"
so i do and then i ran all the way home

i am not a wet blanket about dentists etc and these things dont normally bother me but im still shaking and crying

does anyone know a lovely dentist in ediburgh please

how horrible, can you complain? get money back? do PALS do dentists?

sounds as though he knew he'd buggered it up and that is why he was so aggressive.

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/04/2008 11:23

I should transfer to nice lady dentist at once !

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/04/2008 11:24

that's TERRIBLE poor you naily

what a total pig

PABLOP · 14/04/2008 11:27

oh NailPolish you poor thing, you really cannot let him get away with this sort of behaviour. I know its stressful enough going to the Dentist without this disgusting treatment. If you do complain make sure you get your money back.

HereComeTheGirls · 14/04/2008 11:29

OK, message sent. Sorry to be all mysterious, its just it's a bit awkward for me recommending one of the dentists I work for over the other one, so if you could keep it to yourself that I recommended you I'd be grateful ;) HTH

nailpolish · 14/04/2008 11:31

and good luck ..your first step would be to make a complaint to the practice in writing I think.

Oh NP that is awful! What a horrid man, you must have been terrified.

You should complain incase he does this to others too Let dh go and have a set to with him.

How are you feeling now? Do you think he hit a nerve? Sweet tea and a lie down i think.

nailpolish · 14/04/2008 11:38

i think he was just pushing the injection in too quick. i dunno. it still feels horrible

thaks for tea and sympathy, girls

The mouth is ultra sensitive but still stabbing pain in the neck is not right. If it doesnt fade soon then yuo may have to find a lovely dentist to visit and have him take a look.

Is the ulcer hurting too? DD has had one before and had to have antibiotics as hers would not shift, think i gave it a few days.

Poor you, hope you feel a bit better now.

avenanap · 14/04/2008 12:14

You need to report him. This is very wrong and no professional should be behaving in this way. It sounds like he hit a nerve. As for the ulcers, try corsodyl mouth wash, I had a tooth removed a couple of months ago and had a few ulcers from this. They cleared up very quickly and were pain free.

Your experience sounds horrid, don't let him get away with this.

nailpolish · 14/04/2008 12:46

the anaesthetic is wearing off except for my lip and chin but now its all sore, down my neck and up to my eye

why do these things happne to me?

OP posts:
largeginandtonic · 14/04/2008 12:50

Sounds like he did hit a nerve NP Take some brufen and rest. If it is still sore tomorrow then go back to another dentist.

I know the feeling btw

nailpolish · 14/04/2008 12:52

you are lovely
