Autumnlover65 · 03/07/2024 13:15

Just wondering if anyone can make sense if this comment on my abdominal ultrasound report, "degraded images due to patients demise"

As far as I know I haven't died 😂 and the report says the ultrasound was normal. Just not sure what it means?

Thanks in advance

How odd!

MaryMack · 03/07/2024 13:18

I would think that is not your ultrasound report.

Justsomethoughts · 03/07/2024 13:19

It will be a typo. Radiologists often dictate their reports into one of those automatic typing platforms. Sometimes they say difficult exam due to patient habitus or similar. So someone hasn’t spellchecked.

Agree with this, or the ultrasound person has a habit of copying and pasting incorrect bits from elsewhere!

It has my name on and all my info etc. The only thing I can think of is where it says the images were degraded may be because I'm overweight but surely they would say due to bmi etc. So strange!

How strange! I'd guess it's a c&p error to be honest if everything else looks normal

Ah okay, well that makes more sense!

It's a typo where something has been misunderstood on dictation, probably size instead of demise.

Oh gosh, it could therefore be 'degraded images due to patients size' which sounds awfully rude, but would explain why its been heard as demise instead of size on a dictaphone.

endofthelinefinally · 03/07/2024 13:24

Either wrong report typed using your ID, or a very bad quality tape and "size" misheard as "demise".

I think that's what she's referring to then but why would she say "demise"? May be a typo as others have suggested.

I used to be a medical secretary. Whoever typed it could have misheard size as demise.

Spinet · 03/07/2024 13:34

It might be size but it's a nice reminder that things could be much worse! 😁

Howtonamechange · 03/07/2024 13:38

Hahaha that's a hilarious typo. It's probably like others have said a dictation error. I imagine it's body size thats been misinterpreted.

Haha so strange but yes I imagine it must be an error.

Haha 🤣

I think someone misheard size OP and just kept typing without thinking.

Ozanj · 03/07/2024 13:44

I think she dictated size and it came out with demise lol.

I once had a really rude, patronising and unpleasant midwife repeatedly explain to me in graphic detail how difficult an ultrasound would be because I was so very fat - she must have used the phrase "due to your size" about fifty times (accompanied by insulting hand gestures and other delightful phrases like "larger lady" and "big around the middle"). So my money is on a medical secretary mishearing the word "size".

DreadPirateRobots · 03/07/2024 13:52

Almost certainly misheard dictation for BMI.

Cas112 · 03/07/2024 13:56

If your overweight I presume they must have meat 'patient habitus' which means your body's form/weight so they probably not really concentrated on what they was typing

That is really awful, how rude 🙄 Seems to be the most likely explanation lol.
