Just wondering if anyone can make sense if this comment on my abdominal ultrasound report, "degraded images due to patients demise"

As far as I know I haven't died 😂 and the report says the ultrasound was normal. Just not sure what it means?

Thanks in advance

We have to accept that obesity/ high BMI is a health risk, it does make ultra scans difficult to carry out and interpret. The comments aren't personal. I have gained a lot of weight after being ill and on loads of drugs, including steroids, for years. I know that my weight makes my symptoms worse. I am trying to lose weight. I don't take it personally when this is mentioned.

PerkyMintDeer · 12/07/2024 09:22

I think it was a dictation of BMI rather than size.

Oh no I'm not offended nor taking the comments personally. I fully understand how being overweight can affect health. My point was why was the word "demise" used.

it is very often speech recognition. so that's fun!

Seems so!

endofthelinefinally · 12/07/2024 20:54

Has to be BMI or size.

Willmafrockfit · 12/07/2024 20:55

bmi does not sound like demise

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/07/2024 20:56

Weird! Probably a typo/cut and paste.

My US couldn’t locate one of my ovaries recently. I’m fairly sure it’s still there 🤣

No but it does sound like size which I assume is what they meant as I'm clearly not dead Grin

Demise can also mean collapse.

I'm missing a gallbladder! She tried for an hour to find it then said she couldn't find it because I'd eaten too much.

I was nil by mouth!

Demise can also mean collapse.

But how would collapse mean overweight?

I've had that on an ultrasound report, its code for the patient is overweight.

Walkacrossthesand · 12/07/2024 21:13

I'm with the 'speech recognition' software camp - if you roll the 'BM' together before the 'I', the software might have opted for 'demise' as the nearest match. Reports are read through and this kind of error should be manually corrected, but easily missed on a time-pressed skim read.
And 'demise' isn't a word used to describe a collapse, as a PP suggested. It's always 'ceased to be'.

It does if you kind of gabble it. Beemeye - Deemeyes.

Oh really? Such a strange way of wording it isn't it!?

Is demise sometimes a synonym for demeanour? Like, the way you present?

No. It just means death.
I wonder if you are thinking of demeanor?
