Long story short I took some rescue pet rats and they're not friendly

Last night one got me and wouldn't bloody let go

Over night my finger has gone red and swelled but don't know if it's just bruised and swollen due to the bite , would infection set in this quick ?

I spent 36 hours in A&E with an infected finger. The doctor sent me.

vipersnest1 · 03/10/2023 21:31

I agree with others. Given where the bite is and the entire underside of your finger is bright red, that needs to be seen, especially as it was over 24 hours ago.
Sorry to say it, but you are being rather foolish if you are immunocompromised and think that taking any old antibiotic will sort it out - I'm sure that you know better than that. I'm also sure that you are sick of having to think about whatever condition it is that causes your problem, but there are times when you really need to say 'ok, I need to sort this out' - and this is one of them.
(Mum of an adult DC who is in remission from one really nasty autoimmune condition, but now has another, so is immunosuppressed too.)

Good! You absolutely cannot fuck about with a bite like that to the hand. Good luck, and please let us know how you get on.

winterchills · 03/10/2023 21:32

Just in case you’re swithering about A&E I went in with a broken foot recently and there was a girl who sat on her cat and it bit her arse, she’d been sent by 111 and was seen really quickly. Someone else has mentioned leptospirosis, I wouldn’t fuck about, pet rats or not.

bemorebernard · 03/10/2023 21:33

I'd just for my pjs on too ! Grrrer

Ffs op is very unlikely to be developing nf. Prevalence = 1/100000

vipersnest1 · 03/10/2023 21:52

Good luck, @bemorebernard,
I hope you can get sorted quickly (once they've flaffed around doing the usual stuff like bloods, as I'm sure you know). Flowers

olympicsrock · 03/10/2023 22:03

OP - your finger Is swollen with red/ purple discolouration. You gave NHS 111 incorrect information hence being triaged wrong.
Get yourself to A and E.

Elieza · 03/10/2023 22:03

OP did you say you’ve told them your finger is NOT red and swollen? Your post confused me. I’m not the brightest lol…
Glad you phoned them.

Typo for hot, I imagine.

Notcookie · 03/10/2023 22:07

Well done for going to A+E. Hope you get seen soon.

Elieza · 03/10/2023 22:08

My post crossed in the post with the one before it.

I agree with that one. If you’ve told them your finger is fine, ITS NOT. Please phone them back if you didn’t tell them about the colour.
apologies if I’ve misunderstood. Glad you rang them.

You will be triaged quickly and if they think it’s infected put on antibiotic injections. That’s what happened to me. Still a long wait to see a doctor but at least treatment was started. Good luck.

Catpuss66 · 03/10/2023 22:21

You need to be seen today. People loose limbs from infected bites.

PostAndGhost · 03/10/2023 22:27

you are in the right place. Stay there hon

bemorebernard · 03/10/2023 22:39

The wait time has just increased to 7 hours (an emergency has come in ) and at that I have another hospital appointment tomorrow so I can't stay here all night .

They've said I can go and wait for the 111 doctor to phone me and they'll tell me if I need to go back within the hour or if it can wait until tomorrow.

Ffs . Dunno what to do . Anyway thanks all .
