Are you taking Iron tablets/supplements at the moment?

emandjules · 27/02/2008 09:57

i would get to a&e, sounds like you could have an ulcer as black stools = old blood (from stomach. Unlikely to be anything more sinister. Saying that if you are on iron as prev poster suggested this causes black stools
get yourself checked.

bigfatmom · 27/02/2008 09:57

penelopepitstops

I would go straight to A&E.

black poo is a sign of bleeding in the stomach that coupled with the stomch pain is a cuase for concern.

Get yourself seen to straight away.

Just out of interest your not on iron are you as that can cause black poo.

PenelopePitstops · 27/02/2008 09:58

nope no iron tablets or anything, will try a and e

Good luck mate x

HereComeTheGirls · 27/02/2008 10:08

Yes, that is serious..I went to my GP with it and they called an ambulance to take me to hospital, and wouldn't let me leave the surgery! Good luck!

Flllightattendant · 27/02/2008 10:26

HCTG, can I ask what the problem was when you had those symptoms?

I was just going to post that there is usually no pain associated with cancer, so she need not worry about that at least. But it's be interesting to know what can cause such a bleed.

I read it could be colitis or similar. Hope she is not too freaked out

HereComeTheGirls · 27/02/2008 11:07

It was a stomach ulcer, I think that is the far likeliest cause. Was just given Proton Pump Inhibitors and sent home.

Flllightattendant · 27/02/2008 11:51

That doesn't sound too scary

PenelopePitstops · 27/02/2008 14:02

hey everyone, thanks for the concern

apparently its just bad indigestion

but the walk in cantre said i should register with a gp and get some tests done!

OP posts:
justwaterformethanks · 27/02/2008 14:31

how does indigestion cause black poo ? get registered with a gp quick and get those tests

PenelopePitstops · 27/02/2008 14:40

ive just registered with a gp and i probably wont get an appointment until next week they said

I want to go to a&e but feel like I am using up valuable resources that are needed elsewhere

OP posts:
Flllightattendant · 27/02/2008 14:42

Is it worth the risk though? If you are bleeding from an ulcer, you would be at risk of anaemia and it might get worse.

Please go to a&e, they can always tell you to bugger off

We are worried about you

Flllightattendant · 27/02/2008 14:43

...your body is telling you it needs sorting.

I will come round and shout through your letter box if you don't

HereComeTheGirls · 27/02/2008 15:29

Did you read my post? I had ONE day of this, went to my GP and they wouldn't even let me LEAVE the surgery or go to A and E on my own in a taxi but called an ambulance for me and made me lie down!!!! I hate to be harsh but you are being very silly if you don't go!!!!

HereComeTheGirls · 27/02/2008 15:30

Like silly as in you could die. Not to be over the top, but you need to go and get seen.

boudoiricca · 27/02/2008 15:33

what is the walk in centre? I think you need proper medical attention - don't wait for GP next week, go to A&E

PenelopePitstops · 27/02/2008 15:33

hctg did you have loose poo or normal poo, the nurse sadi as long as my poo was normal im ok with gaviscon

OP posts:
PenelopePitstops · 27/02/2008 15:52

the walk in cantre is where there are nurses to advise you on whether or not to go to gp a and e etc

OP posts:
PenelopePitstops · 27/02/2008 16:11

echoing the 'got to A+E NOW!!' here.my mum had the same thing for 2 days, went to her gp who also rang an ambulance and she was told at the hospital if she'd left it another 24 hours she may not have made it

emandjules · 27/02/2008 16:49

you should really get to a&e now
