Why is there an illegal alien in my stomach?

Hi, I have been getting stomach spasms behind my belly button, and across my lower abdomen for a few days now. I have had no pain, no indigestion, and no other symptoms. I don't think it is a muscle strain as it isn't sore at all. This is becoming really distracting, annoying; when I lie down you can clearly see the movement. I can feel it jumping away. I'm starting to think there is a little creature inhabiting my stomach. Does anybody know what this can be? Anybody experienced similar?

Well the obvious question is are you pregnant? If you’ve not had sex in the last 9 months then you’re safe otherwise I’d be taking a test asap.

EyelessArseFace · 14/06/2023 14:40

It's either a tapeworm, wind or a baby.

Maybe rule out the baby first?

WHATwhenHow · 14/06/2023 14:46

Oh my goodness, the tapeworm theory is really freaking me out! Baby very unlikely as my husband has had a vasectomy. Would wind be painful though? I have more cramps, and no pain. If it was wouldn't this symptom have occurred before?

OP posts:
WHATwhenHow · 14/06/2023 14:46

Sorry should say *no cramps

I don't know whether vasectomies are 100% successful. Perhaps you need to take a test.

WHATwhenHow · 14/06/2023 14:50

He hasn't had his results back to make sure everything okay. However we waited the recommended time. I definately don't want any more babies!

My weight hasn't changed either.

WHATwhenHow · 14/06/2023 14:54

Also should mention I haven't missed any periods, my last one being about 3 weeks ago.

Your insides move about all the time. If you look to see how much your intestines and bowel covers it makes sense that you would feel it sometimes.

Or it could be your aorta doing it's thing. Occasionally it misbehaves and probably should get looked at like.

WHATwhenHow · 14/06/2023 15:03

Thanks @gamerchick it just seems strange I haven't had this before. The jumping is very prominent at times. I'll wait a couple of days, and if it's still there by Monday I'll give my GP a call. It is so strange there are absolutely no other symptoms.

I wondered about aortic pulsation. Is the jumping regular and steady like your heart beat?
If you have had children it can be easier to feel the aortic pulse due to residual separation of your abdominal muscles.
Also, if you do speak to a HCP, it is your abdomen, not your stomach, which is situated in a different place entirely. Telephone consultations can be tricky, yet seem to be all that is available these days.

Hollyppp · 14/06/2023 15:08

I thought this. I took a test wasn’t pregnant. What had happened was my stomach muscles were weaker after DC1 and it was just food in my intestines going down

WHATwhenHow · 14/06/2023 15:09

@endofagain yes it is frequent, and does feel like a pulsating heartbeat with spasms behind my belly button as well as off to the sides, mainly on the left. Is it dangerous?

OP posts:
hattyhathat · 14/06/2023 15:09

I was thinking worms or baby

I would definitely talk to your GP.
Abdominal aortic aneurism is very, very rare and mostly affects older men. Having said that, as you have pain and it is a new symptom I would get medical advice asap.

WHATwhenHow · 14/06/2023 15:16

No, I have no pain, that's the strange thing. I'm fit and healthy, not overweight.

OP posts:
DiscoBeat · 14/06/2023 15:18

I really don't want to worry you but my mum had a 'heartbeat' type pulse there and an ultrasound confirmed an aortic aneurysm. She had to have urgent surgery. She's fine now but it's urgent you get that ruled out. I would insist on an ultrasound at your GP surgery.

HarrietofFire · 14/06/2023 15:19

When something similar to that happened to me it was a massive fibroid

WHATwhenHow · 14/06/2023 15:23

Thanks at @DiscoBeat that must have been unimaginably worrying. Did your Mum have any other symptoms? I'm pleased she is doing alot better now?

OP posts:
WHATwhenHow · 14/06/2023 15:24

@HarrietofFire oh no, did you have any other symptoms? It us definately in middle and on left.

OP posts:
OhComeOnFFS · 14/06/2023 15:25

Why wouldn't you take a pregnancy test?

HarrietofFire · 14/06/2023 15:31

WHATwhenHow · 14/06/2023 15:24

@HarrietofFire oh no, did you have any other symptoms? It us definately in middle and on left.

I had really irregular and painful periods. GP referred for ultrasound and picked up there.

WHATwhenHow · 14/06/2023 15:34

@OhComeOnFFS i will do rule it out before ringing GP on Monday if it continues. Pregnancy is very unlikely, eith husband having a vasectomy, and having had regular periods, last one just 3 weeks ago.

OP posts:
WHATwhenHow · 14/06/2023 15:34

You are asked to continue on contraception until you get confirmation of any motile sperm being present in the sample

He should have provided a sample at either 12-16 weeks depending on the local policy and waited for the results
