It's hopefully a cyst don't worry book an appointment enjoy your Xmas.

Nimbostratus100 · 25/12/2022 12:48

more than 90% of breast lumps are benign - just contact your gp and meanwhile enjoy Christmas xx

PeaceJoySleep · 25/12/2022 12:50

it couldn't have got this big with you only noticing it today unless it was a cyst!
This happened to me 5 years ago and it was a cyst and I had it drained.

Try not to worry. No way you coukd discover a big lump. A small one perhaps, but it's being big is a good sign.

HowVeryLikeSibella · 25/12/2022 12:53

Cysts can grow from imperceptible to huge very quickly - cancers are much less likely to do this. Get it checked out after Xmas but in the meantime put on a good movie and concentrate on the day (easier said than done I know)

KendrickLamaze · 25/12/2022 13:05

Did it come from nowhere? Anything that does is unlikely to be sinister.

I had this once and felt flu like the day before. Turns out I had a huge infection in my breast with track marks where it was growing. I can't remember the word for it but it was the milk ducts and tubes. I don't think it was mastitis but that's all I can find when I google now. It's likely something similar. Speak with your GP.

Zombiemum1946 · 25/12/2022 13:24

As others have said, a large lump appearing quickly is more likely to be a cyst that's filled with fluid quickly. It probably won't stop you worrying but cysts are usually easy to treat if needed and often go down just as quickly. I don't know where you live but your gp should refer you to the nearest breast unit. Mine has a clinic day for new referrals which is one stop where you see a dr and have the necessary tests.

Silkierabbit · 25/12/2022 13:24

Sorry to hear that. I would get a referral to the breast clinic to get checked out. I had a big breast lump appear overnight and unfortunately mine was cancer but 90% are benign.

ADealingMummy · 25/12/2022 13:27

Thank you , thank you all so so much for replying .
I cannot believe you are on Christmas Day of all days.
I feel a bit reassured . I check regularly and today I noticed in the bath that it was the size of a very large gobstopper.
I do have a mild virus , I mean who doesn’t at the moment.

I will try to get a gp appointment as soon as they open next week .

Silkierabbit · 25/12/2022 13:31

Does it feel soft or rock hard? Can you move it?

Afl · 25/12/2022 13:31

Could just be an enlarged lymph node due to you being unwell. I imagine if it was anything of concern you would have picked it up while it was smaller, especially if you check regular.
Enjoy your Christmas!

ADealingMummy · 25/12/2022 13:36

Silkier - it runs away if I put my finger on it and it feels hard really. I’m very sorry about your diagnosis and wish you a speedy recovery.

afl , I hadn’t even thought about lymph nodes . Thank you

Silkierabbit · 25/12/2022 14:08

Thanks ADealing Hopefully will just be as you have an infection or benign cause, would get it checked out at the breast clinic though. Mine was not moveable, rock hard, walnut like in texture and if lifted arm it distorted shape of breast a lot. Was a type lobular which grows as a spiders web not as a lump until the end when it forms a big lump. Mine was about 5cms cubed. I've just finished my treatment and its gone now.

bingobanjo · 25/12/2022 14:16

I’ve had 2 bizarre breast lumps, both absolutely benign. One a big movable one like a golf ball, that was a cyst, and I now have a rock hard pea-sized one that sinks back if I press on it which is a… I won’t be able to spell it, but it’s basically just a hard deposit of fat!

There’s lots of harmless lumps that can appear in breasts, no need to worry, just get it checked out so you can be reassured :)

CoffeeBoy · 25/12/2022 14:31

Dd had a huge lump appear overnight , egg size, mainly in the breast not on top but you could feel the size when prodding. It was an abscess and needed antibiotics. Agree it’s much more likely to be a cyst or abscess.

ADealingMummy · 25/12/2022 14:38

I am so happy to hear it’s gone Silkie.

also thank you to everyone who has found the time to reply .

I am quietly in tears .

I found a huge, irregular lump last year, was absolutely convinced it would be cancerous. Seen in breast clinic and was confirmed as a benign adenoma. Try not to panic, call your GP on Tuesday to get the ball rolling, but it is likely to be nothing to worry about

I do hope everything is OK. I had a breast lump two years ago; I was seen very quickly, within two weeks, and the nurses at the breast clinic were lovely and reassuring - it turned out to be a tissue mass and didn't need further treatment. I hope you can get it checked out soon and that everything is OK - sending positive thoughts. Flowers

Sandra1984 · 25/12/2022 14:44

I too got a lump the size of an olive, it turned to be a fat lump and it disappeared by itself three months later. Don't panic. Not yet.

Sandra1984 · 25/12/2022 14:44

Lump was in my breast too.

Justellingthetruth · 25/12/2022 14:47

@ADealingMummy

i had one during having this horrid flu. It was a cyst and went with treatment !

don’t worry but it not gone get checked!

Lunde · 25/12/2022 14:56

Have you banged your breast recently?

I had a sudden big lump that turned out to be an encapsulated necrotic cyst - basically a bruise that had formed into a cyst measuring 3.5 x 2 cm

I was referred for tests - mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy - but that it what it was. They drained 70ml of fluid out but basically it resolved itself however I can still feel where it was - like a remnant of a deflated balloon

ADealingMummy · 25/12/2022 15:05

Oh gosh I hadn’t even thought of that as a possibility.
i can’t remember banging my breast as such but may well be holding my phone scrolling / watching Netflix awkwardly over a long period of time ( my upper left side can achey at times)

OP, I found a lump, that had appeared from
nowhere, while on holiday last year
i didn’t tell a soul, but it ruined my holiday, as I just couldn’t put it out of my mind. I was obsessively checking ut
By the time I’d got home, it had disappeared, so I can only think it was lymphatic, or similar

I hope yours is something entirely benign, as most are. Hugs
