If you’ve used prochlorperazine…

I’ve been prescribed prochlorperazine by my Gp for vertigo.. I’ve never had it before and have no idea what the route cause of me having this is..I’m fine sat in a certain position and not moving however the second I stand up the room is spinning and I vomit.. it’s horrible I’ve had two doses so far and not really seen Any difference I’ve been sick again since taking the second dose.. I don’t expect miracles but I did read it takes 30-60 mins to take effect.. has it been longer for anyone else who’s been prescribed this?

Sounds awful OP.

My DM did, she had an ear infection. She’s 80, took a couple of days of taking the pills before she felt better.

I have it on repeat for viral labyrinthitis. The first bout I had was truly horrendous- you have my full sympathies.
Yes it takes a while to work. Might make you sleepy too. When mine's really bad, I take two Blushbut not advocating this!
Does GP know the cause?

Yes, l had prochlorperazine tablets prescribed for my first, very bad attack of vertigo, many years ago. It worked for me but took a few days before l saw a real difference. Like you l found keeping my head as still as possible was key to preventing the spinning, as turning my head just made everything swoop and tilt.
I didn't go out for about a week as was so afraid l'd keel over in the street!. It took a while to go away completely, and l did have a couple more bad attacks, but over the years l've learnt to ward it off by taking a short course of the tablets at the first hint of it. I am never without them, just in case!

I suffer from labrynthitis and this is what I get prescribed.
Makes a massive difference quite quickly

Also currently taking this for labrynthitis, is a horrible condition. I'd previously tried this drug for HG in pregnancy but it didn't work and when I mentioned that to the GP today she said that if it didn't help the labrynthitis she could up the dose quite a bit if needed, maybe worth ringing GP. Hope you feel better soon.

I think you can get the drug in a " melt" format, that you put between your lip and gum. DS had them for migraines, because he just threw the ordinary tablets straight back up. They were called Buccastem.

I prefer Cinnarazine (marketed as Stugeron) when I get labyrinthitis- usually related to viral infection, eg after flu. Two tablets as a starter dose, then a single dose 8 hours later if necessary. It doesn’t make me as sleepy as Prochlorperazine, and I find it more effective.
However, don’t mix the two - they are both anti histamines.

I had these for hyperemesis absolute game changer as like your ds couldn't keep other tablets down long enough for them to work.

I’ve called Gp as I’ve been sick again after my first dose can’t even keep fluids down x

If I recognise the signs of an attack coming early enough, then the correct dosage works.
If I don’t, then I find doubling the dose works better for me in the first 24 hours. Please speak to your doctor before doing this yourself though.

I have ended up in hospital when having a bad attack, and had the injection which worked wonders.

My sympathies! I had it quite badly 20 years ago. Came on very suddenly and GP actually came out as a was lying on the floor, barely able to move, and vomiting. I was given an injection which enabled me to get upstairs to bed. But i ended up having involuntary spasms which were horrible, so i was given diazepam to stop them. Then got stemetil tablets which really helped. Took a month to fully recover, but not had a reoccurrence, and we never found out what caused it.

I ended up in hospital on a drip the first time I had labyrinthitis. I have had several bouts of it and at some point it caused damage which left me with a hearing loss. I carry prochlorperazine in my bag and take it at the first sign of dizziness. Apparently Stugeron is also very good.

I took it for labyrinthitis and whilst I wasn’t falling over and bumping into things, I wasn’t moving anywhere at all because it turned me into a zombie! It’s an antipsychotic and can induce sedation. I couldn’t function 😂

Hi the injection did take the edge off and I’ve stopped being sick I’m back to taking the pills now, it’s just making me very drowsy
