Intense itch, scratch then white stuff comes out

Wauden · 02/07/2022 19:37

I get very localised itches in my skin that is a very intense itch like a sort of sharp sensation.
When I scratch the area I have to keep scratching until the itch stops and as I scratch, white bits come out. The bits are usually thin and a max of 1mm long. From descriptions of dermodex, they are too small to be seen. Could they be clusters of mites or something else entirely?
I mentioned this to a nurse and she said she never heard of dermodex, but it definitely a condition.
Its really bad today so I will make an appointment with my doctor which will take a while.
Any ideas?!?

White bits come out your skin? Or like flakes of skin?

SmileyPiuPiu · 02/07/2022 19:39

And is it in the same area each time?

Alfixnm · 02/07/2022 19:43

It sounds more like infected bites/urticaria/ other localised skin thing than anything else OP. I'm assuming the white stuff is small accumulations of pus or cystic fluid?

Demodex are little mange mites which are quite common on human and animal skin. They are far, far, far too small to see with the naked eye.

Wauden · 02/07/2022 19:44

The white bits are not skin flakes, they have a different consistency.
When I scratch them out, they come out if the same hole or area.
Also, the itchy areas are in different parts of my body.

Is your skin bumpy?

Greensleeves · 02/07/2022 19:47

Could they be sebaceous filaments?

Wauden · 02/07/2022 19:50

I don't have a rash or redness.

The vast majority of us have dermodex mites. They're kinda cute, badly evolved. Live in our pores during the day, come out at night to have sex on our faces and explode eventually because they can't poo. There are thoughts that they are beneficial to us re clearing our pores of crap. Harmless and you definitely definitely can't see them with your eyes.

Wauden · 02/07/2022 19:54

The skin is not bumpy. It looks normal. It is really bad this evening.

Can you post a picture of the white things? Could it be just dead skin? I know when I really itch I can get dead skin behind my nails leaving my itchy legs looking like I've grazed them on concrete!

Wauden · 02/07/2022 20:00

@gamerchick Apparently, dermodex is a cause of rosaea, which I don't have, but us awful.

Morgellons?

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 02/07/2022 20:08

Are you wheat intolerant @Wauden ?

gamerchick · 02/07/2022 20:08

Well I admit I don't tend to keep up to date with shit that shags on my face like but a quick Google suggests that certain conditions can make the population explode and cause an immune response.

However you're not on about rosaea and you can't take photos of dermodex.

Wauden · 02/07/2022 20:13

@PutinIsAWarCriminal. Yes, I am wheat intolerant!

@gamerchick There's a YouTube influencer called Dr Dray. She's a dermatologist and very good. She always says you don't need to wash your face in the morning because it's not like it gets dirty overnight. I have been following that advice but now you tell me about exploding bugs that are spattering poo all over my face. 😱 You are placing me into a real quandary here!!

Theredjellybean · 02/07/2022 20:17

I thought morgellons as well.
Those look like skin flakes

WonderingWanda · 02/07/2022 20:22

Everyone has demodex mites on them but not everyone gets rosacea. Op the white bits you've taken a photo of look like skin to me, or maybe grease from pores? Do you have long nails? Is your skim greasy / dry / flaky / smooth? There are lots of medical issues that can cause skin itching and I suspect you are just scraping the surface of your skin off when you scratch. You could try taking antihistamine to see if that reduces the itching and maybe exfoliating to remove old skin cells. If that doesn't work I's suggest seeing a dr.

Wauden · 02/07/2022 20:23

@PutinIsAWarCriminal. That is very interesting because I ate something containing wheat today at a day-long event (it was that or go hungry for hours so I risked it).

Absolutely not, no thank you

Wauden · 02/07/2022 20:29

@WonderingWanda. The stuff has a sort of waxy texture, and I can roll it about.

The itching is intense and after the have had a good old scratch and the stuff comes out, it often stops although sometimes comes back in a spot on my back where it is very hard to reach.

If I don't get the white stuff out it keeps itching until I do.

It does, I was the same Grin look at some pictures they're quite cute. Honestly though, don't think about it. They're properly tiny things that you'll never meet.

TowerStork · 02/07/2022 21:43

How long has it been going on and du you think you have mites in your house?

SadFace2 · 02/07/2022 22:09
