Does this look infected?

I’ve had this dry patch of skin on my elbow for a couple of weeks. Over the last few days it’s got a bit more crusty and sore right in the bend of my elbow. It’s not particularly weepy but is wet in the crack. Is it worth contacting the GP surgery tomorrow? Hopefully I’ve attached a photo.

I would have it looked at, especially as its got worse over a few weeks.

Looking a bit yellow crusty. I'd suspect that there's some staph in there (though always hard to tell on a photo). I would think it's worth getting it looked at.

Yes. I had this recently a tiny tiny patch of a very large patch of very bad sunburn.

I went to pharmacy with a picture who told me to call 111 who put me through ooh then a nurse called me then a ooh doctor called me then he told me to send photos then told me to go to a and e! To be seen by a gp!

Who gave me oral antibiotics (flucloxacillin?) the next day I felt instantly better.

I would put money on that having a fungal infection more than bacterial.

Get the GP to send away a swab to check for bacteria and yeasts.

I’d definitely go to the doctor

that looks very sore and itchy and is in need of medical attention.

needs probably treatment with steroids plus antibacterial and antifungal oitments.

hope it heals well

Yes. That looks very painful. I've had severe eczema my whole life and it's never been that cracked or deep.

Go to the GP.

That is not going to get better on its own. Definitely needs looking at.

I’d go to the appointment with an overnight bag packed or s minimum of some food/power bank or entertainment incase they want you seen in hospital for possible IV antibiotics. So you can go straight there if they think you need reviewing.

Oh gosh that looks so sore today! Please keep us updated on what they say. Hope you feel better soon.

Jesus wept, I agree with the advice about taking stuff in in case they need to keep you in. In fact I think I'd go straight to urgent care tbh.

Ooof. Gone from "that needs antibiotics" to "that needs IV antibiotics".

SharpLily · 27/06/2022 14:48

I'd skip the GP and go straight to A&E. That doesn't look healthy.

Good lord, why have you not had it looked at before now?!

i'd go straight to A&E.
i'm surprised you've left it so long. from your description i was imagining a small patch 2" across maybe of flakey skin.
but even the first picture looks serious.
as for the second, well, doubt they will deal with that at GP.
do you have a compromised immune system ?
good luck.
