Cerazette - pill from hell??

I'm hoping someone has had some experience taking the progesterone only pill and can share their experience please!

I've been taking it for around three weeks now. The first couple of weeks I felt absolutely fine. Bleeding and spotting but that was to be expected. So happy and thought I had finally found the pill for me. Can't take any others because I have migraines.

Third week - AWFUL. Terrible spots on my face, a tension headache that won't go away, dizziness and severe anxiety to the point where I'm not wanting to leave the house.

This is pretty much my final hurdle with the pill so I am really desperate for this to improve. I will get the coil if necessary but really, really wanted this to work out for me. Sad

Has anyone else had these symptoms on this pill? Thanks in advance!

Sorry, should have added - did your symptoms get any better?

It was the 12 weeks of constant bleeding that did it for me!!

Afterfire · 05/06/2022 09:55

Maybe it just doesn’t suit you? Personally I find it absolutely fantastic. I’ve been on it nearly 10 years now and yes I did have some initial unpredictable bleeding but carried on and haven’t had any bleeding whatsoever in about 9.5 years now and I love it for that. I am 41 and want to stay on it as long as I can. I’m now menopausal due to autoimmune issues and take it as part of the HRT I’m on (it counts as part of the progesterone).

TigerRag · 05/06/2022 09:57

I came off it after a 3 week period. I was put on it after my period gave me migraine (a 5 day period was a 5 day migraine) and for a while, it was fine. I then ended up with migraine again and that with the 3 week period, meant I had to switch.

CRbear · 05/06/2022 09:58

I was miserable on cerazette. Mood swings. Gradually stopped leaving the house due to my low mood/anxiety.

afinethingindeed · 05/06/2022 10:02

I got on with it fine. I remember I did have an initial breakout but that cleared up after a few weeks and skin was fine for years after. I will be looking to go back on it once I've decided if/when to have next baby :)

Lilboots · 05/06/2022 10:10

I love it. It did take a few weeks to "break in" but I very rarely get periods at all now. Hopefully it will settle for you x

Fupoffyagrasshole · 05/06/2022 10:10

I felt awful on this for a year - constant foggy feeling, severe anxiety and migraines

tbh I just would personally never use any form of hormonal birth control again! I haven’t taken any for 5 years

condoms work fine

BoothsChristmasBrochure · 05/06/2022 10:14

I love it too. I had spotting on and off for probably about months (but gaps between spotting grew bigger during that 6 months, so could see an improvement and persevere). I think it probably gave me increased headache sensitivity and mood swings in the early days, but other circumstances mean it's hard to say.

Since then though, nothing. I love that I have no period!

crossstitchingnana · 05/06/2022 10:28

I had constant bleeding and mood swings. Came off it when I came close to pushing someone down the stairs.

MushyPeasPrincess · 05/06/2022 14:27

Hated it. Lasted 2 months and had to quit. Was such a low mood and terrible cramps, with practically non stop bleeding.

Got a coil, fabulous. Had a much lighter period for a few months then nothing. I'd go coil every time.

CaptainBeakyandhisband · 05/06/2022 14:32

I am on a cerazette derivative whilst waiting for my coil to be retrieved and replaced, and have been for the last 5 months or so. It is the third time I’ve been on a POP in my life and I’ve reacted differently each time. The first time my mood became very unstable and ultimately I switched back. The second time I came off because of migraine on the CP and stayed on it for about a year and found it to be fabulous. This time I am a little moody overall and hoping to come off it again soon. I will be glad to go back to being on the coil (even though changing my current one has been problematic).

lickenchugget · 05/06/2022 14:34

I was on it for years and years with no issues, but after going back on it after having DC, I had non-stop bleeding and severe anxiety. It’s horrendous. I’ve give up with it.

RicStar · 05/06/2022 14:34

I had it fine for a few years between kids but after dc3 for some reason it turned me into an absolutely crazy person, short tempered, weepy, bleeding all the time. I got a copper coil which I have had for two years and I like it, do get some break through bleeding occasionally, my regular periods are no heavier than pre coil luckily.

WorryMcGee · 05/06/2022 14:51

Cerazette made me constantly spot/bleed, tearful, even more anxious than usual and irritable. It was an effective contraceptive because my then boyfriend broke up with me due to my behaviour 😂😂😂 despite the side effects it did me a favour

I couldn’t get on with any hormonal contraception really and had a copper coil fitted in the end - turned out to be the best option for me despite me being anti for years (I’m not sure why)

ArtichokeAardvark · 05/06/2022 14:59

It's the most effective contraceptive I've ever tried, largely because if my husband even attempted to initiate sex I'd rage at him and flounce off to the spare room. I stuck it out for 3 months, got horrendous skin, mood swings, headaches, the works. I couldn't bear it any longer than that.

TheGriffle · 05/06/2022 15:04

I love it. I had to go on it during the first lockdown, my implant ran out in June 2020 so they offered me pill as an alternative while they weren’t doing implants.

I love it, no issues and no periods and I’ve kept the pill rather than have another implant put in at the minute. I haven’t noticed any changes but I believe it’s the same hormones as in the implant which is what I’ve been on for 6 years so my bodies probably used to it.

skytoronto · 05/06/2022 15:12

I was on it about 10 years ago and it's honestly put my off hormonal BC for ife. Depressed, fat, anxious and angry. Bleurgh.

SummerSazz · 05/06/2022 15:26

Cerazette seems to be completely marmite from all I've read. I was absolutely fine on it for 10 years but others have reacted badly. Not sure why but it's definitely a 'thing'!

Redannie118 · 05/06/2022 15:37

Cerazette turned me into an absolute monster with zero sex drive. The impact it had on my MH was utterly horrific to the point that I was contemplating suicide. It makes me so angry that doctors just expect you to live your life in the blackest pit of Hell just to stop you getting pregnant and totally ignore you even when you tell them.

CoreyTaylorsbiggestfan · 05/06/2022 15:45

I ended up feeling suicidal and planning my own suicide on cerezette. I would never take any form of contraceptive again. I'm so scared it may happen again. I had been on the pill for 8 years before this and they changed me to cerezette as they had stopped making my pill x

Multicolouredsequins · 05/06/2022 15:48

It gave me awful pmt symptoms and paranoia.

UpToMyElbowsInDiapers · 05/06/2022 15:50

emmathedilemma · 05/06/2022 09:46

It was the 12 weeks of constant bleeding that did it for me!!

Me too! Ultimately neither hormonal birth control nor the copper coil worked out for me, so DH got the snip. No more contraception now. It’s marvellous!

Antares444 · 07/06/2022 14:11

I had a horrible experience with this pill. I have really bad, heavy periods so it was prescribed to prevent excessive bleeding. The first week was pure hell. I fell into a depressive mood, so bad I literally wanted to die. I felt I was going crazy: pressure in my head, terrible sadness, dizziness, insomnia and dark thoughts. I remember crying and telling my husband I didn't want to live anymore, he freaked out and called the GP and she said I should stop taking it immediately. Two days later I was completely fine, back to my usual self. I swore I would never, ever take any similar medication again!! I rather suffer the heavy periods.

BusterGonad · 08/06/2022 13:14

I first took it after having my son (safe to use during breast feeding) and I loved it. I stayed beautifully slim and loved not having periods. The only downside is tender boobs and spotting if you take it late or miss a pill. I stopped talking it for about 2 years as the country I lived in didn't have it, restarted a year ago. I wish I could say I was still lovely and slim but the past few years haven't been kind! 😂 It's still my favourite pill though. I took some horrendous ones in the 2 year gap. One made me bleed for 2 weeks non stop. I think my mood is quite stable on them.
