What could this strange ailment be?

On Friday I drove for 6h with air con on (had small DS in back who really feels heat) and when I got home I felt absolutely rotten. This then progressed into feeling freezing cold and shivering and having to curl up under a blanket with two jumpers on. Didn't want to eat anything and went to bed. All night kept waking up shivering and couldn't work up the energy to take painkillers. All my joints were really hurting especially my back/hips and my hands. Saturday morning finally got up and took some paracetamol which made me break out in a sweat and suddenly boiling but able to sleep. Slept all day Saturday but each time painkillers wore off I was freezing cold. I have the joint aches still but no other symptoms, no sore throat, no cough or cold symptoms. I've done 3 covid tests and all negative.

Basically all I want to do is sleep and I'm either boiling hot (when I take painkillers) or freezing cold (when they wear off) but I don't have a temp.

Any idea what this could be?

Sounds like covid to me and you're just not testing positive.

CheesusTheSaviour · 01/05/2022 08:19

A virus

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/05/2022 08:21

Just sounds like a bug. Take painkillers and lots of fluid and hopefully it'll pass soon.

KangarooKenny · 01/05/2022 08:22

A virus or flu.

BeyondMyWits · 01/05/2022 08:23

Sounds like covid to me too. My colleagues and I all had those symptoms (had to test for work) 3 out of 10 never tested positive. 7 of us did.

nearlyspringyay · 01/05/2022 08:24

A cold

12BottlesOfVintageChampagne · 01/05/2022 08:29

Legionnaires?

timeforteanow · 01/05/2022 09:08

Covid. Exact same symptoms. I tested negative on lateral flows all week, but my pcr was positive. Hope you are feeling better soon

StageRage · 01/05/2022 09:11

Flu

MrsLargeEmbodied · 01/05/2022 09:11

sounds like it could have come from the air con

MrsLargeEmbodied · 01/05/2022 09:12

but google says water needs to be involved and so car air con would not cause legionnaires

jazzyoldjim · 01/05/2022 10:05

I wondered if it was the Aircon. Aircon always tends to give me a cold but this is definitely not a cold. Feel so achey and my head is thumping.

Sounds like you’ve got a virus. And the drive is likely to be completely unrelated.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 01/05/2022 10:11

you can pick up mould from air con
whatever it is i hope you recover quickly

FixTheBone · 01/05/2022 14:39

Sounds like flu, unlikely to be covid with a stack of negative tests.

mackthepony · 01/05/2022 14:41

I'd DS sick too?

jazzyoldjim · 01/05/2022 14:54

Nope, nobody else is sick.
Now my chest has developed a very slight crackle so thinking maybe chest infection incoming.

i cant imagine 6 hours of air conditioning is healthy

jazzyoldjim · 01/05/2022 15:59

@MrsLargeEmbodied well no. It was meant to be a 3h journey, we have a 5month old so we stopped halfway but then there was a big crash on the M5 and we were stuck for ages so needs must.

Why? We used to live in a really hot country where we had our air con on practically full time. It was too hot to do anything else. I’m still alive.

Eh? Shops/ drivers/ hotel workers/ office workers to name just a few have air con environments and are perfectly healthy.

ReadyToMoveIt · 01/05/2022 16:29

People all over the world spend hours every day in air conditioned environments. This thread is weird.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 01/05/2022 18:01

no my mistake evidently,
but the car air conditioning is perhaps different to office air con

NormalForNuneaton · 01/05/2022 18:06

My first thought was that it's to do with the aircon.

Have you (ever) had it serviced, re-gassed or whatever it is that you're supposed to do?

(I say that as someone who has never had theirs done but I know that you should apparently)

Hugasauras · 01/05/2022 18:07

Just sounds like a virus, not necessarily Covid, there are plenty of others! Sounds rotten though so take it easy!
