I've lost the weight (pretty much) and now my goal is to tone up what I"ve got and really get fit in 2008. I was running until last summer when an achilles injury put paid to that for months, and I haven't started anything else.

So I'm starting this thread to state my training goals and to help me stick to them.

  1. Running 3 times a week, 5km a time by mid February (think that this should be achievable with a gradual and slow build up over six weeks)
  1. Walking EVERYWHERE this year: no more nursery runs in the car because we haven't left enough time, only exceptions being pelting rain. Walking to shops, walking to a from nursery, walking to and from parents etc etc. The problem with this is that I have an appointment twice a week, that I can't really get to in the time by walking, I'd like to aim to run to this by say March (it's a five mile run and I'd have to do it pretty fast in order to make it).
  1. Some kind of weight training programme and sits ups to tone arms and stomach. Something short that I do every day, looking for advice, pointers to websites for this please. We have a set of dumbells at home for this.
  1. Dancing once a week. Mars, I'm going to come to salsa, am determined, and would really like to do a dance class once a week.

All of this should increase my fitness levels and lose me that stubborn last few pounds.

Anyone care to join me?

I won't join you just yet because DC4 is due in May but I did a running programme this spring and built up to 5k twice a week within 8 weeks, so yes, your goal is perfectly achievable. Good luck with it. It feels so good once you get stuck into it. I ran until I was 16 weeks pregnant and now I'm really missing it.

I'll join you in the Autumn if my breast-feeding norks aren't too heavy.

Heathcliffscathy · 27/12/2007 18:03

duchess hi where did you get your running programme from?

OP posts:
TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 27/12/2007 18:14

You can download running plans from lots of charity running sites. Mine was from the Race for Life site - there is a download on this page. It's also a great incentive to keep at the running if you enter a race.

I was quite fit, so I fasttracked my training plan.

cheapslutonjunk · 27/12/2007 18:15

I'm in. I might even say who I am one day

dinny · 27/12/2007 18:32

I'm in, Sophable, have been sporadically running - usually run 3-5 miles when I do, but need to make it more regular!

I remember this weights programme by Jorge Cruise - 8 mins in the morning, will try and find link!

what time of day do you plan to run?

Heathcliffscathy · 27/12/2007 18:35

Did a 20 minute run this evening. Would've gone further but my ears were cold and sore! Must get a hat. But then I'll be way too hot. Damn.

dinny · 28/12/2007 11:09

thanks, Sophable

I ran 3 miles yesterday pm at my break at work. but then when I got home I drank 3/4 bottle of white wine and ate too many chocolates - oops! still, it IS Christmas!

OrmIrian · 28/12/2007 11:18

I'm in. I'm OK with the running - well once I'm over this cough. But I do need to do some upper body training of some sort > as everything about the waist seems to be disintegrating.

Kerri28 · 28/12/2007 20:23

Heathcliffscathy · 28/12/2007 20:46

I might exercise vicariously through you sophable .

I'd love to say I'm going to do it but in reality, I never get round to it . Will try and make an effort from Jan onwards because I've noticed that I've not been doing any exercise at all for the last few months.

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 28/12/2007 22:10

jofeb04 · 29/12/2007 08:47

I'm in.
Not running though, SPD may have something to do with though!

But, hoping to go:

  1. Gym twice a week
  2. Swimming once a week
  3. Pilates once a week (class)
  4. Also, walking everywhere - to nursery and shops etc.
dinny · 29/12/2007 12:53

I'm going for a run later today - well, am going to try! anyone else?

Heathcliffscathy · 29/12/2007 17:46

OP posts:
Heathcliffscathy · 29/12/2007 17:47

go for it dinny, in fact you're right...starting in the New Year is wronged up, I'll try and go tomorrow....

OP posts:
OrmIrian · 29/12/2007 19:49

I think that there is something so sad about doing something because it's the New Year. Just setting yourself up to fail really. I hate New Year - it feels cold and dismal and a bit scary, and I don't need any more miserable things to worry about. So I will be running asap - doesn't take much resolution as I love it - but not just yet. I still can't walk for more than 100yds without coughing up important bits of my respiratory system

Sidge · 29/12/2007 22:28

I have been a complete oink over Christmas, but am back on the good girl wagon tomorrow! Shall go to the gym in the morning and then try and go 2-3 times a week thereafter, like I was doing until November

CountessDraculaboredofxmasname · 31/12/2007 14:50

CountessDracula · 31/12/2007 15:06

Not a hobby
A night out!

My mum stays on Thursdays and we always end up going out and gorging ourselves or getting pissed
So decided to go dancing instead

Will try salsa
and go clubbing too

I love dancing and so does he
Not sure salsa will be for us as he can be a bit of a malco...
