Bottom problem

NC for this for obvious reasons...

So for a couple of months now, my anus keeps getting sore and itchy, often a bit worse when I've been to the loo, and I think there's been a couple of tiny fissures at times which hurt but then heal quickly. It feels like it's burning a little bit internally sometimes but then the feeling passes. Nothing visible on the outside, no piles or anything.

I know I have HPV as confirmed positive at my last smear test. I'm now freaking out and thinking I have anal cancer. I'm quite young- 30ish- is it that likely? Or could it be something like internal warts (gross).

I know I need to go to the doctors. I can only go if I can see a female doctor though.

Should I go to my GP's or to the sexual health clinic in case it it warts or something? I know I sound fucking stupid but I don't know what to do and thought of the sexual health clinic too as I've found them to be great.

Are they going to be able to take a proper look up there, there and then? Do they have the necessary 'equipment'? Or will I have to go to hospital? Again this is pathetic but the thought of a doctor looking at my arsehole is horrific and I'd be delighted if I could hopefully go through it on just the one occasion.

I don't know why I'm posting, just feeling scared and perhaps needing a kick up my broken bum. If anyone could reassure me that it's likely to be something far less sinister that would also be fab.

Could it be threadworms?

OhFFSwhynow · 17/01/2022 13:08

I don't think so ikl as I've had them in the past (thanks kids) and that feels very different.

I'd be delighted to have threadworms right now 😂

You can get internal as well as external piles. I have a had a couple of GP appointments with my similar bottom problems and the GP did do the finger up the bum thing.

Have you tried suppositories as they have a local anaesthetic effect? Germoloid cream also has local anaesthetic in it

OhFFSwhynow · 17/01/2022 13:23

I've not tried suppositories pixie- tbh I thought that if I tried that they'd maybe just mask a more serious problem. Plus there's the fissures... is there some kind of irritation making tiny fissures more likely?

I don't really care about it if I can see a female doctor tbh- I could handle that, but I'd just like it to all be done and no hospital trips... plus at the hospital are they likely to have female arse doctors?

God this is horrible, there's a million things I'd have rather had. I've had colposcopies and my fanny examined loads for that but this feels way worse.

OP posts:
OhFFSwhynow · 17/01/2022 13:29

I could cope with the finger up the bum I reckon or whatever it needs to be but I'm scared of going along for the first appointment, where it only needs to be me and one doctor- and it not being able to be fixed there and then and having to go to hospital and having my arse prodded and poked by a roomful of people. And also scared there aren't female doctors in that department.

Should have said as well, bowels are normal, there's no blood. They wouldn't want to shove a camera up there, would they?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 17/01/2022 13:29

I had a female GP. Can you not request a female GP when you contact them?

OhFFSwhynow · 17/01/2022 13:30

I can do pixie, it should be easy to see a female at my GP's but it's if they send me to the hospital I'm worried.

I know I'm daft. I've been putting off doing something about it for this reason though.

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 17/01/2022 13:31

I haven't been to the hospital but have been referred there as I still have pain and bleeding. Have had to do a couple of poop tests that I handed back to the GP. Now I have to see what happens next.

OhFFSwhynow · 17/01/2022 13:32

Good luck pixie, I hope all is well with you 🤞

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 17/01/2022 13:32

I doubt they'd send you straight to the hospital.

Dillydollydingdong · 17/01/2022 13:34

I get itchy there occasionally. I use Savlon and it goes. Germoloids cream is specially made for this. I think the signs of something serious are pain inside the abdomen, bleeding and weight loss. You might not even need an examination if you haven't got those symptoms. Just be brave OP.

OhFFSwhynow · 17/01/2022 13:35

It's just where it feels sore inside, kind of an itchy/burning feeling, almost tingly, are they going to be able to properly check what's causing it?

That's why I wondered about the sexual health clinic in case it's related to me having HPV- maybe internal warts or something?

OP posts:
cultkid · 17/01/2022 13:37

I know this sounds obvious but are you wiping your bum properly? Use wet wipes to be certain. My kids get sore bum when they don't wipe it properly.
Could also be thrush, you could try some thrush treatment
If no digestive symptoms it's maybe more likely to be like piles, thrush or not wiping xx

cultkid · 17/01/2022 13:37

Do you have any reasons to think it could be warts on your bottom? Have you had a look with a mirror

Flingingmelon · 17/01/2022 13:38

Liberal amounts of anusol, lots of fibre and lots and lots of water.

See how you feel in three to fives days. If there's no improvement definitely the doctor.

Beloved DS gifted me with this when I had him. If I don't keep properly hydrated it comes back.

OhFFSwhynow · 17/01/2022 13:38

Thank you dilly. I'm just worried that because I have HPV, I'm higher risk for it being anal cancer or something sinister like that.

I'd like to see the lovely non scary female doctor I saw last time at the GUM clinic, have her take a proper look there and then and anything serious be ruled out.

I know I'm a baby and need to woman up.

OP posts:
gamerchick · 17/01/2022 13:42

The gum clinic isn't going to examine your arsehole OP.

You're overreacting a bit, I know it's easy to get caught up and overthink things. What you're describing is unlikely to be serious. Make an appointment with your GP.

OhFFSwhynow · 17/01/2022 13:42

@cultkid I've looked and all looks fine on the outside- I was thinking maybe it's internal warts due to the weird tingly/burning/itching feeling inside and the fact that I know I have HPV which causes warts. think it's definitely something related to the actual bumhole itself as well rather than bowels as bowels seem to be fine.

It's just a really irritating/irritated arsehole basically!

OP posts:
SummerHouse · 17/01/2022 13:44

You are not being a baby. You are thinking way ahead of yourself. Get booked in at GPs right now. I would place money on this being piles. With no other symptoms I am thinking the finger up the bum will be it. You can do this. Don't think about any steps beyond this first one as there likely won't be any.

OhFFSwhynow · 17/01/2022 13:45

@gamerchick considering they get people who have genital or anal warts (which I know I'm higher risk for) if have thought they'd be used to looking at bums a bit as well?

Thanks for the reassurance on it not being serious, I do need to hear it. But believe me I've been trying not to overreact and have been leaving this since October hoping it would magically disappear and it hasn't. And it's so out of the norm for me. Multiple pregnancies and not a single pile. Maybe this is my payback now.

OP posts:
OhFFSwhynow · 17/01/2022 13:46

Do piles actually give an itchy/irritated/burnt/tingly feeling?

OP posts:
Flingingmelon · 17/01/2022 13:46

Yes!

cultkid · 17/01/2022 13:48

I didn't know HPV caused warts, sorry I'm so ignorant I should have googled before asking you. Yes I would go to the GUM clinic about this since HPV is a sexually transmitted disease isn't it? Ofcourse they look at bums at the sexual health clinic! It's just if it's not a sexual health thing then are you going to ultimately have to show your GP too?

I would try the thrush treatment for it

How long has it been like this xx

hamper555 · 17/01/2022 13:48

Google Pruritus Ani. If the symptoms are similar, I found a cream online that was expensive but magic!

OhFFSwhynow · 17/01/2022 13:50

That's very helpful to know!

It did cross my mind if maybe working from home and literally sitting on my arse all day could cause piles.... but the HPV makes me bloody scared it will be cancer. I e had multiple colposcopies and LLETZ treatment on my cervix for grade 2 dysplasia and my body never seems to clear the HPV. I think that knowledge makes me more concerned.
