He gave me sleeping tablets today leaflet inside says adults 7.5, elderly 3.75

I look on my label 3.75!

Elderly starts a lot younger than I thought!

I wouldn’t assume he thought you were elderly. Maybe he thought he’d start you on a lower dose? Or are you very small / petite?

PartyPrawnRingGames · 30/12/2021 21:04

When I was in hospital the nurse checked my date of birth and said oh that's weird exactly the same as my dad Xmas Shock

KatyMac · 30/12/2021 21:05

I'd love to be small petite.......well my bike is 26 I'm some sort of albino spider - spindly legs and a big fat belly!

You are almost certainly right as I haven't had sleeping pills before

But the company needs ro work on its phrasing!!GrinWinkConfused

The GP has started you on a lower, safer dose.
I am a 57 yr old GP
When I was in my 20’s elderly patients where over 60 - now they are over 90. 😉

BeLessMe · 30/12/2021 21:06

Zopiclone?
I’ve had it since I was 44 and I’m prescribed 3.75. I wouldn’t make the assumption my Dr thought I was old.

Im assuming it’s because they don’t want me to be in a coma, I’m quite thin and they don’t want me totally addicted.

KatyMac · 30/12/2021 21:06

Bike=BMI!

@PartyPrawnRingGames ouch!

OP posts:
KatyMac · 30/12/2021 21:13

@BeLessMe right now coma sounds good 7 hrs sleep in the last 72....

@LunaTheCat, thanks 90 sounds much more elderly

It's just the leaflet I guess

I think with sleeping tablets they prefer to start with a lower dose and increase as necessary, so you aren't taking more than you need.

CottonSock · 30/12/2021 21:33

I'm a long term insomniac and your dose of zopiclone is a good starting point. It usually works on me

KatyMac · 30/12/2021 21:37

Thanks tbh I am hoping one or two nights will break the spell and I'll go back to my 9+ hours a night and a nap after lunch.....fingers crossed

OP posts:
DontKeepTheFaith · 30/12/2021 21:41

Best practice to start at lowest dose. Zopiclone is only a short term measure though, it,is unlikely to have the same benefit if you take it longer term.

Insomnia is horrendous, you have my sympathies💐

Diditopknot · 30/12/2021 21:41

Cheek!!
Elderly at 53 my arse!

Diditopknot · 30/12/2021 21:42

Forgot to add… Shock and Grin

KatyMac · 31/12/2021 09:41

But on the other hand I slept about 1ish to about 9ish

I would have pad good money for that or sacrificed something to a new god.....

OP posts:
SandingWithMyUnshavenLegs · 31/12/2021 09:43

This is definitely not because they think you are elderly. It is because sleeping tablets should be prescribed at the lowest effective dose. I hope you get some rest x

KatyMac · 31/12/2021 10:06

Thanks @SandingWithMyUnshavenLegs I do feel more human

I'm off on my bike in a bit as I haven't done any exercise in weeks as I felt so odd/woosy

TheCreamCaker · 31/12/2021 11:14

My GP told me I'm elderly! I'm 62, and when I was a bit indignant about her saying that, she apologised and said 65 is what the medical profession class as elderly

NailSaloon · 31/12/2021 11:18

I am glad I didn't get prescribed sleeping tablets, I would be dead, I needed a sleep study and another test not sleeping tablets.

CovidPassQuestion · 31/12/2021 11:21

Ha! I took DD for a blood test, and the GP tried to offer me a second vaccine dose they had spare...about three weeks after my age group had finally been allowed a first dose!
I was accompanying a smallish child- how old did he think I was? Confused

ok I look haggard tbf

KatyMac · 31/12/2021 13:01

@CovidPassQuestion oops

@NailSaloon I've had an mri, blood test & other tests

@TheCreamCaker that's only 9 years away!

OP posts:
TheCreamCaker · 01/01/2022 03:28

KatyMac · 02/01/2022 16:36

Elderly starts a lot younger than I thought!

"Adults" is probably shorthand for "adult males" as is standard for a lot of medication. They only changed women's recommended dosage for ambien rather recently as well, from 10 to 5 mg. I tend to now ask explicitly with pretty much everything I'm prescribed. And yes, it sucks and there's simply no excuse.
MaryinEaling · 02/01/2022 16:49

In clinical trials we consider elderly to be 65+ so no, you are definitely not elderly. Regulatory guidance also says the same.
