Half hour ago I opened small pot of chicken paste /Ham and put in sandwich, as soon as I swollowed it, the aftertaste was horrendous, now I’m so worried as it didn’t have a seal on it , I’ve smelt it and it stinks , I’ve drunk two small bottles of water to try and dilute the mouthful I ate, the smell is nothing I’ve ever smelt before like a strong liquid smell, how didn’t I notice this before I ate it, I’m immune compromised and worried, I’m going to be drinking my weight in water to try and get rid of whatever it was, has anyone ever had this happen to them, I feel so bloody stupid

You’ll be fine, you didn’t eat that much. Don’t drink too much water, you’ll end up with an electrolyte imbalance and be at risk of serious issues. Drinking lots of water won’t do anything. I’m sure you’ll be fine OP.

BoodleBug51 · 29/12/2021 21:54

I find anything like that smells once you've initially opened it.

That amount won't hurt, but like the PP said, go easy on the water.

dementedpixie · 29/12/2021 21:56

I doubt one mouthful will do any harm. Drinking lots of water won't really help

Lightstoobright · 29/12/2021 21:59

Your body will probably naturally reject it by being sick if it's going to cause you harm

Mamabear12 · 29/12/2021 23:02

One time I did the same with Milk. It actually had chunks in it. I did not realise. MY sister gave me it and didnt realise. I took a big drink of it. It was sour. Thankfully, I was fine. But even more, thankfully, I did not worry about it. I have emetaphobia, but for some reason, it did not cross my mind it could make me ill. Now I would freak. Hoping you are fine. I am sure you wil lbe.

Rivermonsters · 30/12/2021 00:15

Can you check the date of the item? It’ll be ok OP

Xmasiscancelledagain · 30/12/2021 00:20

I thought these paste things generally tasted and smelt a bit rank?

If it is off/doesn't agree with you, you'd probably vomit it back up swiftly.

What good would having lots of water do?

Yes maybe it is the same as 'ham fart'
Starcup · 30/12/2021 00:58

For the sake of one mouthful op I’m sure you’ll be fine. I’ve eaten mouldy rolls, out of date yogurts, reheated rice and stuff that I wonder if it was even cooked properly in the first place and I’ve always been fine.

If you’d scoffed the jar, my answer would be different….

Update, my dr wanted me to have urgent blood tests today due to the fact this had happened and I have couple of chronic illnesses I don’t think she would order a blood test if she thought it was not necessary, yes I would have thought if anything un toward you would possibly vomit or have diarrhoea but not necessarily straight away I was told, could take few days or longer, it seems incredible that wouldn’t happen after eating, but I’m no medical expert, I was also advised to drink lots of water,

SmolCat · 30/12/2021 23:10

The dr is ordering urgent blood tests based on the fact you ate one mouthful of (potentially) gone off food??

What are they expecting the blood tests to show?

GreenLunchBox · 30/12/2021 23:12

Yeah, I'm interested to know which blood tests can show food poisoning as soon as you've eaten something a bit dodgy

dinahsdishes · 30/12/2021 23:16

You called the dr because you ate a small mouthful of something that might have been off? Presumably they're testing the product too?

A stool sample seems more likely than a blood test- what are they testing for?

HalloHello · 30/12/2021 23:27

What blood test are they doing?!

catfunk · 30/12/2021 23:28

what are the blood tests for? are you in the UK?

TrashyPanda · 30/12/2021 23:30

What are they testing for?

HalloHello · 30/12/2021 23:31

Also how have you spoken to Dr already 1 hour after posting here at 10pm?

CambsAlways · 30/12/2021 23:34

Yes afraid so, as I said I have chronic illness whereby I have blood tests every 8 weeks throughout my life since being diagnosed with rare liver disease, no haven’t been asked for stool sample, she just said to get the blood tests done ASAP, will update when I know more, presumably if was in good health maybe I wouldn’t have been told to go for blood tests , who knows,

CambsAlways · 30/12/2021 23:36

What are you going on about have I spoken to the dr already one hour after posting here at 10pm , if you read the post initially you will find it happened last night , I contacted my own GP this morning!!!! She told me I needed urgent blood tests asap

Oh hang on... it’s not midnight yet, there was a 24 hour lag between messages.

Apologies OP, if I’ve jumped to conclusions incorrectly.

CambsAlways · 30/12/2021 23:43

Trying to post pic of the blood test for the doubters to see as I don’t lie

NatriumChloride · 30/12/2021 23:47

They’re not really urgent blood tests OP. Seems like they’re just routine monitoring tests. More importantly, how are you feeling?

deadlanguage · 30/12/2021 23:47

Are those the same as your regular blood tests? Of all those only CRP would possibly show if you’d been infected with something and it’s just a general inflammation marker
