Worried sick this is Melanoma please help

I have had a hard pea sized lump on my upper chest area for about a year now. It's slowly got bigger.
It feels firm to touch and like a hard pea under my skin.
I saw my GP about it a few months ago and he took a look by eye and said it was a Dermatofibroma. I looked online and it does look like that.
But I can't help but worry it's something sinister and after googling I've worried myself sick it's Nodular Melanoma 😫

I'm awaiting an appointment with a private Dermatologist but I am beside myself with worry in the meantime.
I've attached some photos.
🥺

I have malignant melanoma and am currently having treatment for it.If your gp isn’t worried and is happy with his diagnosis then I’m sure you’ll be fine. It’s good you are going to see a dermatologist as they can quickly put your mind at ease. Google is not your friend! So try not to get too anxious 💐

AngelSings · 05/11/2021 20:46

Looks similar to my dermatofibroma.

AngelSings · 05/11/2021 20:47

Have you tried the pinch test where you pinch it and the middle puckers inwards? That's typical for a dermatofibroma.

Querty123456 · 05/11/2021 20:48

Yep looks like mine too.

LifesTooShortYOLO · 05/11/2021 20:49

Looks similar to my dermatofibroma.
Really? Does yours feel hard under the skin? Like a little pea under your skin when you press on it?

Yep looks like mine too.
Your Dermatofibroma?

I have dermatofibroma on my legs ( few of them) and they look exactly like that. It's what I thought it was as soon as I saw your pics.

AngelSings · 05/11/2021 20:52

Mine is hard like a stone. Also typical for a derma. Had it diagnosed by my dermatologist a while ago.

liveforsummer · 05/11/2021 20:53

I have a lot of moles so always keeping an eye. This doesn't look like any example of melanoma I've seen.

Happymum12345 · 05/11/2021 20:53

I am absolutely no expert, but I’ve been a real worrier about this sort of thing in the past & seen drs and dermatologist etc. I agree with the above post, if the dr isn’t worried, you shouldn’t be either. It’s round, not jagged etc, not bleeding. All the best with dermatologist.

LifesTooShortYOLO · 05/11/2021 20:56

Oh thank you to everyone who's commented you've reassured me slightly ☺️
Others who have said they have Derma's would you say they feel like they are below the skin also as well as the dome on the top of the skin?

Mine started off small below the skin but is now bigger and a dome mostly on top of it.

I’m so glad I’ve read this thread, I have a lump on my lower leg that I’ve had for 10 years. I’ve seen 3 GP’s who have said they have no idea what it is but they don’t think it’s sinister. Anyway I’ve just googled dermatofibroma and my lump looks like a textbook one. So thanks OP!

LifesTooShortYOLO · 05/11/2021 23:20

Thanks for the replies. Can those of you with a Dermatofibroma share a photo of it please? X

DramaAlpaca · 05/11/2021 23:28

Thanks from me too! I've a couple of these on my legs and now I know what they are. I'd already been reassured by a dermatologist but he didn't tell me what they were other than harmless.

Momof2boys1girl · 05/11/2021 23:29

It’s definitely at dermatofibroma. I had one and had it removed a couple of months ago because it was annoying me. It looked exactly like yours, with the hard lump underneath

LifesTooShortYOLO · 06/11/2021 13:02

Can any of you share a photo of your derma please?

OP posts:
Querty123456 · 06/11/2021 14:17

Yep, identical to mine. And yes mine feels like a pea under the skin. Sometimes it’s more red other more pink. Mine was diagnosed by a dermatologist so I don’t worry about it.

Noeuf · 06/11/2021 14:20

My GP recommended an app called MiiSkin when I saw her recently. It doesn’t look like melanoma at all but obviously get things checked as you are.

MMMarmite · 06/11/2021 14:25

I'm not an expert. But it looks nothing like my melanoma, which was dark coloured (almost black) and very assymetrical.

YogaLite · 06/11/2021 17:45

I had something similar, dr didn't even want to refer me so in the end I tied a thread around it and got rid of it that way.

If it’s a derma that wouldn’t work as it’s in the second main layer of your skin, rather than the top layer.

Is it quite hard and firm?
OP posts:
candle18 · 07/11/2021 23:25

I thought dermatofibroma as soon as I saw the picture. I’ve had a few and this is exactly what they are like.

LifesTooShortYOLO · 08/11/2021 09:49

Thanks for those who have replied.
It's horrible waiting my mind is thinking all sorts.
I'm hoping to hear from the Dermatologist today to book an appointment.
It seems like Dermatofibromas are quite common I've not ever spoken to anyone who knows what they are let alone has one.
What colour is everyone's derma? Is it pink red like mine?
