Excuse horrible photos. I know GP attention/ see medical professional yet haven’t managed to get through to GP last few days. My throat has been like this for a week, very painful to eat, drink swallow. Just wondered if it looks like tonsillitis? Viral? I know to seek medical :(

Ummm not obviously, I’m not a medical professional but serial sufferer of tonsillitis

rainbowandglitter · 05/10/2021 21:26

I wouldn't say so. I'm not a doctor but suffer a lot with tonsillitis.

User5827372728 · 05/10/2021 21:27

@rainbowandglitter

Same, it’s so shite isn’t it

NewNameADayKeepsSpiesAtBay · 05/10/2021 21:29

Not in my opinion, can’t see any white spots - but I’m not a medical practitioner, just a mum whose kids have suffered from it dozens of times so I’m good at spotting it

lana29 · 05/10/2021 21:29

Yikes. Trying to work out what the heck it could be as it’s painful to swallow

Any chance your wisdom tooth is giving you gip? Mine tried to break through my gum every couple of months and it makes my throat ache on one side and is painful to swallow.

lana29 · 05/10/2021 21:31

Glad it’s not tonsillitis just wonder how to get rid of this pain in adams apple and the razor throat feeling! It’s mainly around eating/swallowing

Chesty cough too with green plegm

Lots of pain killers for a few days, gargle warm salty water, have you done a pcr test for your cough as people reporting sore throat with covid

lana29 · 05/10/2021 21:33

Had COVID few weeks ago, recovered slightly now this weeks later;(

I'm not a GP but no. My child has had it three times in relatively quick succession and each time there were noticeable white spots on the tonsils.

User5827372728 · 05/10/2021 21:34

Your immune system may still be down from covid, I would rest up, sleep
As much as you can, take multivitamins and vitamin D, and rest rest rest

User478 · 05/10/2021 21:37

Hard to tell without being able to see your tonsils, however if you can't open your mouth any further/swallow liquids/find it hard to talk it could be a quinsy which is an emergency.

Have you tried diflam spray so you can swallow liquids and painkillers?

Your uvula can swell up if you're really dehydrated and make it harder to swallow.

Can you get a GP appointment tomorrow? If not you might need to get a walk in appointment to get antibiotics.

Annietheacrobat · 05/10/2021 21:39

Does not look like tonsillitis. The tonsils are slightly enlarged and throat looks inflamed could be pharyngitis- i.e a viral sore throat. Paracetamol and difflam spray

I had this a few days ago hurt so much to swallow and when I did it wasn't easy I had to make an effort to. Turned into a cold :(
lana29 · 05/10/2021 21:44

I have the same symptoms as you and have been diagnosed with viral tonsillitis. I’m on day 10 and it’s pretty shit. I don’t have white spots on my tonsils, they are just very red, angry and swollen. Hope it goes away soon.

lana29 · 05/10/2021 22:17

Did they give you anything to treat or is anything helping it? Are you having pain on swallowing especially adams apple area? @Littlegoth
