What's wrong with my hand?!?

Finger started swelling this morning, and is itching because it is swelling, like when skin stretches in pregnancy.
Doesn't feel too hot but am struggling to bed finger now and between 3 ish and 5.30 it spread to my hand. I drew a line and went to see the pharmacist who said it was very strange and just to take piriton and rub some hydrocortisone on it. How long do you think it'll be until I see an improvement? Anyone got an experience of this?

My foot once looked like that after a couple of mosquito bites but I knew I’d been bitten and the bites were obvious. I’d head back to the pharmacy as soon as they open this morning if I were you.

Bellbottomstovetop · 12/06/2021 08:00

Honestly OP, grab the toddler and go to A&E. If it's cellulitis, you need antibiotics ASAP.

Needingsupportplease · 12/06/2021 08:02

Go get that looked at this morning, hope you're ok

MargaretFraggle · 12/06/2021 08:03

Get yourself to A&E OP, it hasn't gone down with piriton so could need antibiotics.

Singlenotsingle · 12/06/2021 08:05

Something's bitten you during the night. An ant, spider or something.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 12/06/2021 08:11

Another one saying not to muck about with that. Needs a medic's opinion sooner rather than later.

WeAllHaveWings · 12/06/2021 08:27

Call 111 for advice and an ooh appointment

DazzlingHaze · 12/06/2021 08:27

That looks pretty bad, OP. I'd really get that looked at. Better safe than sorry.

HollowTalk · 12/06/2021 08:30

I would get that looked at immediately. We can see the difference in those photos and it's happening very quickly.

Iloveyou3x · 12/06/2021 08:32

I’m a nurse and you need to get yourself seen ASAP.

Iloveyou3x · 12/06/2021 08:33

Leaving it another couple of hours could mean you are dangerously unwell. The difference overnight is massive. Please don’t faff around.

NerrSnerr · 12/06/2021 09:04

You need to be seen ASAP. Surely it's better to just get seen and sorted then wait until you might become seriously unwell.

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 12/06/2021 09:06

You need to go to A&E / Urgent Care

SirVixofVixHall · 12/06/2021 09:30

Agree A and E.

youOKhunn · 12/06/2021 09:32

I can't believe you haven't gone to a and e yet

WeAllHaveWings · 12/06/2021 09:34

www.nhs.uk/conditions/swollen-arms-and-hands-oedema/

At the bottom this says urgent appointment is it comes on suddenly like your or is only one hand.

queenrollo · 12/06/2021 09:37

given that they haven't posted since 8am can we give the benefit of the doubt and assume the radio silence is because they HAVE gone to A&E.

Blanketpolicy · 12/06/2021 09:57

🙄

What's wrong with my hand?!?
queenrollo · 12/06/2021 12:17

Assuming that's aimed at me Blanketpolicy

It's just really fucking boring scanning through 300 messages telling the OP to go to A&E because apparently when someone posts to mumsnet they are then expected to update every 8 mins even if nothing has changed or maybe they are busy.

Bore off.

CMSdividend · 12/06/2021 14:10

So... even bigger! Waited a few hours for a callback and now have an appointment at local a&e within an hour. Sorry haven't updated sooner, been trying to go about day as usual with one hand!

Bluntness100 · 12/06/2021 14:13

Yeah you need to see someone, I had that and it was a spider bite. Anti biotics sorted it, good luck

BeyondMyWits · 12/06/2021 14:15

Show them your progression of pictures... really good evidence throughout the day of the speed of swelling.

DogsSausages · 12/06/2021 15:14

That does look painful, good job you took your ring off. Hope you get seen and sorted quickly.
