I can’t sleep! After a couple of hours I eventually fall asleep, wake an hour later then every hour after.
Feels like this awful tickle in my bones. Has anyone any tips to help me sleep?!

I take a magnesium supplement or rub magnesium cream onto my legs. But I found that the absolute best thing ever is to invest in a percussion massager gun. Mine was £40 from Amazon. I use it on each calf and thigh for a few minutes right before bed and it works a treat at discharging that "electric ants" feeling that I hate so much. If u wake up in the night, I just try it again. I recently started on on pregablin for post shingles neuralgia and that seems to have reduced the symptoms too.

I took ibuprofen one night for a headache while I had restless legs and found it stopped that awful feeling too. It's worked the couple of times I've tried it since. Making sure my feet aren't too warm helps too.

Workinghardeveryday · 09/06/2021 22:22

My feet have been extra warm recently, maybe it’s that!
I will get a cold water bottle first if no joy I am getting the thing from Amazon. It’s driving me crazy. Electric ants is the perfect way to describe!

If you wake up with restless legs, take a paracetamol. I keep them in bedside drawer. Works for me.

GLTM · 09/06/2021 22:26

Magnesium spray helps a lot. Occasionally paracetamol. Good luck

30degreesandmeltinghere · 09/06/2021 22:26

Have you got low iron?

mrsfeatherbottom · 09/06/2021 22:30

Dried apricots works for me

NormaSnickers · 09/06/2021 22:30

Quinine is supposed to help with restless legs, it’s found in tonic water or you can get Quinine tablets.

dancealittleclosertome · 09/06/2021 22:31

Paracetamol or ibuprofen.

Hawkmoth · 09/06/2021 22:31

Get blood tests.

Duvetdweller · 09/06/2021 22:32

Terrible RLS. The only thing that works is prescribed drugs - Ropinirole from the doctor.

abstractzebra · 09/06/2021 22:34

I agree regarding Magnesium.
I also find that if I have too much sugar it seems to start it off. No science behind that though!

DuchessofDenmarkStreet · 09/06/2021 22:36

What age are you? Sounds typically peri-menopausal. Either way make sure you aren’t dehydrated and your vitamin B12 levels are ok.

RockPaperScissorLizardSpock · 09/06/2021 22:45

I agree with someone above re: iron levels. Low iron can be a cause. If you are on Facebook, there is a Restless Leg Syndrome page/group that may be able to provide some extra advice.

I love my new percussion massager too, really does improve circulation and reading this I realise my occasional restless legs before sleep haven't happened since I have started using it on my calves and feet Smile
PeriMisabastard · 09/06/2021 22:52

Orgasm. May not last all night but does take away the jumpiness for a while and is more fun than the alternative.

Magnesium helps me but I also take codeine too. Get checked for iron deficiency too /take iron & vitamin c supplements

Thebookswereherfriends · 09/06/2021 22:53

Ibuprofen gel rubbed into the calves helps mine.

Mzy123 · 09/06/2021 22:54

Let us know if it works.

GreenTeaPingPong · 09/06/2021 22:55

I've had this in the past and it improved a lot after I took iron supplements.

LucysSkyDiamonds · 09/06/2021 22:57

Does anyone get rls in their thighs and arms too? I usually feel like I'm full of static and have to walk around shaking my arms and kicking my legs.

Workinghardeveryday · 09/06/2021 23:02

Had paracetamol, leaving legs and feet out the covers.
I get my bloods done every 3 months and am always low on iron and take prescribed supplements. I think I will up the dose and try magnesium.
Will let you know tomorrow if paracetamol works!
Thank you all

I have one of those gel cool pads at the bottom of the bed to keep my feet cool.
I also sleep with a leg pillow.
