I can’t sleep! After a couple of hours I eventually fall asleep, wake an hour later then every hour after.
Feels like this awful tickle in my bones. Has anyone any tips to help me sleep?!

@abstractzebra yes I’ve also noticed that eating sugary food makes it worse.

The specialist I saw said take magnesium which I find helps a lot.
Also losing weight.

Workinghardeveryday · 10/06/2021 18:13

Went to sleep fine last night! Can only have been paracetamol.
I am going to get magnesium supplement, do you think tablets, cream or spray?!

I think heat awakens the electric ants. Been so much worse this week as it’s been really warm upstairs, taking Cold water bottle to bed!

Not sure to be honest, I use paracetamol when I need it but like you have low iron levels. Glad it worked out for you.

Greenmarmalade · 10/06/2021 20:02

Drinking more water weirdly helps mine

DinosaurDiana · 10/06/2021 20:02

Tonic water.

Workinghardeveryday · 10/06/2021 22:28

It’s driving me crazy and haven’t gone to bed yet!! Don’t want to have to take paracetamol every night, need to order the magnesium

Definitely magnesium, I take 2 tablets a day and it mostly makes it go away.

I find mine is triggered by too much cheese, alcohol and stress - I worked this out after realising I always had really painful restless legs on the drive home from FIL's house. Go figure!

Ylvamoon · 10/06/2021 22:34

I came here to suggest magnesium.
Also, being more active seems to help. But that could simply be because I am more tried.

drspouse · 10/06/2021 22:36

I use a video by Doctor Jo on YouTube. Works well.

MoonCatcher · 10/06/2021 22:38

Every night - Oral magnesium. Bad night's - Paracetamol and ibuprofen, I use the long lasting ibuprofen.

ladygindiva · 10/06/2021 22:40

My mum gets this and swears a paracetamol helps.

Liamandlee · 10/06/2021 22:53

My mam gets this I soak her feet and legs in a bucket of warm water and pour 100% magnesium flakes in before bed. She also takes magnesium supplement and spray if needed during the night. X

Omg I am in so much pain with this right now
I literally am sat swinging my leg back and forth. It's excruciating. I saw the doc yesterday who just focused on my pins and needles in my hands and never mentioned what I can do for my RLS
The pain is unreal

lazylinguist · 16/06/2021 11:18

Watch out with the magnesium supplements though. They can have a laxative effect (some take them for constipation), and can cause major stomach problems in some people. I spent months thinking I had a major food intolerance or gynaecological issue. Eventually twigged it was my magnesium supplement! Stopped taking it and am now fine. It gave my DM massive vomiting and diarrhoea. I tried the spray, but same problem.

LucysSkyDiamonds · 16/06/2021 12:25

That's interesting, lazylinguist, I found the supplements make me really nauseous too. And I get incredibly vivid stress dreams Confused

candycane222 · 17/06/2021 07:59

I spent two hours tensing and stretching my arms in the warm bedroom the other night. Misery. Wend down and lay on the sofa in the cool living room downstairs. Instant relief. So heat deffo one of my triggers. It's so weird isn't it? Wish someone coukd explain why it happens. Probably yet another thing that women get more than men and so has never been taken very seriously :(

LunaNorth · 17/06/2021 08:07

Mine have improved hugely since I stopped drinking alcohol.

I also take a magnesium supplement, and a perimenopause supplement, which seem to have helped.

I still get them occasionally, and when I do only Solpadeine will cut it.

I sympathise, OP. RLS is the absolute pits.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 17/06/2021 09:40

I get RLS when my iron levels are low so I start taking supplements again.

Brazil nuts contain high levels of Magnesium (DH has stopped getting cramp in his legs at night since including them in his diet) for those who struggle with the supplements.

I take magnesium glycinate orally which doesn't affect my stomach. Iron supplements and keeping hydrated also help me. I have been experiencing restless legs since my 20s.
I empathise with all of you. It is rubbish!
