Candida diet - looking for advice and support

Hello, does anyone out there have any (positive) experience with the Candida diet? I seem to be riddled with thrush Sad. It's been coming and going for the past 18 months or so, flaring up whenever I get a bit run down or tired (which is most of the time tbh). Topical treatments hold it at bay for a bit but aren't shifting it. I wonder whether a strict elimination diet might be needed to break the cycle, but I'm feeling pretty miserable about the prospect, because it sounds expensive, faffy and really bloody boring! I'd be really grateful to anyone able to share their experiences and any tips. Thank you.

Cut out alcohol and sugar and take a food probiotic. I have read that two teaspoons of cider vinegar a day help clear it up too. Basically yeast and sugar feed it so you need to eliminate them.
It would probably help to see a nutritionist for advice too.

Thanks. I very rarely drink anyway but there is far too much processed sugar in my diet at the moment, so that's a good place to start. I'm thinking I might cut things out in stages rather than trying to dive in all at once.

Low carbing gets rid of it very quickly.

Ninkanink · 07/06/2021 20:21

It’s actually much, much easier to go cold turkey. You might suffer with intense cravings/‘carb flu’ for a few days up to a week but it will ease after that and you will be amazed how much better you feel.

Frogsonglue · 07/06/2021 20:23

Ok, that's interesting. I've got very little will power when it comes to sweet things, especially when I'm tired. I can't find anything about caffeine - can I still drink tea? (Please say I can still drink tea!!)

Yes but you might need to keep an eye on your milk intake.

If you want a great, straightforward plan to follow I’d suggest the Low carb bootcamp. It’s easy to follow and loads of great information and resources. It’s in the bootcamp section. There is a current one running but I think they’re in their last couple of weeks now, however I suggest you find the week 1 thread (should be an April or May start) and read from the beginning as that way you’ll understand all about how to do it and get lots of tips.

Ninkanink · 07/06/2021 20:34

Your energy levels will go right up after the first week or so.

Frogsonglue · 07/06/2021 20:47

Thank you so much Ninkanink. Is the low carb boot camp on here?

How is your iron?

If i don’t keep my iron up i get recurrent thrush.

Simple multivit won’t do any harm anyway.

Frogsonglue · 07/06/2021 20:54

Good question, I don't know. I ran out of mulitvits a couple of months ago and never replaced them, I will get some tomorrow.

If you look here,

Week 9 (Current bootcamp)

You’ll see that someone else has already joined up this week, so you could always pop in too if you like! @BIWI (who runs it) and the rest of the group will be very welcoming, and you will likely find it a lot easier if you have support and help and advice. Plus they're just great people and there is usually lots of chat and camaraderie too!

Frogsonglue · 08/06/2021 15:23

Thank you - I'm not sure that's the right group for me as I don't actually want to lose weight! But I am reading the discussion with interest.

No worries! You don’t need to do it to lose weight though. If you eat bigger portions that will solve that issue.

kittykat818 · 07/07/2022 11:45

@Frogsonglue Did you do the diet, did it work? I am in the same position and keep getting thrush with no real explanation!
