Thinking about giving up drink for November - any takers for a support group?

This might be a good month for cutting out drink - before Christmas and all that. I thought I might give it a try, but I might have to temper it with one night a week when I can (just if people come over or we go out). Is any one up for a cleanse before the Christmas binge!!!!!

I'm up for it and dh too. We discussed this last night.
But what do we do for those nights out or wekkend with old friends? We have a few of those in the pipeline

jabberwocky · 01/11/2004 14:14

I'm in! Just overdid it at a Halloween party over the weekend and was thinking it might be time for a detox.

beachyhead · 01/11/2004 14:28

well I think for friends coming over and special things, I think you might need to have exemptions - I'm just trying to give up the mindless pouring of wine while watching cronk on telly, then waking up with a headache and in a bad mood type of drinking......

So tonight we start - and reports in tomorrow....

Any more takers??

I'm hoping for about 4 lbs off and sparkling skin!!!!

I did 3 weeks in October, felt much better especially in the mornings . I'm aiming at drinking just on nights out now between now and Christmas.

No wine is allowed in the house otherwise I'm scuppered!

Ameriscot2004 · 01/11/2004 15:44

I gave up for Lent, and managed it fine. But I haven't had much will power since.

Too late for me for November - took the kids out to lunch and succumbed...

beachyhead · 01/11/2004 16:17

kids, lunch, booze, WOW - cool day for a Monday!!!!!

well I made it through last night with dh quaffing away on his red wine.... so only another 29 days to go!!!! I've just had a croissant and a coffee so I'm a bit stuffed on the other things. I'll try and start tomorrow on no wheat.....

How many others are there joining (now we've made the home page!) and what are you detoxing from???

We've got Beachy, Beetroot, Mrs D, Jabberwocky and Lucky mum on the no booze trail (at your discretion with guests but no bingeing!) and various other banned substances for Beetroot and I'll try no wheat.

Beachy, will start Today!

albert · 02/11/2004 11:08

Count me in although I can't promise that I'll manage for very long. Living in Italy has the advantage of stupidly cheap and yummy wine! Didn't see this thread until just now so must point out that I failed yesterday (just to set the record straight) but I will try very hard today I promise!

Kibby · 02/11/2004 11:26

I'm in - no alcohol, can it just be mid-week, can't atnd the thought of now ine on a Friday and Saturday night, no wheat and no sugar ie sweets and a good half hour walk/run every day

feezy · 02/11/2004 11:42

I'm in for no alcohol - after suffering hangover where you can't stand up striaght until afternoon on sunday.
Also no choccy , white bread , cakes etc etc

Anteater · 02/11/2004 11:50

agree should add chocolate, but how about progressive sit ups, ie start with 10 twice a day and add 5 each day...(160 twice a day by Dec)

albert · 02/11/2004 12:02

There's no way I could give up wine and chocolate, just can't be done IMO, (and I've already eaten 1 bar today ) I'll join you on the situps though, think I need too!!

Beety, you are queen of detox. I will add no chocolate and 1/2 hour brisk walk every day (or cycle ride). Looks like no bus ride from London Bridge to office during November. I reserve the right in inclement weather!!!. To all those midweek no alky's, I think you can designate 1 or 2 nights, but NO BINGEING!!!!! ie. not 14 units in two nights!

Never, we've only been doing it for 3 days... anyway another night without a drink - sounds completely sad, but quite an achievement... and we were in flatpack hell last night putting up a spare room bed with guest bed under from 10.30pm to 11.30pm.

And walked to London Bridge last night, through the City at 8.00pm, so that got the adrenalin going!!! Quite deserted at night!!!

No chocolate, but I think wheat and caffeine might have to stay....

Can't find the scales as they are in storage, luckily!
