Thinking about giving up drink for November - any takers for a support group?

This might be a good month for cutting out drink - before Christmas and all that. I thought I might give it a try, but I might have to temper it with one night a week when I can (just if people come over or we go out). Is any one up for a cleanse before the Christmas binge!!!!!

Have gone 36 hours with no alcohol, did my situps last night and walked to work today-30 mins (not that I have any choice there) Feeling quite saintly really.

I've just put some spaghetti bolognese from M&S in the microwave - so I'm not sure how I can resist at the moment. What do you have for breakfast if you don't have coffee and a croissant (I'm not sure I want the answer to this!!!!!)

First night without alcohol for ages, felt loads better this morning, took nag out for a ride after dropping kids off and situps! Whole packet of luxury choc biscuits for lunch, do they count?

beachyhead · 03/11/2004 15:15

Only if my Honey Roast Ham crisps don't (they are my pudding)

I'm not sure I can do water and yog in the morning I'm just happy that there isn't as much white wine sloshing around in there as per normal......

I'll do the walking, the no-chocolate and the no booze and I'll think about the rest!!!!!

count me in on the no alcohol but the no wheat/caffeine thing will result in my killing dh so will say no to that. I did ok on the 1st but did have 2 glasses of wine yesterday - BUT they were on a plane so it doesn't really count...???

albert · 04/11/2004 09:14

Wayhey, no alcohol again last night, DH was stunned when I turned down the offer! But have been invited to a party at the weekend so I know that's going to blow it, maybe I can just keep this up during the week, is that OK? Also I'm down to 1 cup of tea a day (don't drink coffee so that's no problem) and I'm sitting in my office now drinking water, obviously people will think I'm ill as there's no chocolate on the desk either! After the long walk to work I now have to walk up to the 4th floor as the elevator has stopped working after the horrendous flooding we had at the weekend. God, I'm going to feel like a teenager again if I keep this up!!

Anteater · 04/11/2004 13:49

All going to plan here although I may be walking the 8 miles to my office and back if I pick up any more points...

No chance - too many nights out and too many nights on MN (need a glass of something chilled for that!).

Starting my new fitness regime now that ds3 is 10 weeks old. Getting up to go to the gym tomorrow for 7am for a swim so I can be back for 8am for dh leaving for work!!

Am I mad - probably, but I did it 5 times a week inbetween having ds2 and ds3 and I used to feel quite smug having done my exercise by 8am!

There are better ways to exercise in the morning but quite out of the questions with 3 early rising ds's!!

albert · 09/11/2004 11:45

Though I'd report on my hugely succesful first week. No alcohol whatsoever and only minimal chocolate and guess what, I lost 1.3kgs!!! It's a miracle but unfortunately I don't think I can keep it up much longer. What about the rest of you?

fairyfly · 09/11/2004 12:02

Ok can i join you, had a drink on friday and don't feel like one at the moment so might aswell declare i'm stopping for a while

Sonnet · 09/11/2004 12:19

Please can I join the "no alcohol in nOvember" - I can totally relate to Beachyheads comment "I'm just trying to give up the mindless pouring of wine while watching cronk on telly, then waking up with a headache and in a bad mood type of drinking...... " - That is ME.....

Will stock up on fizzy water and lemons at lunchtime!

jabberwocky · 09/11/2004 12:47

Oh, well, had 3 glasses last night. I'm going to blame it on the election. Will try to gear up for an alcohol-free rest of the week.

luckymum · 09/11/2004 13:57

I had four on Saturday (glasses that is) - although it was 'homebrew' so it was a bit stronger than usual .

Anteater · 09/11/2004 21:31

Spent the weekend with flu and sore throat, probably induced by lack of alcohol (or alcoholiday?), so no problems here.
Will resume situps again tommorow...

lavender2 · 09/11/2004 21:38

I'm in too....a bottle of wine nearly every night plays havoc with these threads...first night without..feel good too.

albert · 18/11/2004 08:54

Just completed week 2 with no alcohol and can report feeling much more energetic and not knackered all the time. Didn't experience the mega weight loss of last week but didn't put any on either despite pigging out on sweet things (pms) DH is now convinced I'm ill! Beachy, you are very quiet here, don't tell me you've fallen off the wagon?!

Anteater · 18/11/2004 21:28

So far so good. Not sure another 2 weeks possible tho... May be last the post

anteater · 01/12/2004 01:28

Well im home and DRY, got a bit lonely for the last 2 weeks, but I feel like a NEW man... and a large VAT! Lightweights
