I've suffered from chronic constipation for as long as I can remember. Even as a child. Laxido does help if I take everyday but I really like some more natural ideas...I find it really embarrassing to talk about but I know I can always ask MN 😌

sparklesandmoresparkles · 05/04/2021 12:25

YouWereGr8InLittleMenstruators · 05/04/2021 12:31

A handful of dried apricots and a pint of water.

Sexnotgender · 05/04/2021 12:32

All bran, lentil soup and fresh orange juice help me. Plus plenty of water.

FinallyFluid · 05/04/2021 12:39

Homemade popcorn.

Prune juice

Al dente green veg.

I had an M&S vegggie moussaka the other day, that was ummm effective.

I have had cancer treatment twice in five years, (different primaries, you couldn't make it up Confused I am unfortunately well versed in the subject.

Squats. Seriously. I read this on Mumsnet and it's an absolute game changer for me. Long walks help. Also porridge

FinallyFluid · 05/04/2021 12:44

Copella cloudy apple juice mixed with prune juice, now that works.

DareIask · 05/04/2021 12:46

All Bran is the mover of movers

Oranges, ripe pears and peaches.

Whereland · 05/04/2021 13:46

Chia seeds are amazing. A spoon in porridge is great

Newestname001 · 05/04/2021 14:55

Whole soft prunes as a snack (3 is a portion and a good source of fibre) on their own, or cut up into cereal (someone mentioned porridge - make sure it's the "whole rolled oats" rather than the "easy/quick microwave" type) or psyllium husks in fruit juice followed up by a large glass of water - or two. Also agree with chai seeds - I add those to my porridge, together with milled linseeds/hemp seeds.. All very easily available in supermarkets, health food shops, online, etc. 🌹

PassMeTheWotsits · 05/04/2021 14:57

Dried apricots are best for me

oreosoreosoreos · 05/04/2021 14:57

Probiotics! Definitely help to keep me regular!

vauxhalldiva · 05/04/2021 16:03

Clockwise tummy massage
Magnesium tablets
Lots of water

BurbageBrook · 05/04/2021 16:09

A routine helps. Get up at the same time each morning. Also coffee can help. Lots of fibre and water of course but presumably you’re already doing that.

ISaidDontLickTheBin · 05/04/2021 16:09

Dried figs/prunes/apricots/pears

All bran (as well as the dried fruit, not instead)

.

FeistySheep · 05/04/2021 16:12

Can we assume you already eat a diet very high in fibre, with a good amount of fat (crucial) and lots of water? And you do lots of exercise such as walking, running, cycling etc?
If yes, do you have foods which trigger your digestion? Peanut butter does it for me...

ceilingsand · 05/04/2021 16:15

All bran works as long as you have plenty of fluids. Porridge. Plenty of fruit and veg in your diet. But with all that extra fibre, enough to drink is critical.

Bee2543 · 05/04/2021 16:27

I drink a lot although mainly tea....I think once I had a whole tin of prunes and nothing?!

Syrup of figs

Shosha1 · 05/04/2021 18:04

Dried banana's ( as I found out to my cost when I gave some to DS1 when he was a toddler)

Corkina · 05/04/2021 21:33

Hi there, I have recently started using Psyllium Husk. Two teaspoons in a glass of water, has helped me no end. Game changer for me. But the key is to drink lots of water, a bit like using flaxseed, always to be supported with plenty of water.
It has made it so much easier for me to go to the toilet. It absorbs water into your poo and makes it larger and spongier, and everything just flows better.
Look it up and see what you think. You need to stir it in fast to the water and drink immediately, as it gets quite thick.

Inclinedtochatter · 05/04/2021 21:35

Magnesium Citrate. I take two with my evening meal and not only does it help me sleep it keeps me regular too!

Tambourina · 05/04/2021 23:32

Too much fibre can actually block you up.

My suggestions are:

  • exercise
  • drink a lot a water (in addition to whatever else you're drinking)
  • avoid sugar/white flour products as much as you can.

Good luck!
