Mortified - TMI Warning

Not really an AIBU but posting here for traffic - name changed because, well, this is weird and embarrassing and it isn't the first time it's happened and I want to know if it's ever happened to any of you:

Last night I had a really bad, very vivid, dream about my best friend who's recently had a baby, whereby she collapsed and was taken to hospital leaving me to look after her newborn - cue me wandering around her "house" looking for a loo as I needed to pee....

You can guess what's coming can't you; I dreamt I'd found a loo and proceeded to relieve myself, then woke up realising I'd ACTUALLY PEE'D Blush jumped up to dash to the "real life" loo but it was too late and all the pee came gushing out *TMI WARNING** as it had collected 'inside' me Blush

Spent the next 20 minutes cleaning myself up and changing my pj's and desperately hoping DH and DD wouldn't come into the bathroom wondering what the hell was going on....

As I said, this isn't the first time this has happened, and I've tried to mitigate it by not drinking much before bed, but when you're deep asleep, and dreaming of being on the toilet, I'm not sure there's much you can do really

Please tell me I'm not the only one this has happened to!

It's happened to me when I was an older child )I'm guessing upper end of primary school. Dreamt I was on a loo and woke up peeing my bed😩 Happily it hasn't happened to me in adulthood though!

@Janaih

Oh for heavens sake, you all know OP means vulva!
I think I do! Confused I know what i mean, i'm just not explaining myself very well (because I don't want to be too graphic

It probably gets caught in the folds of the labia and then gets released when you move. I understand what you mean

TibetanTerrier · 23/12/2020 14:08

@BadDreams2020
*I dream I'm peeing then I wake up and shoot out of bed and it all just gushes out"

It's gushing out from your bladder, not your vagina! Your brain has been trying to wake you up to tell you that you need to go, hence the dreams, but it's taken too long and when you leap up your bladder can't hold it any longer so it lets go. It's what happens all the time if person is incontinent. And incontinence can be caused by being overweight, because it causes pressure on the bladder.

DameCelia · 23/12/2020 14:10

Hi @BadDreams2020 is it possible that the urine is collecting in the 'folds' around your vulva and when you get up it is actually pouring out if there, rather than your vagina?
Oh and to the pp who asked about vaginas filling up in the bath or the sea, yes, for some women that sometimes happens.

I agree, that sounds far more likely to be what's happening.

I think that's probably what's happening yes, and not as PP have said about me just emptying my bladder, as I have really strong pelvic floor muscles and would be able to stop it coming out as soon as I woke up

The gushing isn't coming from my urethra, but further down

Blimey op, if this is you trying not to be too graphic i dread to think what sort of detail you normally go into

MingeOnFire · 23/12/2020 17:55

Just to say I do sometimes get water trapped inside me after swimming or having a bath which will come out with a little gush.

And I understood what you meant OP it's not that hard to imagine how it could happen.

I sometimes dream of needing a wee and wake up bursting but so far I've always woken up in time

sadie9 · 23/12/2020 18:25

If you had a back ache could it be an undetected kidney infection that contributed to this?

BrandonBliss · 23/12/2020 18:32

I feel your pain OP! This has happened to me several times over the years, even before I gave birth. Very embarrassing, no obvious reason, just the dream of looking for a loo and then waking up soaked Blush

skippetyskoo · 23/12/2020 18:44

Just to say do you have ongoing back issues? Please read up on cauda equina syndrome as this is a medical emergency.

BadDreams2020 · 24/12/2020 10:08

@MadameButterface I am an open book and will usually tell everyone all the gory details (I have no shame)

@MingeOnFire thank you for understanding Smile

@sadie9 I'd say the pain is more in my hips, I've always had dodgy hips but it's worse now I'm older/heavier Sad

@BrandonBliss I'm sorry this has happened to you too, but I'm kinda glad I'm not the only one! Solidarity Sister Grin

@skippetyskoo thanks, I'll have a google of that

Merry Christmas Eve everyone!!
