Skin tag - any advice?

Has anyone successfully removed a skin tag at home (eg by tying a bit of dental floss around it)? Does it hurt much? How long does it take to fall off?

Yes, with a bit of cotton. It pinches a bit just for a second, as you have to tie it really tight to cut off the blood supply but it doesn't hurt. Takes about a week to shrivel up then fall off.

Or you can cut them off with nail clippers but I've never been brave enough to do that.

Use neat tea tree oil. Apply it every night until the tag drops off. I’ve done it a lot.

I had one on my nipple, I froze it off with a wart freezing kit. I did however put a disk of thin cardboard over it so I could get a decent freeze without freezing any other parts of my nipple.

It fell off after 2/3 days.

ShirleyPhallus · 13/11/2020 18:55

Yes! I used a kit from Amazon, it was so easy and totally painless

justanotherneighinparadise · 13/11/2020 18:56

I have a plasma pen that burns the giblets off beautifully.

bravotango · 13/11/2020 19:06

Yes, I used cotton and it took about a week. It was a big one though!

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 13/11/2020 20:19

Fab, thank you - good to know it's not too painful

Yes - used Tagband from Amazon. Totally painless and dropped off in a few days.

nolovelost · 14/11/2020 10:26

Just use cotton tied tightly. Takes a few days.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 10/12/2020 22:47

Update: still waiting for the tenacious little fucker to fall off. It's black, but hanging on. Repulsive and very minorly a bit sore.

Would the gp do it at all, I’ve got one that’s hard for me to reach and don’t have anyone to tie or apply anything but the itching is driving me up the wall

OllyBJolly · 13/12/2020 18:42

I've cut some with nail scissors/clippers and also used a lotion from Amazon. I haven't been able to try the cotton trick - usually due to location and I'm too ham fisted.

@justanotherneighinparadise Hi, does that hurt, can you share the link to the pen or it's name? I'm not brave enough to cut it or to risk using cotton and it not doing anything then being stuck on

eurochick · 13/12/2020 19:17

I do small ones with sharp tweezers. Take a deep breath and pinch.

Wallywobbles · 13/12/2020 20:20

I cut mine off with nail clippers.

Thighdentitycrisis · 13/12/2020 20:26

I tried Tea tree oil on cotton wool taped on for a week and it got rid of it. Also made surrounding skin very sore so I don’t recommend

Shadow1986 · 13/12/2020 20:28

I used cotton and i don’t think it really went according to plan, it really swelled up and after no signs of falling off I ended using the frozen kit for warts and verrucas - worked perfectly

TooManyDogsandChildren · 13/12/2020 20:31

OP your skin tag sounds like a perfect candidate for the nail clippers. Does not hurt and over with in a second.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 13/12/2020 20:39

Don’t they bleed like fuckery?

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 14/12/2020 07:56

I gave it a go and you were right. It was tough to overcome the squeamish factor - as I pulled it off, there was a little inner thread remaining and I had to pull that off separately. It wasn't painful, though - just 🤮

Yes, I watches one of my GP colleagues do one the other day. Kind of cut and burned it. Really quick and easy.
dementedma · 14/12/2020 09:04

Mine is on my face so dont want to wander about with it black and horrible with thread on it. Its too fat to get in the nail clippers! Might try tea tree oil

ladymuck111 · 14/12/2020 09:09

I have a massive red one on my stomach. I hate it. It became infected earlier this year and my gp said it wouldn't be removed on the nhs 🙁. He said to tie cotton around it but I haven't done it because I'm scared.
