to try microdosing?

I have been dealing with constant migraines for 20 + years now. I have tried so many preventatives over the decades and none work well or for long. I've done various clinical trials and non licensed medications / treatments and I still spend 20 or more days a month dealing with migraines. I do get some relief with pain killers, naproxen and co-codamol and i use sumatriptan but these drugs can't be used all the time so the majority of the time I just have to suffer them.

I am done with it, I haven't had a life due to migraine, I have no job, no children, very few friends, I've hardly travelled and I'm too ill most of the time for a rewarding hobby. If i do get a day where I am not in pain all I can do is try to catch up on all the things that must be done before I'm taken out by another migraine.

I have heard a lot of good things about microdosing for migraine and I want to try it. I have no idea how and i know its not legal but I don't care. I should be able to try if it might help me live with less pain and have a more normal life. I would go as far to say that I don't believe any judge or jury would convict me for doing it.

I have no interest in being high or tripping, I just want a normal life!

Its sounds a bit like homeopathy where they treat people with minute amounts of toxins (i think!), in fact the lower the dose, the more potent the effect. Have you consulted anyone? Maybe they know about it. What about chinese herbal medicine?

It sounds horrific and i don't blame you for trying anything.

My friend used to grow his own weed, purely for the purpose of pain relief as he had a condition that caused him tremendous pain, tramadol meant he couldn't work but he smoked weed to help with the pain. Dont think cbd would do much though.

I really hope it works for you.

flaviaritt · 27/10/2020 16:33

But are they legal or illegal?

FeedTheVoodooLilyMumsnet · 27/10/2020 16:34

Hi folks,

We're just moving this over to our general health topic (there's a disclaimer there, and we think that's really important).

OP - as always, we do advise seeking real-life advice through a registered GP. Flowers

Leaannb · 27/10/2020 16:34
@Leaannb easy for you to say if botox helps you, what about the people it doesn't help, what are we supposed to do? Microdosing means you just take a tiny amount, much lower than they levels you would experiance a trip on.
I have no idea why you are being so hostile to me. Microdosing is not safe outside of a clinical setting. Not to mention that its highly illegal and a class A. You could literally lose everything. Nothing worked for me until I tried Botox. You hadn't said if you had tried Botox at that time. So why the hostility? Nasty attitude for someone trying to help you

OP here is another site my friend has recommended.

I really hope you can find a way to manage your migraines. Flowers

Leaannb · 27/10/2020 16:37

@flaviaritt

But are they legal or illegal?
They are class A drug. Meaning girlfriend can go to prison for a very long time and lose everything.
librarydiscard · 27/10/2020 16:37

@flaviaritt they are illegal but if you don't have chronic 20 + days of migraine a month for 20 + years then your in no position to judge me and I wouldn't care what you thought anyway. I don't think anyone with half a brain would either. Fags and Alcohol both legal and widely consumed are both far, far more dangerous and toxic than the amounts of psychoactive substance I am talking about taking.

OP posts:
librarydiscard · 27/10/2020 16:38

@Leaannb I doubt very much a chronic pain sufferer would go to prison for taking tiny amounts of it for personal use.

Ylfa · 27/10/2020 16:38

Started out of curiosity and I found it hugely helpful - creative, chatty and a sort of inoculation against stress, like just better able to cope with it and a sense of emotional clarity. Best of all after years of disordered eating I’ve lost my powers of restriction and bingeing. I just can’t misuse food anymore. I’m interested in eating things that would have repulsed me before so I’ve started cooking (albeit through HelloFresh) and eating a much more varied diet than ever.

One negative is slightly less able to hold on to my temper, nothing dreadful but I’m having a tiny break anyway. I know a lot of people who do it:

Artist, ecologist, university student, someone who designs important new hospital buildings, tree surgeon

Ylfa · 27/10/2020 16:39

I get my pajaritos from trufflemagic! But now I know someone who grows the Mexican ones.

librarydiscard · 27/10/2020 16:40

@Leaannb I don't mean to be rude, sorry for that but I'm at the end of my rope here and I don't care if its illegal, I doubt it would be dangerous. I'd be using less than a gram once every three days at most.

OP posts:
Mytimetokillandmaim · 27/10/2020 16:41

"Girlfriend" really wont go to prison for a long time for a home grown kit of mushrooms for personal use. Sorry to disappoint.
I'm aware its illegal but they just dont throw away the key for tiny personal use. Not generally anyway. Unless you're known the the drug unit and police.

afrikat · 27/10/2020 16:41

OP have you tried the new CGRP drugs like Aimovig? They aren't easy to get hold of, think it depends where you are but might.be worth pushing for? I am currently getting botox (I have chronic intractable migraine) which I'm not finding helpful and that's going to be the next thing I try if I can find someone who can prescribe it

flaviaritt · 27/10/2020 16:41

I didn’t judge you. I asked whether they are legal or illegal because I didn’t fully understand the implications of your question. How rude you are.

Kittykat93 · 27/10/2020 16:41

Doubt op would go to prison for a very long time for having a tiny amount of drugs for her possession but OK..

Ylfa · 27/10/2020 16:42

They’re not illegal everywhere, obviously, there are quite a lot of new products on the way in North America inc Canada using patented methods of psilocybin extraction

flaviaritt · 27/10/2020 16:42

They are class A drug.

But assuming this is the case, YABU. They are illegal for a reason.

librarydiscard · 27/10/2020 16:42

@afrikat, Yes I was on the trial for the CGRP treatment then got the actual drugs after in the open part of the trial. No improvement at all.

OP posts:
Mytimetokillandmaim · 27/10/2020 16:44

But now I know someone who grows the Mexican ones I have been interested in trying to grow these for a while!. I grow a few small autoflowering plants every summer but havnt tried shrooms yet.

Ylfa · 27/10/2020 16:44

I guess there are reasons why homosexuality is still illegal in some parts of the world too but ?

librarydiscard · 27/10/2020 16:45

@Ylfa thank you for your replies and the info, do you order to the UK ok from that site? I will probably try this as see how it goes!

OP posts:
flaviaritt · 27/10/2020 16:46

Well, not good ones, no. But there are good reasons why unlicensed and unregulated drugs are illegal, and why the production of said drugs often causes so much harm.

afrikat · 27/10/2020 16:48

Ah that's a shame I'm really sorry. Migraine is so debilitating, if you can get hold of whatever you need safely then I'd give it a go

Shaniac · 27/10/2020 16:49

But assuming this is the case, YABU. They are illegal for a reason.

Nope. Theres no real reason magic mushrooms are illegal they are the safest of all drugs next to weed. Not every law makes sense or is reasonable.

The op sounds at the end of their tether and seems to have exhausted all other options so probably feels pissed off being told about common stuff already tried.

librarydiscard · 27/10/2020 16:53

I am really sorry if I offended anyone or was rude. That wasn't my intention at all. I suppose it being technically illegal seems like a petty reason not to do something that might save my life!
