Do you take vitamin D? What dosage, and are the Wilko or supermarket brands good enough?

OP posts:
whatsbinhappnin · 25/10/2020 16:48

Yes, 400units a day

Wilko or supermarket brands are no different to any others

Yddraigoldragon · 25/10/2020 16:56

Yes, 10,000 units a day of D3 plus K2 and magnesium. Difficult to get effective strength in supermarkets, I go to amazon.

But in these strange times, even a small amount of D3 might help.

Takingabreakagain · 25/10/2020 16:59

Yes this one from Amazon it's one drop per day so the bottle lasts ages.

I use the BetterYou oral spray - it comes in different strengths. I currently take 1000iu as maintenance; used to take the 3000iu when I was deficient - it raised my levels phenomenally.

purplecorkheart · 25/10/2020 18:00

Centrum advance and it is 100% EU NRV

purplecorkheart · 25/10/2020 18:05

Sorry meant to add I have no idea what that means.

kowari · 25/10/2020 18:36

@Takingabreakagain The one you linked is more than I was looking to pay, but you do get a lot, do you know how long the expiry date is likely to be? It's just for the two of us.

OP posts:
monkeytennis97 · 25/10/2020 18:39

4000iu a day from October to March, 2000iu a day from April-September and K2 as well.

kowari · 25/10/2020 19:54

I found the Amazon one but with K2 as well for less money than just the D3, so I've bought that. The K2 is meant to help with bone density isn't it?

Thanks for the replies, it's our fourth winter here so thought we should start taking a supplement.

dementedpixie · 25/10/2020 19:58

Maximum recommended is 100ug or 4000IU so don't take more without GP advice
Amount recommended for most people is 10ug or 400IU

I take 25ug or 1000IU (mini tablets from amazon) and the kids take a 10ug/400IU spray from amazon too

Takingabreakagain · 25/10/2020 19:58

Sorry only just seen you asked about the date. @kowari
I'm not sure what the best before date was as I've thrown away the box. There was at least a year on the date but I think it was more like 18mths. I ordered mine last December and I'm just halfway down (just me using it) so I'm sure you two would get through one bottle per year.

dementedpixie · 25/10/2020 20:00

Your link didn't work for me @Takingabreakagain. Which one do you take?

Takingabreakagain · 25/10/2020 20:05

@dementedpixie it's this one. The brand is nutravita

Vitamin D
dementedpixie · 25/10/2020 20:08

I take these. 1 year supply

Vitamin D
Pumpkinpied · 25/10/2020 20:45

50,000iu prescription only because I have absorption issues.

Comefromaway · 25/10/2020 20:47

I take 2000 iu per day along with K2

12in21 · 25/10/2020 20:50

I take 4000 IU every other day.

kissmelittleass · 25/10/2020 22:06

I take Vitabiotics vitamin D3 1000 IU every day all year round for nearly two years as my levels were low at 25!
I don't take K2 although I have read about it on here but didn't see any in my local health shop. Do you all take K2? Is it necessary? Any recommendations

kowari · 26/10/2020 06:10

I got this one, it was cheaper with K2 than without.www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08BG2Y4MK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_btf_t1_uEMLFbFK2WZ16?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

DianaT1969 · 26/10/2020 06:47

I take K2. It's in my D3 spray. By the way, for those who found themselves inexplicably low in Vit D, or struggle to get their level up, I read the other day that insulin resistance blocks vitamin D absorption. So you could be taking daily vitamin D supplements, but it isn't all being absorbed. Worth looking into, particularly if you struggle to lose weight.

kissmelittleass · 26/10/2020 20:24

@kowari thanks for link 👍 great price too do you find they help you?

kowari · 26/10/2020 20:33

@kissmelittleass
I haven't tried them yet, just ordered them yesterday!

OP posts:
kissmelittleass · 26/10/2020 21:02

@kowari ah ok! If you find an improvement after taking them let us know I think I'll order them too but I'm on medication for an under active thyroid so will have a google to see if k2 is ok for me to take

notapizzaeater · 26/10/2020 21:20

There's a really good group on Facebook with advice. I take 10000 plus vit K, boron, magnesium

kowari · 27/10/2020 05:54
