Hello

This is my first time posting on here and I am at my wits end. I have always suffered with health anxiety but right now I don’t know what to do with myself.

I have always twitched in my muscles over the years and occasionally worried, but then got on with it. Then back in April this year I lost the plot one day when my tongue started twitching on the tip. I was sure I had mnd after googling. I rushed to the doctor who wasn’t concerned and eventually I calmed down a little. More recently though I have been twitching all over. It’s the same as an eye twitch but it moves from my thighs, arm, shoulder, knees etc and I am back in the hole, terrified that I have a terrible illness. I saw my doctor again who reassured me that she felt there was nothing wrong apart from anxiety. She did a quick test of my reflexes, and got me doing some basic strength tests all of which were normal. She didn’t feel the need to refer me.
The other thing I have is that sometimes I go to swallow and for a split second can’t plus I have a weird tight feeling in my throat so I am linking this also to mnd.
When I had twitching a few years ago I got over it because I was much younger and know that mnd in younger people is very rare. But now I am 51 so haven’t got that excuse now.

I am sat here at work crying with fear. I just want to believe that my doc is correct and that it’s all anxiety and nothing more. I even went on a mnd board where they reassured me that the twitching was highly unlikely to be mnd.
Has anyone else experienced twitching like this?
Thanks for listening.
X

That burning sensation is exactly what I experienced when I was very anxious. I even had it in my eyes🤨

@Flatcatt well that's gone today but the brain fog has been awful! Twitching seems less but ramps up at night. Feel wobbly too like my coordination is off but I'm wondering now if my body is doing this because of how much I've read and I'm anticipating the next possible symptom. How are you today? X

Hello everyone! So a few weeks ago my face felt abit tight and my top lip started to twitch. It went away, and now back again. My cheek feels like its twitching and top lip. I am 26 and nearly 6 months pregnant. I am worrying my self sick. I keep thinking its ms or something. The drs will just say oo your pregnant. Can anxiety symptoms last for months :(

This happened to me just over a year ago, about 4 months after the birth of my second DD.

The anxiety was debilitating. I ‘tested’ my body daily, coordination tests, balance tests, reflex tests.
At times I was downright convinced I had MND with the twitches and what I thought was atrophy in my right hand. I visited my GP who said with almost certainty that physically, there was nothing wrong with me. He did however point out that I’d visited the GP more times in the 4 Months since giving birth than I had in the 10 years previous to that. He diagnosed PND, I was put on citalopram and referred for CBT. The clouds eventually lifted, I was petrified of taking anti depressants but it wasn’t as big of a deal as I thought it was.

I really hope you managed to get some help OP. My twitches were 100% worse when my anxiety was at its peak. I still twitch from time to time and always have done but during times of stress and upset I definitely notice them more.

@user1488481370 thankyou for your reply!!
I spoke to my GP today and he said in the last 4-5 months i have visited the drs alot. He has told me its all done to anxiety. Ive been having neck ache since September and in my hate im thinking its cancer. And thinking of that and atressing i dont know if its cause these twitches. I said go him I’ll definitely will have to have something after bird if this continues. But when my body has these awful symptoms its hard to ignore xx
